Mel Gibson’s ‘The Passion’: Most offensive film ever made
In April 2004, many people will find the accurate depiction of the final half day of Jesus Christ as the “most offensive film ever made.”
Have you heard of the controversy and heated debate swirling around Mel Gibson’s yet to be released film, “The Passion”? Just to be clear, I will summarize: Detractors, supposedly leaders of Jewish groups, as well as Catholics and Protestants, are concerned that this documentation of the final hours of Jesus Christ’s life and His resurrection “will fuel hatred, bigotry and anti-Semitism.” Since this portrayal is arguably one of the most accurate of all movies ever made about any aspect of Christ’s life, we should be asking what these concerned “leaders” are saying about the Gospel of Christ. Are they saying that the Gospels fuel hatred? If they are, they hit the nail right on its head. The Gospels have always fueled hatred against Christians as Jesus Christ very clearly forewarned they would. One would think Jesus’ message and mission of truth, love and mercy would inspire all men to a perpetual state of warm and fuzzy mutual affection. But if you actually read Jesus’ words, He will disabuse you of that notion in an instant.

Dear Mel,
I was very interested to see that you have based your film, The Passion, on the writings of Anne Catherine Emmerich. I wonder if you know that the author of “Meditations on the Tarot” (Valentin Tomberg) also makes use of her visionary work. “Meditations” is listed among the top 100 spiritual books (Christian and non Christian) of the 20th Century. Tomberg is also appreciated by many Catholic “heavy hitters”.
Anyway I’m sure that your film is not anti-Semetic at all. It’s not the truth that hurts, but the shafting away of lies.
God Bless,
Bruce
God does not promote hate therefore, I do not believe that this film should stir up any hatred towards Jewish people because it was God’s will to send his only begotten son to die for our sins. That means, that all humanity is to blame for, not just the forefathers of the Jewish people. People should stop and think before making any violent verbal attacks toward the Jewish community. I think it was a great idea of Mr. Gibson to make this movie because we live in a country where God is being removed from every part of our daily lives being that this country was founded by our Christian forefathers. I think it is time to give God the importance that HE deserves. HE is a true HERO worthy of admiration. God bless America.
God bless Mel Gibson and all involved with the making of this film!!
I can’t understand what all the hullabaloo is about except that, Jesus himself said “we” would be persecuted because of him. That seems to be what is going on. The Gospels were written by Jews, for Jews. So how can they be anti-Semetic?
I’ve seen the trailer. Just the smallest snippet of this film moved me beyond words.
Dear Mel,
I am a student from Dalas Texas and I would like to show all of my suport for your Jesus film. It is about time that someone made a movie worth watching. Ignore all of the discoraging publicity that this is getting; actually you should be proud beacause persecution means that you are doing something right. God works hardest during times of adversity. This is your purpose. Stay strong in Christ.

Dear Mel
Thankyou so much for your commitment to making this film. I’m sure it is as you say, the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that suffuses it.
While thinking about the anti-Semitic accusations swirling around it, I thought you may like to consider making a sequel to this film, this time about the coming of the promised Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost. How impacting would be the most advanced technology of Hollywood employed in showing the Holy Spirit’s dramatic, mind-blowing arrival on that day, the empowering of the praying, hitherto fearful disciples, Peter’s powerful sermon and, most pertinent to the anti-Semitic accusations concerning The Passion, the acceptance of Yeshua as their Messiah by 3,000 probably male Jews–including many priests–plus women and children from all over the Roman Empire. The Passion is almost unfinished without the story of God not only indwelling but empowering all believers who are baptized in the Holy Spirit on Jesus’ return to heaven.
Dear brother,Mel Gibson.
Greetings to you,and your family in the name of Yahshua,The Messiah.Jesus,The Christ.Amen.
As a born-again jewish christian,I am supporting your new film about the resurrection of our saviour Jesus Christ.May God Yahweh bless you.
Always stand for the truth will make you free.
Some Remarks on Accuracy and History Facts
1- How are you so sure Jews are accountable for Jesus , Yehosoua death.
Since Gibbson said he was to the facts and truth, I wonder if any additional documents
besides holy scripts supports this evidence. In my review I was trying to guide
to Jewish Nazarene sects which left us the Dead See scrolls. The scrolls were
written in Hebrew, The event is not mentioned even though both sects mentored
the same philosophy. Moreover that time Aramaic was not spoken only Hebrew Greek and Latin , Aramaic was hardly spoken, else Dead Sea would have been in Aramaic.
2- Sanhedrin, the Sanhedrin was the provider of all Oral laws and the supreme
rabbinic laws of as we have today. Show me history evidence based upon
excavations supporting the argument they were instigators. In fact the Sanhedrin
according to archeological findings was the most tolerant court. I do not know if
you know, but Sanhedrin rabbinic law was against revolt.
3- Indeed, there is some correctness in arguments of destruction, according
to Jewish fate, Temple was destriod for what they call Sinaat Chinam
meaning not obeying the law love your friend as you love yourself said by Rabbi
Akiva. Or in direct translation hate of your own people.
But that is late philosophy; the main philosophy is due to the story of the
spies. Since they spoke bad on the land, except two spies Joshua and Caleb Ben
Yephouneh. There was the prophecy for both destructions. Why since god obeyed
the Israelites top worship and work the land, god wanted the Israelites to obey
the god order to connect soul land and physical world all together. The desert
Israelites generation wanted to worship god exclusively. It is good but less
hard. Why since you do not struggle yourself day by day with the evil
inclination that god had implanted in you. What is this all about why would god
do, since he want to see elevation, in case you made a mistake or sin you have
the option of repentance, remorse Tshoova in Hebrew which is even higher level
of a soul. Since in the desert Israelites refused that option, the were punished
by a prophecy mentioned. All occasions spies stories punishment, first temple
destruction, and second one happened at 9 of the month of Av according to Jewish
tradition. Ill try to find you some more clues on destruction in the Tora.
4- I have one more curiosity why days were modified. If Jesus mentored lord laws
according to Judaism, then if God ordered to rest in Shabbat why it was modified, If God said eat Kosher why it was modified. Jesus did not modify it.
What was the book Jesus was reading, if not the Old Testament one and nothing but the old one?
The answers are straightforward to disconnect the source of Judaism.
What is the root of the word Satan?
And finally here is some nice web for you to look in the Second temple model
during Harrods time and prior destruction. The model was built upon
Josephus-Plavious descriptions, and the Excavations and findings of the Hebrew
University did in the Old-City. The model is in a size of a football yard and
made out of Jerusalem stones. It is updated all times by the Archeology Dept of
the Hebrew-University in Jerusalem. The model is a monument for the son of one
of the Hebrew-University professors that had donated it as a memorial site for
his son that was killed in battle at the war of independence of the state of
Israel in 1948. One more interesting point and pointer is late Prof Ygaal Yadin
(former Lt General IDF Chief of Staff) he was the one that found the dead see
scroll. It is an interesting story more than a movie thriller.

You can see the temple the western wall marked with red arrow. The Antonia fort
is at the Temple complex there. The gates of Hulda are blocked today.
The two wonderful bridges you see there are broken and the arcs remained were
discovered by two archeologist one American one British and they are known as
the Wilson Arc and Robinson Arc.

I have always respected you. I do not believe man’s god, but I do believe in consciousness. I am looking forward to your production.
I have heard all of the controversy over this film and am somewhat taken back by its deep rooted anger. This film will represent the one reason Jesus was sent by God; to suffer and die and rise again so that we all could be forgiven of ANY sins in our lives and be able to walk with God both here on earth and in Heaven when we die. Mr. Gibson, I applaud your strength and the conviction God has brought to you to show the truth.
Christians DO NOT hate Jews. In fact, without them, we would not exist. Also, we know that, in the end, God will make a special push to convert the remaining Jews to Christ.
The controversy over whether or not the Jews killed Jesus is a mute one. They did. The bible tells us they did. What most people don’t know is that the prophets of the Old Testament predicted it would happen. If it didn’t, we would not know salvation. They are not guilty of a crime; instead, we should praise God that He used them in His plan of salvation for all mankind. They are instrumental to my faith and my salvation and for that, I pray thanksgiving everyday.
Sincerely,
Tom Wukawitz
Why are so many people on this site praising/defending a film they’ve not yet seen?
“It ain’t what you say, it’s the way that you say it” – as they say.
Yours undecidedly,
Richard
“Undecided” hi to you Richard,
I would like to share my thoughts with you too. Why would people start attacking the movie even before they see it? You can praise a person for starting a job, but it’s unethical to curse him before he finishes, especially when it comes to art, because you can never know how the output will come out to be.
Please consider revising your statement, and be more logical in your arguments, in case you consider yourself an educated person.
Yours,
Barbarian
“Barbarian” thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.
I should also like to reply to yours:
[My apologies in advance to others, if arguing is not in the spirit of this comments section]
You ask:
‘Why would people start attacking the movie even before they see it?’
- I’m the wrong person to ask this, as I’m not one of those people; hence the ‘Yours undecidedly’
…
‘You can praise a person for starting a job, but its unethical to curse him before he finishes, especially when it comes to art, because you can never know how the output will come out to be.’
- Is it not equally unethical to blindly endorse a third party’s obviously contentious and possibly pernicious course of action?
“The road to hell is paved with good intentions”
Finally:
‘Please consider revising your statement, and be more logical in your arguments, in case you consider yourself an educated person.’
Please practice what you preach Barbarian.
PS (If you read this in time) Happy New Year.
Hi again Richard,
Thanks for the nice email. I should also like to reply to yours:

You said:
Why are so many in this site praising/defending a film they’ve not yet seen?
To answer, you tell me why are so many on other sites attacking/cursing a film they’ve not yet seen?
I liked your logical reply to my message, and in this site we are fans of Mel Gibson, we like to see his works appreciated. But, if you don’t like him, you can just ignore his existance, isnt that easier for all? You don’t have to go to his movies, you don’t have to even watch them on your tv. That’s easier for all.
The only problem in our case is, the movie was attacked before its finishing. Why? Where is the freedom of speech America has for all? Please tell me. It’s a right given to you by the American constitution. I can paste you the whole title if you want. Art is part of your natural pregiven right to express yourself, isn’t it?
Waiting to hear from you, and many thanks for the new years wishes. I hope you enjoyed the same too.
The Barbarian
‘To answer, you tell me why are so many on other sites attacking/cursing a film they’ve not yet seen?’
- Two wrongs don’t make a right.
However; imo Gibson (a conservative Catholic) has a track record of demonizing historic parties (“Braveheart”, “The Patriot”); this alone makes “The Passion” particularly troubling for many.
Btw Mel encourages critical feedback:
‘On-topic comments, complaints, and criticisms are welcome’
There are certain limits on all freedoms – including speech e.g. slander, libel, inciting: racial hatred, murder etc.
Potentially inflammatory propaganda (esp. on a Hollywood scale) is/ought to be, every responsible person’s concern.
“The Passion” may well have been verbally attacked elsewhere, but to my knowledge it hasn’t been censored.

