(CNN)—Bishop Fred Caldwell of the Greenwood Acres Full Gospel Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, has a pretty radical idea to diversify the largely black congregation of his church.

This month, Caldwell is going to pay white people to attend his sermons. It’s five bucks for a Sunday service, 10 for a Thursday service. And the idea is already stirring up controversy.

CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien spoke with Bishop Caldwell from Shreveport on Friday morning. Joining him was one of the few white members of the church, Criss Williams

  2. Why is there a need for only white people in the church, this world is not just made up of only whites and blacks. What about the asians, mexicans, irish, arabian, philipino, and other races. If he so wanted his congregation to look like it would in heaven he would ask for every non-african american race to come not just the white people, I think this is an outrage, everyone has started this new trend of commercialize God, making it all about everything but the right thing and thats to give God all the praises. Why are we so concerned about where others give him prasies, just as long they are giving him prasies, anyway that’s not what God is about and I would expect a BISHOP to know that instead of paying a certain race, if your going to do this THING BISHOP, please at least do IT right. I really don’t see any GOD in this situation but I’m not here to pass judgement on anyone that’s GOD’S job. I can only give my opion and I’m not saying it’s right or wrong I just STRONGLY disagree with paying arangement, I thought salvation was free and given freely not charged. I thought the Bible said to compel other to come to give God praise, not bribe. If he really wanted to fellowship among whites why not visit those churches why do they have to come to him and why his church, if he was that concern he should hold an “Let’s Get Together Picnic”. Why dont he go out and be the BLACK face in a white filled congregation. What’s more important a sheep going from one flock to another or that one lost sheep that finally finds a flock that is nurturing so that he can go out and compel other lost sheep. Oh but, Dear God have we forgotten about all of the lost souls that are out in the world that need to be saved, those that have heard this so called campaign have misdirected them not to come toward Christ, but run away from it, if their a certain color that is. Gee!!!! Thanks BISHOP!!!!!!
