China continues house church crackdown

Three Christians arrested at a house-church meeting in China have been released by authorities, but another three remain in custody.
The arrests July 13 during a 4 a.m. police raid in Xiaoshan City were part of a continuing government campaign called “Strike Hard,” aimed at cracking down on unauthorized religious groups.
Xu Wei-Min and two other men were allowed last week to leave a hotel in the city where they had been subject to repeated questioning and “brainwashing,” according to Voice of the Martyrs, a monitor of persecution against Christians worldwide.

All Protestant and Catholic churches in China are required to be under control of the government, and groups that do not register the vast majority are included in the list of “illegal cults.”
A week before the six men were arrested, about 300 Public Security Bureau officers raided an affiliated congregation in Hengpeng village during a Sunday service and demolished the church building, Compass said.
The news service said the congregations belong to the “Little Flock” church network, best known for its founder, Watchman Nee, a popular writer among Christians worldwide. Nee died in a labor camp in 1973.