I think a mistake was made on the assumption that this site belonged to Mel, because these OPEN letters were addressed to him.
‘Btw Mel encourages critical feedback:’
Jews killed Jesus so long ago. Should we hate them now? Of course not. So why should a documentary change our opinion. When Schindler’s list came out, did we start hating Germans? No. This history is so important. We learn from it. We learn not to hate others. I’m sure God’s just as excited for this movie to come out. What a stand of faith. thanks Mel.
[satire]Jesus was around so long ago. Should we love him now? Of course not. So why should an emotive dramatization change our opinion. When Schindlers list came out, did Jews reaffirm their hatred for Nazis? No. This history is so important. We learn from it. We learn not to hate others. Forget the Sistine Chapel; Im sure Gods just as excited for THIS movie to come out. What a stand of faith. Thanks Mel.
I also can’t wait for Mad Max 4: (Fury Road) this July![/satire]
Dear Mel,
If you read this I want you to know that I will continue to keep you in my prayers. I beleive that what you are doing is wonderful. You deffinately had a calling and it is wonderful that you listened. May many people forever be touched by your beautiful film. I can not wait to see it myself. The clips of it are BEAUTIFUL! May God bless you and meet your needs.

Dear Mel,
Thank you for standing in the face of a many who oppose and resent the truth of the meaning of Christs death on the cross. In todays society their are many who are still whipping christ with their tongues and deeds.
Satan is on the ropes with this movie, and he will surely use every means and person he can to make sure that the truth does not get out. He will plant doubt in the hearts in those who wish to learn the truth. Thank you for sharing our Catholic faith with the world. You are truly a warrior for Christ.
Thank you,
A Conservative Catholic Brother
Dear Mr. Gibson:
Thank you for this wonderful film. I’ve seen only what’s on the website, and my husband and I are anxious to see the movie. God is truly using you to bring this message to the world – for us to see the reality of how much Jesus truly suffered for our sins – for our salvation. I’ve read about the miracles and the conversions during the filming of the movie – God is working wonders!! Do not worry about those that oppose the movie….there are many, many more of us that thank you for it, and we know that God is watching over you. God bless you and your family always.

Several Clarifications and accuracies questions.
Jesus by the Hebrew name Yehosoua, Joshua was born in Nazareth.
The city of Nazareth is at the north of Israel at the low Galilee.
However there is a debate on that fact.
In Hebrew till today the root of the word Nazareth is Nazir a Monk meaning one that excludes himself out.
grows long hair and warship god. The first monk mentioned in Bible was Samson at the book of Judges.
He had stratified the Biblical Hebrew definition of a Monk.
The second problem is Jesus birthplace.
According to tradition he was born in Beit-Lechm which all know at the South of Judea Mountains, in Biblical times the Judah Tribe territory.
However there is a problem with that argument. The distance and the description between the labors Miriam had and delivery or birth. There is an additional Bet-Lechem at the Galilee called The Galilee Beit-Lechem. It is 20 minutes drive from Nazareth and at those ancient days a couple of hours maximum on a mule or donkey was the time to travel from Nazareth to The Galilee Bet-Lehem.
Translation, The Bible was translated by what so called the translation of the seventy for the seventy scholars did that. The New Testament was written in Hebrew and was translated into Greek and then Latin.
Miriam was described in the original scripts written in Hebrew as a young pretty woman, young woman in Hebrew Alma. The translation was converting it into a virgin.
At the beginning old followers of Jesus were Jewish, it was a sect among many others at that time such as the Isians Prushim Tzdokim living in the Judea desert. The Dead Sea scrolls had reveled some of that culture social life at the city of Komran.
Amazingly Jesus was never mentioned there even though he was a great leader at that time.
The sects Isians Prushim Tzdokim were Nazirim monks by Hebrew definition. Jesus was located and acting mainly in the Galilee but was affected by these sects. He mentored for tolerance love of the others which all were in fact the foundations of Jewish fate. Rabbi Akiva said Vehavta Lereach Kamocha Love Your Friend as You Love Yourself. It was based upon the Jewish laws.
Moreover Komran Dead-Sea scrolls were written in Hebrew, and the full book of Isaiah, Yshaayahoo was found with some new chapters all presented at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
Back to our sects the main motive of these sects was isolation and study for judgment day. In the Dead Sea scrolls they describe the philosophy of that apocalyptic vision as the war between the light and darkness.
These sects were extremely Orthodox Jews by our days.
So the ancient followers of Jesus which was a Jew and mentored Judaism obeying Jewish laws since this was God Command in the covenant moment at the Sinai-Mountain with Moses in front the entire Israelites.
This was the moment when the Hebrews became Israelites and a nation.
Now to the word Messiah the root of the word comes from Hebrew from the word Mishcha or Cream.
See Samuel under Prophets.
The act of announcing a king in the ancient times was by the Hebrew word Meshicha, Creaming a circle on the head of the dedicated king. The Mishcha or Cream was olive oil. The one that had suffered the action of Meshicha, Creaming was called in Hebrew Mashiach or Messiah.
Baptizing, the baptizing is a symbol of purity, in fact in Judaism the more you baptize in the springs of the Galilee the more pure you are. In Judaism Baptizing is the Mikveh, that tradition remained till today. Women are baptizing prior marriage. When converting to Judaism you baptize and Orthodox are baptize. So that tradition was used by Jesus was not new it was part of his life, he is a Jew John the baptize Yohanan-Hmatbil was trying to purify his flock and followers. Nothing new in that, it was and is Jewish Tradition. Moreover excavations reviled Mikves from that time.
As for Jesus death, Josephus Plavious, Yesoff Ben Mathityahu was a military leader from the Galilee living at that time during the big revolt. He had crossed the lines and provided accurate information of sequence of events took place at revolt and destruction time. His details were proven to be correct during excavations done at the old city, and on the Gollan Heights at the city of Gamlla. However his book was preserved and translated into Latin where the story of Jesus was implanted in. The problem with that is that each one lived in different times Jesus from 0-21AC and Josephus Plavious during 40-90AC. In addition a second version of Josephus Plavious notes was preserved in Arabic where there, Jesus is not mentioned at all. That is strange since Jesus is also a Prophet mentioned in the Holly Koran, and in the Mirage of Mohammad according to Islamic Fate they met when Mohammad climbed to the sky from Jerusalem, there he met Jesus Moses and Eliyahu Alyssa.
Christianity was a sect of Judaism and was opened later by removing the ancient Christians restrictions which were the Jewish laws obeyed by Jesus. Shaul-Hatarsi had opened it to many followers.
Therefore it would be against the fate of Christianity to prosecute Jews.
Why then it was, since at the middle ages there were many other interest of power and govern of the Churches and that was a way of regimes and Church to blame the Jews for all the bad happening there. It was manipulation that caused tragically anti-Semitism.
As for the film, at the beginning the script was in Aramaic language, which was not spoken at that time frame in Judea province. Language spoken was Greek Latin and Hebrew.
Second Jews are the sons of Judea tribe the word is a late word, Jews are not Israelites, which are all the tribes.
Priests were Cohen and Levies which all came from the tribe of Levi.
Cohens are the sons of Aaron the Cohen the brother of Moses both from the tribe of Levi.
King David Dynasty was destroyed by the Babylonians due to the revolt they did.
Jews of today are remains of Judea Yehuda tribe Levi tribe and Benyamin tribe Benjamin the tribe of king Saul.
The colony name was the Province of Judea not Israel.
The point here in this whole discussion is to show the inaccuracy of the film facts due to inaccurate information.
Moreover the distance of events and the controversy in facts raise a lot of question marks.
Hence Gibbson Film is a bit inaccurate in a gentle way.
That is kind of concern since it may bring a break of hate.
Both fates live in Harmony today and Pope John Paul was doing a great deal of effort to clean the incorrect facts accusing Jews for Killing Jesus and reminding all he is a Jew.
He followed Jewish laws as a proof he did his Passover Seder and eaten Matzos and all according to Judaism.
Kol Toov.
It is so nice to see and hear good done in this world a movie of truth, billions of dollars to open eyes of non belivers, priceless. We spend billions of dollars on killings and all nagative things (in movies and music), but this is okay, go figure what we adults are spreading. I was in Church one Sunday morning, when a comment was made about Mr. Gibson, He will receive many negative thoughts and it may even destore his life and career, however this will not stop him. I say finally, a person with power and money will change the world for a good reason, we continue to feed alot of negative things in our children’s minds, but people don’t want to change things. Thank you Mr. Gibson for doing what needed to be done for so long. I pray for your family each and every day.
i’ve been very excited about the passion of the christ since first hearing about it. i had alot of respect for mel gibson for standing up for his christian beliefs. until today when i read an interview with him on msn. he seems to think that protestants are going to hell and that only those in “the church” (i’m assuming he means the catholic church) are practicing christianity properly. hell? i’m going to hell? excuse me, but has he not read john 3:16, one of the most well-known verses of the bible? “for God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son. whosoever shall believe in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life”. hmmmmm, i don’t see anything there about “shall believe in Him AND be a catholic”. if anything, i’ve always felt bad for catholics & how far off the path they’ve strayed. they pray to dead people, which i consider so very close to worshipping one other than God. they pray to Mary, “saints”, they worship the Pope and their “church” is little more than a government that hoardes wealth on earth. so, i don’t understand how he can sit and criticize protestants who firmly believe that Jesus is God. i can’t believe he thinks we’re going to hell because we don’t confess our sins to other humans, other sinners, and worship other humans. i’m stunned & shocked & SO disappointed in Mel Gibson.
ah well, i will still see the movie. i still love Jesus & am interested in seeing a movie on His last moments of His dying for our sins. ALL OF US, catholic, protestant, jewish, etc.
get it together mel, and stop trying to judge others – leave that up to God.
I am an aspiring film student at the University of Utah. I have always viewed Mr. Gibson as a modern day Mozart with pure and rich talent. He is a role model on which I base my life and career upon. I share the same faith and views as Mr. Gibson, and God help those who don’t. I am truly excited and thrilled he has taken the story of the crucifixion of Christ and put it into motion. I don’t know another film maker that should have that honor or that would do it justice.
When the weight of the world is on your shoulders and it forces you to your knees, you’re in a perfect position to pray.
Congratulations
Moses
The JEWS didn’t kill Jesus, some Jews at the time were responsible. I think there is a difference. Of course there is a chance this film could aggravate anti-semitism. When it plays in places where Jews are already scapegoated,i.e. Syria, Romania, and others, do you think people will see the love. They will use it as an excuse to murder, just like in France, Spain, England, and other countries where anti-semitic pogroms occured during Easter Weeks in times past. I hope this is printed in its entirety, as a another Passion site deleted my words about Easter pogroms, but allowed other posters to keep phrases like, “When I see Jews being killed, I say “Yes!”, or “I’m sick of the Chosen People controlling everything.”
While this film is in the public eye, this is a good time for churches to repudiate anti-semitism, but I know some in other countries others will use the film to incite violence. Even the Syrian president couldn’t resist blaming Jews a couple years ago, with the Pope standing right beside him. And the Pope let it pass! He didn’t want to get involved.
When I was growing up, when the kids went to parochial school or catechism classes they were all steamed up about Jews, and would write inflamatory graffiti on the desks, i.e. “Jew want a penny?” I lost childhood friends who when they found out I was Jewish, and saw how they said to each other, “Let’s get out of here.” It has only been in the last few years that atmosphere of anti-semitism been discredited. The Catholic Church I attend sometimes has shown me that things have changed. It is about time. The Protestant church I attend is excellent in repudiating anti-semitism.
In short, I love the Christ — it is some of his “followers” that I worry about.
Please think twice when you use blanket statements such as “The Jews killed Christ,” (even the ones who lived in other parts of the Roman empire at the time; or Jews today? I know the first graders used to tell me that I killed Christ.” I thought they were nuts.
“They are only afraid of the truth.”
Afraid of the twisted truth, but
actually the real truth that God loves us all would be refreshing.
“The Jews are against the Passion film”
Well, okay, I’m perhaps not the typical Jew, but I have owned the writings of Anne Catherine Emmerich, and St. Mary Agreda, on whose writings the film is based, in my library years before Mel Gibson began making this film, so please allow for our variety.
Also there is some bizaare rumor going around that Eastern European Jews are not real Jews, or descendents of the Hebrews. Please do not believe it. It is propaganda made up by crackpots.
Thanks.

People talk about “truth” but never fully grasp the “truth” as I am one of them. But Jesus referred to God’s word as “truth” even saying that the angel who became “Satan” did not stand fast in the “truth”. The “truth” of God’s word is that although the people of Jesus day did not actually “kill” him, they certainly, the Jewish religious leaders of Jesus day in particular, propelled the hatred against him. They even encourage an attempt on Jesus life earlier, by trying to stone him in the Temple, and then later tried to hurl him off a cliff. Jesus had said that that generation was indeed wicked and “faithless”. Not all of the Jews condemned Jesus, but it is absolutely crystal clear in the Scriptures that the Sanhedrin, Pharisees and even Sadducees and all who followed them, clearly stood against him even going as far as to use one of his own disciples against him, to deliver him to death. This was not the work of the Romans, as they could not find any fault in Jesus. This was the work of the Devil who certainly used the Jewish religious leaders and their followers to have Jesus put to death charging him first with sedition, then blasphemy, then back to sedition which they knew would get the Romans attention. Jesus himself stated that the blood of that generation would be required for all the prophets prior that were put to death. Again, this was primarily directed to the “faithless Jews” of his day. Pontius Pilate who could not find any wrong in Jesus when he was tried, was warned by his wife, who in turne was warned through a dream not to have any dealings with “that righteous man”. Pilate even pleaded with the Jewish crowd for a lesser sentence for Jesus, but the crowd wanted him impaled and even went as far as to having Rome release a known criminal over Jesus who had done nothing. It would be unfair to say that the Jews killed Jesus and leave it at that, as there were faithful Jews who had listened to Jesus teachings and commands. But it would be the truth to say that the Jewish religious leaders and their associates were certainly held responsible for shedding Jesus blood as they encited the Romans against him. Jesus himself was well aware of that when he stated “father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing,” referring to the Romans being used as “puppets” by the Jewish religious leaders. This is not anti-semitism, but the truth. The rest is man’s doing, the media, people who are not accustomed to reading and researching Scripture and without a doubt, Satan the Devil who the Scriptures say is the “misleading the entire inhabited earth.”
Hello Mel, As I am looking forward to seeing your movie, I believe the above about Protestants was misunderstood regarding an interview on MSN…I will watch your interview tonight with Diane. You seem to be a very truthfully passionate person.
People, the truth of the matter is this…one can not change history, you can’t change anything you ever did, you can’t change anything about your previous dialog (so be careful what you say), you can’t change the truth about what happened, and you can’t change who did what…the only thing anyone can do is improve, repent, and do the right thing.
I am looking to this movie for a visual of the truth so I can see and hear what happenend to my Saviour. Mel, I tend to believe you have done all you can to make it accurate.
When all the senses are working together the impact is much more real….we hear about a wreck involving a child, but to see and hear the details on the news makes us more aware of what happened…All of our senses makes us react more keenly to events. I praise you for your effort of gathering our senses…
I think all should sit back and view it for what it is….an interpretation of what actually happened, created/directed by someone we have come to admire and trust….Mel, do the right thing and it will be the right thing. In other words, follow your heart in what you believed happened in the Bible, and who did what….we are looking for the TRUTH, not a fabrication or a cover-up. Anything but how you REALLY interpret the truth would be insulting! Condescending! and Patronizing to your own intelligence!
“The only things in life you regret are the risks you didn’t take.” The premiere is only once, challenge yourself, do it right and don’t look back. Make it credible to your beliefs.
God bless you Mel, and your staff
Leanne
I can recall the hoohaha when “Last Temptations of Christ” was filmed and the remonstrations against its showing. Certainly Gibson is a talented actor known for
his sorties into violence with the pretext of fighting for
justice and right against barbarous others. Unfortunately
yesterday’s barbarians are today’s righteous bearers of
the cultur. Most people will not be viewing the film to count the anachronisms of the scenario or the inconsistency of Aramaic grammatical construction. GIbson fans will flock to the film as do gawkers at the
showing of the latest trainwreck. Jesus of Nazareth was
killed in a horrific, tragic way. He was a Jew who challenged the status quo. His message [some say] was
communistic and revolutionary. What, pray tell, do the
Gibson girls and boys think would happen if Jesus gave his
message today in Fairfax, VA or Pocantico Hill, NY?

Anti-Semitism is sometimes in the ear and eye of the beholder. For me it makes no difference if Gibson perceives his work as anti-Semitic. It does puzzle me that such a sensitive, self-styled Moral Messenger, hears
the hurt of thousands and thousands [of people who within their lifetime suffered from anti-Semitic murder and bilious canards] and still shrugs a cold shoulder. There is passion and then there is compassion. Passion
according to its root derivation is pain. You’ll wince, you’ll
cry and kiss ten bucks goodbye.
Well, let’s get this out of the way…. I am not sure where my religious beliefs stand, and though I have not as of yet seen the movie, I am certain that it will not bend me one way or the other.
I just want to comment on the possibility of hatred being feuled by this movie. Saying that all jews killed Jesus would be stereotyping and I don’t see it happening. That would be like a black man automatically hating me because I am white. Oh wait…….depending on the black man, this may be true.
There is a point here….
All of the talk of possible increases in violence towards jews is just opening a door for a reason for acts of violence to be committed. Any person that is violent towards, or even just states that they hate jews after seeing the movie, had these feeling before the viewing.
Those of you who keep saying that Jesus has died at the hands of the Jews are partially right. IT was them who had tried to KILL him, But he was raised up to God therefore he did NOT DIE!! Jesus will come back…hence before the Day of Judgement.
Dear Mel
i`m from Amazing Grace Church in Wheeler MI I just wanted to let you know how proud our church is of you and your movie in all honesty i feel the lord is smiling down on you and thanking you for showing all his children the truth of what happened to his Son thank you for being such an insperation on all of us and we are here to support you 110%
*sigh* All this gushing and fawning over a tacky Hollywood book adaptation.
If admission were free, or the profits went to charity – perhaps it could be noble.
Imo Mel (Chicken Run) Gibson is too inexperienced and frankly unsophisticated to handle such profound subject matter.
Just another egotistical Oscar winner, navely aiming for immortality.
Just a note to thank Mel Gibson, Jim Caviezel and the other cast and crew of The Passion of the Christ. I saw it last night in a SRO theater in the Midwest. There was stunned silence at the end. I think everyone there was moved profoudnly. This is an important gesture of Christian leadership, and it will become a powerful tool for the evangelization and eventual salvation of thousands, maybe millions of souls. My family will pray for all of you, and we thank you for your courage, risk and sacrifice.
Well Mr Gibson, and everyone who actually reads this, I have done a lot of reading tonight about your up coming movie The Passion of the Christ and I must say I applaud your brave and courageous actions in following and being obedient to Gods call in your life. This, I believe, is exactly what our culture (I can only speak as a Canadian) needs in a time when so many decisions are being made against what Christ died for.
I do not believe that you intend to insite anti-semitic views or feelings. I also do not believe that is what Christ, a Jew Himself, came to start. Throughout history, our Jewish brothers and sisters have suffered at the hands of many differnt people, and I commend the Jewish people for remaining faithful to their faith. I also apologize on behalf of any of my fellow believers that have acted against the Jewish community, because I sincerely believe that Gods heart is first for the Jews, then the Gentiles (every one else) as His word says.
I do, unfortunately, believe that some people will take this movie, like so many other things in history, and twist it to justify what they want to accomplish. That, unfortunately is a reality. But, what is also a reality is that, like many others have stated here and elsewhere, the Jews were not the only ones that killed Jesus. Gods plan demanded that blood be spilled for the sins of all of humankind. If it had been another goat or lamb, then we would still be sacrificing them. But, because Jesus at His trial did not even blink an eye when asked what He was accused of, and knew what He was doing when He endured the torture of the Crucifixion, and willingly did all this movie portrays, God accepted that sacrifice once and for all. FOR ALL!
This brings me to my point. We should not be surprised at all that this movie is bringing so much bad press and so much turmoil. Jesus brought the same thing to earth when He was here. As Jesus said in Matthew 24:9, Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. It is because of Jesus all of this turmoil is happening, and this movie, and Mr Gibson are being persecuted. I say, let it come. It is also in Gods plan, as he says in the next verses of Matthew 24.
I will definately be seeing this movie. I will be seeing it as many times as I have unbelieving friends that want to come with me. I pray that God will give each of his children the leading of His Holy Spirit when our friends challenge us with questions, comments, or persecution. After all, Christ suffered more than we will ever be able to comprehend fully, and I think this movie will bring every human being who view it closer to an understanding of just what He did.
I welcome any comments or questions. God bless everyone who watches this movie or is in some way touched by it. May the love of Christ and the life He died to give to us touch more lives through this movie than we can possibly imagine.
God bless you all.
Mel Gibson, I believe you took a leap of faith and did obey a personal call from God.
Also did we forget who is in charge here? If we like to blame the Jewish leaders of that day, we are forgetting the most important thing…God’s will.
Satan is at it again, call it distraction.
It wasn’t about the Jews. It was about Jesus. God wrote the script. It is about His Word, His way, His will.
Dare we forget that He chose the nails?
It is high time the true be told I have seen many documents on the doctor’s side and Mel you did it!!!!! In the end everyone will know the trueth. You are just one more he has used, thank you so much!! God bless
P.S. don’t get too angry at the other people that are no idea what they are talking about they are just affraid of the trueth and will stop it at all cost….. you and your family will be in our prayers!!!
My comments have nothing to do with the film, which I intend to watch and judge for myself as a life-long Catholic (with a liberal leaning). If Mel Gibson is truly trying to show the love Jesus had for all of us by the ultimate sacrifice of crucifixtion, that Jesus came to spread the word of love and acceptance for all, why is he allowing his apparently brain-dead father to run around saying that the Holocaust was a “fiction.” Is that the type of publicity he wants for his film–especially since he has had to defend it against charges that it is Anti-Semitic? Mel, if you really love Jesus, reign your father in, and acknowledge that you Jesus , I killed him, all the people in China killed him, etc. Jesus died for the sins of all–every nationality, sex and religion–so that we could know eternal salvation. We are all his children. Want to show the Lord the proper respect?–educate and save your crazy father. Maybe he should be one of the first to see your film. God knows it anyone needs to be saved, he does. I really wish Mel Gibson could see this and give me an answer. I am sick of the haters and the historical revisionists.
God Help Mr. Gibson, Sr.
Mel why did you use three mainline female PORN stars as your female leads in the Passion of the Christ? Is there something that you are not telling us. Your story does not follow the bible concerns me as well.
For those of you who do not know, here is a bit of info for you.
Three of the actresses who have key roles in this film are not only internationally renowned actresses, but are hardcore pornography stars! Monica Bellucci, who plays Mary Magdalene in Gibsons Passion movie, is quite the rage as a European porn queen as well as one of the hottest actresses in Hollywood (according to one fan site). Rosita Celentano, who is the androgynous character of Satan in The Passion, and Claudia Gerini, who plays the role of Pilate’s wife, are hardcore porn stars as well.
Take care,
Gordon
Movie Unbiblical
Assuming that Scripture is a true and infallible testimony (at least for the sake of this argument) we have to note that the gospels are not detailed enough to support a movie. As such the director had to add content things such as the exact words used in the conversations, the facial expressions of the disciples, the emotions of Christ, or the filler between the various events. One case of this is the events that happened in between when Christ was arrested at night and tried the next morning. Since this content was added by Mel in his movie (documented extensively by Newsweek as well as many other sources) and editorial decisions were made as to what portions of scripture to include it is the case that the Passion of Christ is more than the current biblical account of Christs death. Mel Gibson and his team have created an additional Gospel. Perhaps he didnt add anything of substance but if we look at other parts of scripture we are amazed at how the little nuances of the text convey great meaning. Extending this though to the movie every intonations of speak, every look, every expression of Christ conveys so much let alone the wording of the speech and the parts of the conversations chosen. Creating another gospel (the gospel according to Mel Gibson) does add to the cannon of scripture. This is in direct contrast to the words (divinely inspired by the Holy Ghost) of John in Revelations 22:18, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book. It may be true that this movie does not purport to be the truth on the subject. It only claims to be a sample of what might have taken place. However; given that todays Christians are already weak in the Bible knowledge, it will supplant true scripture in their minds. Already we picture the face of the Jesus character when we meditate on Christ instead of dwelling on the holiness of God. Additionally, we have Mel Gibson making comments about how he felt the Holy Ghost telling him to make this movie to the extent that he felt he couldnt not make it. Newsweek claims he even said, the Holy Ghost was working through me on this film. Statements such as these echo what the authors of the Bible wrote about their works. We therefore have Mel Gibson claiming divine inspiration which is directly forbidden in Revelations. Others who have tried such stunts have been the Mormons, the Church of the Latter-day Saints, and the Muslims.
God inspired the Bible to be written and divinely watched over it throughout the ages protecting its transmission until this day. He has spoken in it that this is the way He has chosen (the foolish means of preaching, faith comes by hearing, etc). God does not need our help. We do not need to decide for Him that written scripture is too hard for our media entranced generation to handle. God makes a way through such seeming impossibilities. That has always been His choice. In fact, He intentionally causes us to despair in ourselves so that we go to Him for our help. Abraham was to wait in faith and trust God to give him a son, not to take Hagar as his wife. We are always to use the ways God appoints, not create other ways. When Aarons sons took strange fire and tried to offer it they were struck dead by God. Even David (Gods chosen) tried to help God out by carrying the Ark of God in a cart instead of by the prescribed method of the Priests shoulders. What was the result? Uzza was struck dead (1 Chronicles 13:9). God is love but only through His appointed mediator; only in His prescribed method of salvation; and only through the word He has chosen to bless.
True religion is not something man came up with and as such man should not tinker with it. God knows best how to run things. (If the argument is how do we know God did not inspire Mel? this is already arguing from a conclusion. We are to flee the appearance of evil not argue about how bad is it. God closed the canon of scripture in Revelations and as He does not change it remains closed.)
Additionally we need to note that Paul, one of the main characters of the New Testament talks of his slowness of speech. He was not an eloquent speaker. He didnt use convincing words (or special effects.) It is the Holy Spirits job (His delight) to convert the hearts and minds of sinners not the convincing cinematic of a movie studio.
Emotions are not the Real thing
People have come away from the movie and said it was very moving. This I do not doubt. They say it made them feel closer to God. Lets take a look at this. What is feeling close to God supposed to mean? Is God anymore real if I feel close to Him? Is my salvation more sure if I feel saved? Emotions and feelings of adoration can be in our minds but not in our hearts. Look at the radical Muslims. They have strong emotions of devotion and feelings (that even causes them to give up their lives flying planes into buildings) but it is obviously not true religion. Emotions are not what we should believe in. Emotions are not even where God starts. He starts in the heart. True religion is the worship of God not feelings, not emotions, not even our praise and worship. The love Gods children have for Him is much more than an emotion. It wells up from an overwhelmed heart not from a tear induced mind. The new birth as Christ explains it is exactly that a turning from darkness to light. Not an emotional high but a change in the character where a person who once enjoyed sin now hates it. A person who used to be OK with a sham religion now is diligent in serving God. The change (worked in us by God) is what is important not whether or not we feel close to Christ.
Patriotic movies can make you feel patriotic. Sad movies make you feel sad. That the passion of Christ makes one feel the emotions it does, owes to the fact the Mel is good at his job not that the Holy Spirit is using it.
Christian Rock music has much the same ideas to it. I know it is widely used to win souls to Christ but it to is fatally flawed and for much the same reasons. Frenzied emotions blind a person. Look at the infatuation of young lovers. They get so caught up in their emotions they blind themselves to reality. True religion is not wild emotions it is a calm trust and belief in Jesus and in His atoning work which removes sins Sins that are very real and a constant struggle. True religion is the worship of God. Not what we feel or anything in us.
Also, how can a movie show the real passion of Christ. The suffering He endured was not the pain of the cross, the humiliation, the rejection of His disciples, or any of that. It was the forsaking of His Father and the baring the full wrath of God against sin. We have no real conception of the wrath of God against sin. If we did we would not sin so cheaply. The Christ characters flippant remarks about being stuck by lightening show that he has no respect for Gods justice. (Talking about the incident later he mocked God and said as if to God, didnt like that take, huh?) If we understood the holiness of God and the awesome hatred of sin that He has we would be forever silent.
Mel as the Man
When we read through the spread of the gospel of Christ in the early years it is exactly that the spread of the gospel. It is not the glorification of Paul or of Peter but of Christ. Mel has become the key hero of this saga. He paid for it. He was directed by the Holy Spirit. He made the decisions. He He He. This movie is to his honor not that of Christ. (I have read that he is a sincere person who really believed in this movie and therefore he made it. After all I have read I have no doubts to his intentions but I still disagree with what he is doing and has done. Emotions do not make something right.) Never once have I read anything about him confessing his sins such as Paul The good that I would I do not, but the evil which I would not, that I do (Rom 7:9.) All those that God has used for His work (other than unregenerates like Pilate or Nero) He humbles to the point that they see their own unworthiness. Look at Moses. He thought he was ready to save Israel from Egypt but God caused him to wait in the wilderness to 40 years tending sheep until he was humbled before God. Mel Gibson does not exhibit the humility we find in Moses, Paul, Peter, John, or even recent pillars of faith like Martin Luther or John Calvin.
If God did inspire this movie then He would be giving His stamp of approval on the loose lives lead by Mel and each of the characters. (By loose I am not saying murder, adultery, etc but the more prevalent inward sins of the heart, the love of this world, the lack of self-sacrifice to God, the pride, and the absence of the sorrow for sins and struggle for holiness.) He who created the heavens and the earth does not need to use and would not use open sinners. Yes, Peter was a sinner, all of Gods people are, but they hate sin and flee from it. They strive against it their whole lives. I do not see that striving in the movie industry. The Bible speaks of its authors as prophecy came not in old time by the will of man but Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost (2 Peter 1:21).
Conclusion
The Bible is very old but God is older still. In fact He is timeless and eternal and changeless. If a religion that satisfies our emotional need for belief in a higher being is all that is needed then the religion of Mel Gibson fits. In it one can live a holy life while ignoring injunctions of scripture. He can then tweak his religion and his God over the years to jazz Him up for greater appeal. He basically writes the script of what he wants the Deity to be. But, if one wants true religion, the belief in a God that is changeless, a God that does not bow down to the whims of fickle creatures, a God that is the same yesterday, today, and forever then He is not found in a movie theater but in His word.
Dear Mr. Gibson:
Thank you so much for making this film, “The Passion of The Christ”. You have no idea how proud, how impressed, and how much we appreciate you for making it. Not only did it take guts, but also quite a lot of your own money. The Lord will have a very special place for you. Never has anyone else in my lifetime taken such a chance at witnessing to others. I am so tired of being the “minority” in this country. It’s time we stepped up and let people know who we are. And I love the Jews….Jesus was a Jew. I cannot imagine anyone saying this film is anti-Semetic.
God bless you, Brother. Let me know when this comes out on DVD. I’ll be first in line to buy it.
In Christ,
VSidles
I HATE MEL GIBSON! HE IS A !@#$%^& !@#-!@#$ “passion” is only an anti-jewish “movie” (if you could call it that) It portrays Jeasus as being turened in by a jew, implying that all jews are bad. I will tell you, I am jewish, and am PROUD! Even if the story portrayed is true (which it is not), that doesn’t meen all the chosen people are that way. If Mr. Gibson is biewing this, I challenge him to pistols at noon. When I see the “film” i will go in w/ a supersoaker and shoot the screen when Jeasus comes on.
Also, in realtion to the comment by Tom Wukawitz, Jews will not be converted to the Christian (false) faith, as the Jews are god’s chosen people. Jeasus didn’t even want to create a new faith, he wanted to reform judiasm to stop some of the courrouption in the hirearchy of the Jewsih faith (i realize that I am leaving a door open for re-buttal, but there is courrouption everywhere, including the Vatican). It wasn’t for a few hunderd years after.
Mel,
I will answer your questions, I will ease your pain and I will give you clarity.
As Gump might say: ‘Mel’s Passion is like a sprinkling of Holy Water, it blesses some and makes others howl’.
In Response to Sam Ticker (above),
Dude, you have a serious spelling problem. However, I will give you credit for the word “HATE”…How about sticking to what you know, that is, after you figure out what that may be.
And about that “Supersoaker” I totally suggest you take it back to the store, and get over your “Little Man Syndrome” otherwise you may be the next in line for the lightning strike.
In your dialog above, you begged for this humiliation, so take it like a man and keep your “trigger” fingers off the keyboard!!!
Now go to bed and say your Prayers.
P.S. DO NOT EMAIL ME!
Dear Mel Gibson..
we looooooooooooooooooooove you sooooooooooooo Much.. MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ..
i cannot wait to Watch your movie in LEBANON soon
WISH YOU ALWAYS ALL THE BEST …
Its amazing that the same groups that demand “tolerance” have so little of it themselves.
It’s ironic that you want tolerance for propaganda that fuels intolerance against (allegedly) hypocritically intolerant groups that demand tolerance.
Mr. Ticker,
Maybe you haven’t spent much time reading the O.T. And I think its safe to assume none of the N.T. Gods Word is full of love not hate. Hate is sin and sin seperates us from God, seperation from God is eternal death. But there is a way to be saved from eternal death. Its Jesus.
The movie was awsome!!! I would like to see Mel tackle the subject of Israeli apartheid next.
I think that it is intolerant to call someone else’s interpretation of their religion “propaganda.” In your opinion, where did Gibson’s work stray from the Gospels? I found the movie to be an accurate reflection of them. Tolerance is a two way street.
‘*Propaganda* Roman Catholic Church. A division of the Roman Curia that has authority in the matter of preaching the gospel, of establishing the Church in non-Christian countries, and of administering Church missions in territories where there is no properly organized hierarchy.’
- http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=propaganda
Jihad by Mel Gibson
“They may take our West Bank, but they will never take our women’s freedom!”
Sounds like good-ole-fashion Catholic bashing to me.
Seems you’ve read into my post’s ambiguity, some unintended Anti-Catholic sentiment.
Sorry about that.
If *I* had the power to amend it – *I* would.
I’m having a hard time understanding why people automatically start picking apart things. As Mel said himself, we are ALL responsible for Christ’s death. In this film, you fully understand all that Jesus endured for all of us. Yes, unfortunately is was VERY gruesome and bad but He loved us ALL so much that he did this. As soon as I found out, my prayer was that God would reach people who normally wouldn’t step foot in a church and show them he loved them that much TOO. I believe voices from the hearts of TRUE CHRISTIANS should be reflected and it will be evident in their words and actions. Good job Mel! What a true statement of faith. Just think, a man in his position, fully exposed stepping out in faith to do something like this. How dare we criticize when we haven’t even come close to taking a chance like this. Stand firm Mel and know that God will bless you. May we all have strong enough to do the same when attacked by opposition.
Dear Mel,
Thank You. The Passion takes us through the gift our Lord gave us. Words cannot express my gratitude for your courageous undertaking. I stand behind you in any criticism you take for this film.
Your Friend and Brother in Christ,
–Phil
The Passion is a great movie and the great lengths that Mel Gibson has to go through to make this movie as accurate as possible is one of its hallmarks. Christians don’t hate Jews, Religion is a great unifying factor in people’s lives. What a true Christian, Jew, Muslim and other true believers of their faith hates is people who maybe Jew or Christian who are arrogant, intolerant and self-obsessed.
MR. GIBSON,
I HAVE NOT YET HAD THE HONOR OF SEEING YOUR FILM. YET I FEEL OBLIGATED TO WRITE IN YOUR SUPPORT. EVERYTHING I’VE HEARD IS OUTRAGEOUS. ANTISEMETIC? THEIR COMMENTS REMIND ME OF JERRY SEINFELDS UNCLE WHO THOUGHT EVERY ONE WAS AN ANTISEMITE. YOUR BROUGHT THE STORY OF OUR CHRIST WHO SUFFERED AND DIED FOR US, BACK TO LIFE AS WRITTEN BY THE BIBLE. HE DIED OVER 2000 YEARS AGO AND MOST PEOPLE FORGET WHAT HE DID FOR US. HE SUFFERED AND DIED IN A PUPLIC WAY SO WE COULD SEE WHAT HE WAS DOING FOR US. ALL YOU HAVE DONE IS BROUGHT THAT BACK FOR US. AS IF HE WERE CARRYING HIS CROSS DOWN FIFTH AVENUE. THE BIBLE STATES PONCIOUS PILOT WASHED HIS HAND OF JESUS, AND THE THREATENED JEWISH HIGH PREISTS HAD HIM CRUCIFIED. THATS NOT ANTISEMITIC, ITS WRITTEN IN THE BIBLE, AND MELL GIBSON DID NOT WRITE THE BIBLE. ITS OUR FAITH, DON’T LET ANY ONE TELL US WHAT WE’RE SUPPOSE TO BELEIVE. ITS ALSO RATED R, SO WHY DON’T THOSE CRITICS STOP WHINNING ABOUT CHILDREN SEEING IT. THE VIOLENCE IS TO REMIND US OF WHAT OUR CHRIST WENT THRU, I DON’T WANT THAT SUGAR COATED. THANKYOU MR. GIBSON.
Revelations
7And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9The great dragon was hurled down–that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
10Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:
“Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Christ.
For the accuser of our brothers,
who accuses them before our God day and night,
has been hurled down.
11They overcame him
by the blood of the Lamb
and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much
as to shrink from death.
12Therefore rejoice, you heavens
and you who dwell in them!
But woe to the earth and the sea,
because the devil has gone down to you!
He is filled with fury,
because he knows that his time is short.”
Well, I do not know why Mel Gibson is getting so much bad publicity for making this movie. In fact, I am sure that Mel was simply trying to make a movie that tries to bring history out as accurately as possible.
I have sent a message to Mel via his agent for his next movie. I think he should make a movie about the sadistic and brutal nature of Pope Urban II and others during such times as the Crusades, etc… I am sure that Mel will be able to express the history of that time in an accurate manner that will not result in crazy and brutal actiona by Muslims against Christians. HEY, if the passion wont stimulate anti-semitism, then I’m sure the christians woudl be safe with that one!!!
Keep on trucking Mel–
Groucho – I don’t necessarily agree with you, but I have to hand it to you. You are good at making your point. Peace to you and yours!
What a bunch of sorry Christians that have to fuel their poor faith on movie garbage. I get more inspired watching the 3 Stooges then looking at Mel’s Hell. Down with Mel and up with Jesus. Let’s put the diapers away and stop watching these junk for Jesus movies. Mel take a hike, permanently.
Mel
Thank you.
In Christ,
Andrew
In response to John’s message, it seems to me that if you want to bring Jesus up, you might try finding a better place to start than undercutting other Christians. I also think that Christians shouldn’t fuel all of their faith on movies alone, but what is wrong with using a movie like this to promote fellowship. Should we stop reading the bible and praying together as well. Is that putting away the diapers. This is a difficult topic and i hope i don’t start an arguement. that is not the intent, but i feel that this was something that needed to be done and is a great chance for fellowship and revival.
In Christ,
Andrew
Gracious K Fields,
I’m delighted this has concluded amicably.
Farewell.
Our sins are soooo great that Jesus died a brutal death, would it mean the same if he died of leathel injection?
Dear Mel,
Saw the movie. It was the kind of movie where you had little to say afterwards. Thank you,
PS no pund intended.
I think that most people fail to understand one thing about The Passion, and that is this. We are all just as guilty as all who participated in Jesus Christ’s cruxificion. We are all guilty of being like Judas who betrayed Jesus. We are all guilty as the Jews who condemnded Christ to death. We are all guilty as the disciple who denied Jesus three times. We are as guilty as the Pharisees who mocked Him, and we are as guilty as the Romans who tortured and Cruxified Jesus. For in our lifetime, we have committed the same sins. Maybe not in the same way…but we have sinned in denying Christ as the Lord and Savior, the King of Kings, the Lord of all Lords. For every Jew and Gentile – or in our terms – every American, Latin, Italian, Asian, European, African, or whatever race or nationality that you may,is guilty of the same sins that those in the New Testament are guilty of. It is easy for us to cast stones; but the truth is that the cruxificion…The Cross…the burden, the pain, the suffering that Jesus Christ carried was for ALL of mankind. “For God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son, that whosoever (Jew or Gentile) believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.
I believe that the Holyspirit inspired Mel Gibson in accurately creating this movie. The Bible says, folks, that in the last days God would pour out his spirit upon all the earth. We are finally here. We are really finally here. The day is at hand!
Mel
Thank You !
Mark
How was the Passion of the Christ? It is the best movie ever made.
Passion of Christ
Observations
I dont remember hearing or seeing of a movie dedicated to the 12 hours prior to and including the crucifixion.
Jesus suffered two punishments: Roman flogging, which often caused death by itself, and then, of course, the crucifixion.
I was amazed at the amount of time spent running Jesus back and forth between different magistrates and religious leaders.
The long walk up to Golgotha must have insured that He was half dead before he was nailed to the cross.
Flipping the cross over to bend the nails securely must have been excruciating.
The black eye startled me: all of us have had a black eye. It seems so real to me.
The exposed ribs from the cat of nine tails.
The scenes with the devil. It reminds us of the fact that Christs battle is with the devil and not with mankind. It is for mankind. Ephesians 6
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
The devil was portrayed perfectly as someone who walks among us whispering in our ear, deceiving us, tempting us, convincing us, making us afraid, seeking those he may devour.
1 Peter 5
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
About the violence in reference to Jesus trial and Crucifixion:
o Jr. High and High School ages can profit from this movie, if their parents think their younger Jr. high kids can handle the images. I dont think we can ask most younger children to understand such terrible sacrifice below that age.
o Some of our children, who struggle with selfishness and anger problems, need to understand the concept that Jesus laid down his life for us; they need to see what He gave up, in humility. They need to see His self-control while being scorned, teased, tortured. He had greater rights than we can imagine, unfathomable power to punish and still NO ONE took His life: He laid it down.
o Jesus voices the above truth, in the movie, with scripture.
o The violence was very dramatic: this IS a movie about a crucifixion. But. Our teenagers see movies a great deal more violent, movies that are gratuitously violent with no message of any sort.
Last of all, this movie convicted Dennis Thompson (me) even more of the sin that I have and that surrounds me everyday. In the end, though, it shows me, too, how much God loves me and all of mankind and, how very much He wants all to be saved.
The people who are attacking this movie because it is aganist the Jews, are simply idiots.
The movie shows that all of this suffering was arranged by God in order to give us a new hope and chance and possiblity to enter the heaven again.
So even if couple of Jews was somehow involved in the crucification of Jesus christ.. at the end they are small elements in God’s big plan to set us all free.. so no use to blame the movie for anything..
That’s what I noticed..people was very happy with _The pianist_.._Prince of Egypt_..etc.. because it shows the suffering of the Jews thorugh the history..and nobody had a problem with those movies.. but when for one time as a change a movie show that the jew like any other race have good people and bad evil people..they made it a big deal.. guys think in why Jesus was crucified..not how and by whom..THINK..
Er…I doubt crackpots run spell checks.
Nice try though.
Isaiah 53
4 surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by GOD, smitten by him, and afflicted.
5 but he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
6 we all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Dear Mel,
I took my two boys ages 13 and 16 to see this film Saturday. It was the most remarkable and touching film we have ever seen. All three of us were crying, I was even sobing. My oldest son cried so much that he could not watch the chastising scenes. It was a reminder of what Jesus went through to save our lives. Like it was stated in the movie, “Mother, I am making everything new.” At no times during or after this film did any one of us feel any hatred towards the Jewish people. Mel you did a great job with this movie, the subject was not sugar coated. This is a reminder that we needed as a whole to realize why we are here and what great sacrifices were made so that we would live. I am happy that I experienced this movie with my children. It left me speechless but I would set through it again as a reminder of what I have and why I have it.
Thanks again MEL
Passion of Christ:
Dear Mel…I know that God has a special place for you…I truly feel you were “guided” to make this movie…The message is loud and clear…Love your neighbors and your enemies; as I Love you…And the depth of Jesus’s Love was and is apparent by how much He suffered physically and spiritually to save our souls…Thank you Mel Gibson for listening to the call and acting upon it…
And I say to you; All will see and hear that He is Jesus the Christ,And for those who have spiritual eyes and see and those who have spiritual ears and hear will know that he is Jesus the Christredeemer of souls.
And further I say to you.
In this secluded place in the garden of Gethsemane; Lucifer and his assistants lie in waituniting in their efforts to break down the spiritual resistance of Jesus. Mere human words can not describe the terror of the visions held up by the Legion of Darkness and his followers. Even the temptations in the wilderness can not compare to what Jesus now had to endure..Satan and his evil spirits now exhibit to Christ all that is fearful and detestablehe shows Jesus pictures of His Apostlessleeping; and Lucifer mocks them; corruption; blaspheming; sins of the flesh; and he shows him his capture; Peters denial; and how the crowds want him to diethose who earlier supported Jesus as He was with them in Jerusalem–now want his death; and the devil continues to torment Jesus; showing him the brutality in explicit detail; the crown of thorns; the brutality of His beatings as He walked in Calvary and finally His own death upon the crosseverything was shown to our Lord in explicit horrifying detail. And all the evil spirits of despair; desperation and hopelessness are trying to penetrate the mind of Jesus so He would weakenNever has a man endured such torture, torment and suffering as did JesusSimultaneously physically and spiritually He suffered; and to add to this; so He was without human consolationand without Divine InterventionSatan and his legions failed in their efforts to deter Christ and that He would submit–and not fulfill the promise of salvation…
And so the sun failed to shine; and a darkness came over the land; not by reason of natural causes; but as a sign from God
It is now in this final hour that all need to re-examine his earthly life and do what is pleasing to GodLove one another; show kindness; compassion; humility and be-friend his enemiesso that when his earthly life has endedso shall his spirit inherit the Kingdom of God.AmenAmen.
Just a few Comments for the record:
The Roman Empire occupied Judea for approximately 400 years. During this occupation, the Romans tortured, raped, enslaved, murdered, and exiled countless thousands of Jews; Jesus was one of them.
For those who believe that the Jews killed Jesus:
The Torah, (5 Books of Moses), stated very clearly the four types of death sentences meeted out by The Sanhedrin: Stoning, Strangulation, Burning, and The Sword. Crucifixtion, was not a Jewish invention……it was however, one of the main methods of torture and death afflicted upon by the inhabitants of Judea by the Romans.
Those of my Christian Bretheren who have a modicum of intelligence and truly fear G-d, will take these facts into consideration. Further, those who believe that G-d is omnipotent, must believe that if he wanted to stop the death of Jesus, he most certainly had the power to do so.
So, if one believes in the omnipotence and the will of G-d as being supreme; blaming the Jews, or any humans for that matter, is a direct contradiction of faith.
As for the film: It’s not my idea of entertainment to watch a human being beaten and tortured for an hour. I dont see how this type of portrayal can enforce someone’s faith. I’d much rather see a film made about the life and good works of Jesus……but I guess that wouldn’t sell? Would it Mr. Gibson?
Mel, I thought your movie was very good and accurate according to what I know of the Bible. However, I felt the end was kind of rushed.I would love to see a sequel-from his death, Joseph’s tomb, the Roman guards guarding the tomb, the earth shaking, stone being rolled away, the tomb being empty, Mary&Martha at the tomb, Peter,James and John running to the tomb, the 12 disciples in the upper room, doubting Thomas, His ascension and promise to return! Please, do a sequel just as good as the first. I will see you here, there, or in the air.
Dear Mel,
I dont know if your gonna read this, but THANK YOU for making this film. God Bless you and your family. I know through god you made this film!
Cinnamon
Sorry, gang, but I don’t go to movies, its like watching the Super Bowl halftime show – yuk. As for the churches pushing the mel flick, sorry churches, sorry mel, you struck out! Just like Losers of the Rings – I lasted through seven seconds of that bunk. Let’s bring back Shane – now that’s a real movie! Bless you all!
Dear Mel Gibson,
I was wondering if there was some way to thank you for making The Passion of the Christ. Then I came across this website. I just saw the movie today and I was completely blown away. I thought I understood what Jesus did for us, but, today I learned that I didn’t really have a clue. It is the best movie I have ever seen even though it was difficult to watch. I felt as though I were there, watching our Savior dying a brutal death for me. I wanted to yell “Stop” when they were beating him. I kept saying to myself, “I’m sorry, Jesus.” Thank you for bringing this to us, Mel. The world needs it. People need to know how much God loves us. Thank you for being obedient to God. He is using you as an instrument. You are a true blessing.
God Bless you and your family,
Tina
Dear Mel,
The passion of Christ. This is the best film I have ever witnessed about the wonderful man Jesus! I give credit to you and to god. To god for inspiring you to make this film. To you for obeying and making it. I was truely touch and forever changed, the glory and praise goes to god and you. I have never been moved more by a film. I wouldnt even call it a film. I would call it the Greatest Love story ever. The man paid a price for you , I, and everyone else. God Bless you!
Yours Truely,
Dustin Boden
dear Mel
we want to see your film (THE PASSION) in EGYPT as soon as possible.
Where is the Muslim critique of this film. Islam forbids the showing of visual images of any prophet, including JC. Why isn’t anyway asking Muslims if they find this film offensive, or I guess they don’t count in the current CLIMATE as real spiritual human beings, huh?
Dear Mel Gibson,
I have had the wonderful oppurtunity of viewing your film “The Passion of the Christ” and I must say as a Christian it was trully a life-altering experience. I don’t understand all the controversy that has been establihed from this movie. The only thing I figure is that the people who don’t appreciate what you have done do not know the true story of the crucifiction and resurrection of my Savior. God was truly with you throughout the filming of this film and he will continue to be with, just keep the faith and through Him all things will work out the way the He sees fit.
Thankfully,
A child of Christ
I loved the film very much. I can not wait to see it again. I thank you so much for making this movie, I would like to say that I also would like to see a second movie starting with the resurection of the Lord. You did a great job Mr. Gibson and I thank you so much.
I can not stand to hear people say how violent the movie was. The reason for this is that the same people talking about how violent this film is and how that is bad are the same people that will give their kids a movie like Jason vs. Freddy and say now leave me alone for a couple of hours. I took my 9 year old and 8 year old to see the movie. They have grown up in church and I thought they could gain something from this film. I know that some people will say how could you do that, well it is was easy. First they need to know just what Christ did for them. I knew what he did for me, I read the bible and I understood that you would not have know it was him when they got done but still I could not see it, really see it or feel it. I wanted my kids to see and to feel it like I did not when I was growing up. I would see a cross and see Jesus on it with a little blood coming down and I would think, that is how it was. It was not how it was. The movie shows as close as you are going to get as to how it was. It was not pretty and he loved us so much that he would be done that way. I want my kids to know how much he really loved us by how much he really did do for us. I know some people do not see it my way and that is ok.
I will say the same thing now as I said when I left the movie. If I was in his place, the first time they even raised a hand to hit me, I would have called for the angels and been out of there, I would have said you all can go to he– I am not doing this find your own way to heaven, besides it is not my fault you made this mess, you fix it. I am glad that he did what he did. I know I could not have taken even a minute of it.
As far as blaming the Jews, in no way can you blame the Jews for what happened. We all killed him with our sin. However the best part is that he is still alive and he is coming back.
I would like to say so much to people who are bashing this film but I am not going to say anything to them.
I would like to say to the Jewish man who wants to soak the screen, that I love him and Jesus loves him as well. In my bible in the N.T. it tells me to pray for the Jewish Nation and I do this. I love them and support them. I am not Jewish but I know that they are the choosen ones of God, he loves them very much. In the end they will come to know Jesus as we do and I thank God for that. I love you sir and I pray for you and all the Jewish people may God bless and keep you and your country safe.
Jon,
I agree; modern cinema is in a slump.
_Lord of The Rings 2_ remains my most degrading film going experience.
I’m going to wait until _The Passion_ turns up on TV.
S.R.Pauciello,
If Muslims take *any* offence to _The Passion_, they’ll speak out.
As they did with _The Satanic Verses_.
They’re not sulkily waiting to be asked their opinion FFS.
Dear Mel, I think the movie is great from what I hear. I have not seen it yet, because I live in Bethelehm Palestine.
I there anyway I can contact Mel. I would like to bring the movie to Bethlehem for Eatser.
Blessings,

Several Clarifications and accuracies questions.
Jesus by the Hebrew name Yehosoua, Joshua was born in Bet-Lechem (was he?).
The exist till today under Catholic wit Jewish customs for about 500 years since the deportation from Spain. That is against is philosophy of love the other which Jesus had ordered.
One more incorrect claim was about the Sanhedrin court. The Sanhedrin court could not sentence death if one witness objects, and further there are no Sanhedrin court notes on that event.
All was written later on as was explained about 50 years later with a lot of inaccuracies.
He followed Jewish laws as a proof he did his Passover Seder and eaten Matzos and all according to Judaism
1- How are you so sure Jews are accountable for Jesus , Yehosoua death.
The Roman Empire occupied Judea for approximately 400 years. During this occupation, the Romans tortured, raped, enslaved, murdered, and exiled countless thousands of Jews; Jesus was one of them.
The zealots Sikra and his militia men the Sikarikim let Rabbi Yohanan Ben Zacai to leave the city and the Romans let him out since he had no part in it and let him to establish Sanhedrin at the City of Yavneh. Read the history.
Sanhedrin was considered strict court if once each 50 years (Jubilee in fact 7×7=49) it sentenced to death.
For those who believe that the Jews killed Jesus:
The Torah, (5 Books of Moses), stated very clearly the four types of death sentences meeted out by The Sanhedrin: Stoning, Strangulation, Burning, and The Sword. Crucifixtion, was not a Jewish inventionit was however, one of the main methods of torture and death afflicted upon by the inhabitants of Judea by the Romans.
4- I have one more curiosity why days were modified why Shabatt was changed to Sunday etc.. If Jesus mentored lord laws according to Judaism, then if God ordered to rest in Shabbat why it was modified, If God said eat Kosher why it was modified. Jesus did not modify it. What was the book Jesus was reading, if not the Old Testament one and nothing but the old one? The answers are straightforward to disconnect the source of Judaism. But by that church had disobeyed Jesus will and legacy.
5-What is the root of the word Satan? The Hebrew words Satan Sitna etc, implies to bad and evil respectively.
There is no Satan, there is no angel of death or underworld. That is pagan remain as was explained before.
You have to know that in monotheistic fate there is only one supreme force. The god all mighty , or the nature Hateva which according to Jewish Kabala is the letters equality by weighting as numbers.
As I was explaining before the god test each one each day. God had designed it in such a way that he programmed each one with good and evil inclination, and lets you to select. If you stumble then you can show remorse and repentance which is a higher level of your soul. I had explained it before.
6-As for the people in fate, if God was for new fate why then the Crusade could not flourish Israel?
Why none could but us Israelis Jews, That was stated by Mark Twain when he saw the pioneers enthusiasm of rebuilding the abandon land. Twain was in Israel at the end of 18th.
7-One more question, If God left Jews why then they remained against all the odds, and kept Hebrew and brought it to life. That is out of any precedence at all. The holly Roman Empire was fateful to Christianity but had gone. The Byzantines were gone many were gone but we remained, how come? It is a wishful thinking Jews will convert to Christ. There is nothing to convert to, Yehosua, Joshua Jesus is a Jew that did not want any Catholic and other spans to be created. It was a modification of his Jewish mentoring.
8-As I was explaining in previous Levi are the people of the Levi Tribe, Cohen are the grandsons of Aaron the Cohen from Levi Tribe. The tribe of Moses Moshe . So according to Gibson and the new testament stories the nephews of Moses which are the grand grand sons of Aaron killed Jesus. The temple Cohen is the grand grand son of Aaron and his grand grand uncle is Moses. Read the Book..
So it was a cheep money making by Gibson taking advantage on hidden emotion of hate. His whole family has a clear history of anti-Semitic approach. Stay sincere with yourself, revise holocaust denying it and stating arguments by Gibson Senior without condemnation of Gibson Jr. what kind of definition would you have for it , but an old familiar antis emetic Mel behind an image of fate. Too many of my nation people had died for that story, which history facts and proofs shows nothing true about it. It was Church it was Pogroms it was Blood framing of Jews drinking the blood of young Christian children and using their blood for Matzoth. See the Beylis Trial in Russia etc. Read Learn. It was Catholic church inquisition lead by Torkemada Isabella and Ferdinand from Castile Spain in the 1500. Jews were burned on the stake for keeping their faith. Jews were forced to convert while keeping their faith in the underground, see Moranus Anusim.
The modern Christianity is living in harmony with Judaism, it is a golden age. But thee is a lot of bad taste where Gibson and his flock has to learn and make their own judgment and ask for god forgiveness f or what his fateful sect did to us. Even the Pope at the 60th asked and declared Jews did not killed Jesus. He is a Jew. Even the recent pope John Paul knows that and made his opinion clear. Catholic church as well as the reformation protestant of Martin Luther from Germany has a lot of involvement in pogroms against Jews.
And finally here is some nice web for you to look in the Second temple model
during Harrods time and prior destruction. The model was built upon Josephus-Plavious descriptions, and the Excavations and findings of the Hebrew University did in the Old-City. The model is in a size of a football yard and made out of Jerusalem stones. It is updated all times by the Archeology Dept of the Hebrew-University in Jerusalem. The model is a monument for the son of one of the Hebrew-University professors that had donated it as a memorial site for his son that was killed in battle at the war of independence of the state of Israel in 1948. One more interesting point and pointer is late Prof Ygaal Yadin (former Lt General IDF Chief of Staff) he was the one that found the dead see scroll. It is an interesting story more than a movie thriller. Select from menu Jerusalem Tour Holyland Model http://www.tourism.gov.il/TourHeb/virtual%20tour/index.html

I am Hilony not religious, but each one of us Jews and Israelis should know our history. We are a brave small nation. Light tower to all.
In my letter there was a missing part about Paul.
Here it is.
Christianity was a sect of Judaism and was opened later by removing the ancient Christians restrictions which were the Jewish laws obeyed by Jesus. Shaul-Hatarsi (Paul) had opened it to many followers.
He wanted Cohen priest daughter and was declined. Hence his aggravation was transferred into hate of Jews.
Since he started to spread the Christianity fate, he had modified its basic rules of following Judaism.
He removed all the laws. By doing so you lose the essence of it. These times in our eyes marketing had to be done, mainly with pagan fates. Hence the compromise was on Jewish laws, and that is why you see so many saints in Catholic Church. Moreover at its beginning as I said ancient Christians were Jewish, but they were suppressed by the new coming streams of Christianity till it became as of today.
Moreover Christianity was spread by the power of the sward forcing to convert. It was a missionary fate while Judaism said if you want to join you can but follow the faith rules.
The peak of prosecutions was during inquisition time, where Jews were burned on the stake or lived their fate in underground, these are the Anusim or Moranos. The exist till today under Catholic wit Jewish customs for about 500 years since the deportation from Spain. That is against is phylosophy of love the other of Jesus and Akiva.

The ancient Jewish court system was called the Sanhedrin. The Great Sanhedrin was the supreme religious body in Palestine during the time of the Holy Temple. There were also smaller religious Sanhedrins in every town in Palestine, as well as a civil political-democratic Sanhedrin. These Sanhedrins existed until the abolishment of the rabbinic patriarchate in about 425 C.E.
The earliest record of a Sanhedrin is by Josephus who wrote of a political Sanhedrin convened by the Romans in 57 B.C.E. Hellenistic sources generally depict the Sanhedrin as a political and judicial council headed by the countrys ruler.
Tannaitic sources describe the Great Sanhedrin as a religious assembly of 71 sages who met in the Chamber of Hewn Stones in the Temple in Jerusalem. The Great Sanhedrin met daily during the daytime, and did not meet on the Sabbath, festivals or festival eves. It was the final authority on Jewish law and any scholar who went against its decisions was put to death as a zaken mamre (rebellious elder). The Sanhedrin was led by a president called the nasi (lit. “prince”) and a vice president called the av bet din (lit. “father of the court”). The other 69 sages sat in a semicircle facing the leaders. It is unclear whether the leaders included the high priest.
The Sanhedrin judged accused lawbreakers, but could not initiate arrests. It required a minimum of two witnesses to convict a suspect. There were no attorneys. Instead, the accusing witness stated the offense in the presence of the accused and the accused could call witnesses on his own behalf. The court questioned the accused, the accusers and the defense witnesses.
The Great Sanhedrin dealt with religious and ritualistic Temple matters, criminal matters appertaining to the secular court, proceedings in connection with the discovery of a corpse, trials of adulterous wives, tithes, preparation of Torah Scrolls for the king and the Temple, drawing up the calendar and the solving of difficulties relating to ritual law.
In about 30 C.E., the Great Sanhedrin lost its authority to inflict capital punishment. After the Temple was destroyed, so was the Great Sanhedrin. A Sanhedrin in Yavneh took over many of its functions, under the authority of Rabban Gamliel. The rabbis in the Sanhedrin served as judges and attracted students who came to learn their oral traditions and scriptural interpretations. From Yavneh, the Sanhedrin moved to different cities in the Galilee, eventually ending up in Tiberias.
Local Sanhedrins consisted of different numbers of sages, depending on the nature of the offenses it dealt with. For example, only a Sanhedrin of 71 could judge a whole tribe, a false prophet or the high priest. There were Sanhedrins of 23 for capital cases and of three scholars to deal with civil or lesser criminal cases.

Hello! I went to see The Passion of The Christ twice since it has been in my town. The first day it was in my town my friend and I went to go see it. My friends mom had to get us in because us being minors still and it being rated R. Then the following Sunday morning I went to church and my Pastor said that they were paying for the public to go watch it. After the movie he was able to speak to the theatre full of people. The next Sunday at church he said that over 30 people commited their lives to Christ. I really enjoyed the movie. I was reading through this book I have called “1 Minute for God” which is a book that gives you a little section to read and then they ask questions so its kinda like devotions. While I was reading a part at school I realized that there were saying that were said literally word for word the same from the book to the movie. Have a good day and God bless you, Sunshine
Shabbat Shalom: Parshiot Vayakhel-Pekudei (Exodus)
Even if we concede the very profound theological message of Ki Tisa and the unique prescription of the priestly garments in Tetzaveh, we are still left with the initial delineation of the furnishings of the Sanctuary in Terumah and the seeming repetitions thereof in Vayakhel – Pekudei. Why not a general statement to the effect that “And Moses did as he was instructed in the construction of the Sanctuary”?
Rabbi Shlomo Riskin
We have often queried the significance of the five Torah portions, which conclude the Book of Exodus, and especially the repetitions, which we find in the detailed descriptions of the accoutrements of the Sanctuary.
Rav Elhanan Samet, in his ground-breaking study of the portions of the Bible from a structural-narrative perspective, explains that the commandment to make the various furnishings of the Sanctuary is given by G-d in the Torah portion of Terumah, the precise adherence of the Israelites to every detail of the Divine Command in performance is detailed in the Torah portion of Vayakhel perhaps to emphasize the fact that we must serve the Almighty in precisely the manner which He commands, no more and no less, to protect Judaism from religious fanaticism and zealotry – and the actual completion, the final ‘hammer blow’ of the construction of each sacred object, is presented in the Torah portion of Pekudei.
From an Israeli perspective, I might explain the importance of emphasizing the “finish” in a separate Torah portion by bringing to your attention a typical phenomenon of Israeli construction: ninety percent of the work generally gets done efficiently and even miraculously, but the last ten percent requires cajoling, entreating and sometimes (even usually) never gets done at all. And it goes without saying that the last ten percent is quite critical -especially during a rainy winter season!
But in a more serious vein, let us investigate the construction of the Sanctuary Table (shulhan) in order to understand the true reason for the order of description. The Divine command to make a Sanctuary Table is presented in the portion of Terumah in eight verses (Exodus 25: 23-30, beginning with “You shall make a Table of acacia wood, 2 hand-breadths long, a hand-breadth wide, and a hand-breadth and one-half in height…”) and the description of the performance of the making of the Table is detailed in the portion of Vayakhel – precisely (or almost precisely) paralleling the command in Terumah – in only seven verses (Exodus 37:10-16). What is missing in the performance? In the portion of Terumah, the last verse of the commandment regarding the construction of the Table tells us: “And you shall place upon the Table the show-bread before Me always” (Exodus 25:30); and then, towards the end of
the portion of Terumah, we find: “And you shall situate the Table outside of the curtain on the northern side of the Sanctuary” (Exodus 26:35). These two features, of the function of the Table (for the showbread), and the placement of the Table, while commanded in Terumah, are not included in the actual construction of the Table in the portion of Vayakhel; but these two features are specifically mentioned in the portion of Pekudei: “And he (Moses of Israel) placed the Table in the Tent of Meeting on the side of the Sanctuary northwards just outside of the curtain, and he arranged the arrangement of the bread before the Lord as the Lord had commanded Moses” (Exodus 40:22,23).
Why do we need the separate portion of Pekudei for the function and placement of the sacred Table of the Sanctuary? One might suggest a logical technical reason: the specific placement of the Table as well as its function as repository of the showbread could only be effectuated once the entire Sanctuary had been completed. Placement is a matter of relative space – each sacred object placed in relationship to the other sacred objects – and the various Sanctuary functions could not take place unless the Sanctuary had reached its final stage of construction. This final completion occurs only in Pekudei, and therefore it is only in this Torah portion that we find the phrase “just as the Lord commanded Moses” appearing, not only once but actually seven times (Exodus 40:17-32).
I would like to suggest another reason for the significance of Pekudei as the portion of the “finish”, the portion that emphasizes the placement and function of the sacred object. Each of us must see him/herself as sacred vessels, placed upon this world-Sanctuary in order to fulfill a specific task , which is crucial if human society is to be perfected under the Kingship of the Divine. Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, ushers in the introspective period known as the Ten Days of Repentance. It also called the Day of Remembrance, and one of the most stirring prayers on this Day of Repentance begins: “You (oh G-d) remember the deeds of historic world, and poked all the creatures from the earliest time.” The Hebrew word poked is usually translated as to take notice of, a synonym for remember; however, Rav Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz, ZT”L Dean of Yeshiva Torah Vodaath maintained that the verb comes from the noun tafkid, or function, and therefore the phrase ought to be translated, “You give a specific function to every creature from earliest times.”
The most proper – and penetrating-question of repentance that an individual ought ask him/ herself is, “Am I in the right country, doing the right thing?” In the one chance at life which G-d grants me, am I pursuing the proper path in the proper place?”
The Hebrew word “Pekudei” can also be translated as functions for each vessel, – sacred physical object or sacred human subject – completes its reason for being only when its/his/her unique function is performed. Only then can a vessel be considered as fully formed, can a life be assessed as having been truly lived. We can only pray that we are utilizing the unique gifts which the Almighty has imbued within us to perform the right function in the proper place; only then will the Divine orchestra play its completed symphony, and only then will the perfected Sanctuary-world provide a home for G-d to dwell in our midst.
Shabbat Shalom.

Indeed the movie Passion of Christ is a low level cheep movie showing all motives of antis emetic.
I saw it! The film level of acting is immature, amateur and lower.Bad acting by any scale.
Aramaic is spoken funny and was not used at that time as was explained by my previous reviews.
Looking back to the Nazi Der-Schturmer Journal edited by Joulious Schtreicher with the blessing of Gobbls, you can see the same motives. Pontious Pilatous is presented there as a nice handsome general. Short haircut blond, mannered, polite gentle that is trying to spare life, in our case Jesus life. The high priest Cayfa , which is a Cohen level, (see my review Cohen is from Levi Tribe grand son of Aaron the Cohen brother of Moses the Levi). is presented there as a blood thirst man. The Jews are presented as ugly long nose dirty people, thieves as were presented 70 years ago in the Nazi Journal cartoon and caricatures of Der-Schturmer Journal edited by Joulious Schtreicher. These motives are hidden to none armed eye or an eye that tries to ignore it. It is a stealth brainwash. The peak of this exaggeration is when Cayfa preferred the ugly thief upon Christ. The figure of the thief in the movie is also an ugly Jew caricature reminding the dark ages of the Nazi Journal cartoon and caricatures of Der-Schturmer Journal edited by Joulious Schtreicher. In fact this is a history error among many made by Gibbson. That so called thief was a general of the early seeds of revolts. Further more on that opinionated movie of hate. King Herode the builder and chief architect of the glamorous city of Jerusalem the Temple complex , Cezaria, Massada, is shown as a Gay, while in fact was a strong educated man cruel king that was grown in Rome by his father Anitpater the Edomite connections. Throughout the entire film Anti Semitic motives appears in a hidden way , implying Jews are Satan. You can see Satan goes only behind the high priest Cayfa, behind Jews and not mingled with the Romans.
That passion story brought many decrees and killings of my people from our Jewish nation.
Passion acting were the fuel and stimulation for riots against Jews at old times.
Inquisition, Blood framing, rape, burning alive on the stake, Pogroms, Holocaust.
It is sad to see we had learned nothing from the past.
So to all of you guys the outcome conclusion is that Gibbsons film is a cheep anti Semitic film having all motives of hate as Nazis had. This supports even further the fact that Gibbson and his family are Holocaust revisionists.

It seems people with true belief, whatever that may be to them, in an after life and a God, whatever that may be to them; have a greater like for this wonderful movie work by Mel.
Those that have little true belief, or do not intend to consider the hereinafter until it slaps them in the face on their deathbed, and those with far left attitudes and approaches to life; will not understand the meaning behind the movie.
Its kind of like what i tell my kids. If you didn’t like the book, the story will be of no value to you.
Atta boy Mel
Hello Mel,
You did a marvelous job. Who has ears to hear let him hear, and ho has eyes to see let them see and those who hate the truth, let us feel sorry for them.
The truth is the truth.
Jewish people or not, every nation is capable of doing wrong. Every person has a corner in his soul where would allow doing wrong in certain circumstances. It does not mean we hate Jewish. That happened thousands of years ago. What happens today? Is it different? How many innocent people are killed right in front of our eyes and we say nothing. Why?
So, all those who try to impose yourself on us back off and think again. Be realistic and stop playing smart at other peoples expense
Indeed the movie Passion of Christ is a high-level Christian movie showing the truth and motivating us to return to God. Has nothing to do with now or then hate. It is the TRUTH.
Good for you Mel, good for you for having the courage and inspiration of doing such a good film
Google linked me to this page, nice reading
Dear Mel, I’ve seen the movie and that was one of the movies that, for a long time, has gotten me to burst into tears. I’ve read some people’s opinions and I have one of my own. Even though I don’t go to church or believe in a certain religion,I believe that people should have a bad opinion about yoour movie. I didn’t see any problem in you creating a movie interpreting what could’ve happened to Jesus. People even talk about you baming Jews of His death and yet you didn’t say that you did anything of the sort. I’m glad that I’ve seen your movie and I have no objections of it. Hopefully, everyone mellows down on the subject and understands your intentions with actually seeing the movie themselves. -One of yourfans, Eli Flores
hey thanks for the information
that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
Woah this blog is wonderful i really like reading your articles. Keep up the good paintings! You realize, lots of people are searching around for this info, you could help them greatly.
A true critic would have also found something positive to say about the models construction and overall appearance. Ask Mr.Ebert.
