Revolve :: Bible magazine kindles teens’ spirit

New Testament translation gains faithful following among girls.

The cover or Revolve looks like any glamour magazine you might spot in the checkout line or magazine rack of the grocery store.

The headlines scream: “Guys speak out on tons of important issues.”

“Beauty secrets you’ve never heard before.”

“How to get along with your mom and other relationship notes.”

But wait. The fine print floating above the tanned, blemish-free models reveals the kicker. “The Complete New Testament.”

The Bible has gone CosmoGirl. Nearly 50,000 copies of Revolve have been sold since it’s July release, according to the Christian Booksellers Association.

  1. omg, my grandma gave me Resolve as a gift, and although i do own a bible, it just didn’t appeal to me, yes, i did read it, just never really thought of it as fun or interesting. but when i got Resolve, i became a bible reading fanatic, it has quizzes, and beauty tips, and guy opinions, and calendars, and relationship stuff, i mean i could go on for hours, and whats better, all the quizzes and things all tie into the Bible or God or Religion, i mean this is the coolest gift ive ever gotten, i am actually excited to get home and read my bible. and another thing, Resolve isn’t only for people my age(15), my neighbor who is 11 constantly wants to borrow it, and my sister who is 20 went and bought one for herself. Resolve is definantly a sure way to get any girl to read the Bible. I DEFINANTLY suggest eveyone go buy a copy right now!!

  2. My parents gave me a certificat to a Chrisitan book store. I had seen this teen’s “bible” around and thought I’de get it since it wasn’t my money being spent.

In my opinion this is a pretty cool magazine. I the colors and photos are basicly like every other teen magazine out there. But the one thing I really disaproved was all the talk of dating and the photos they put with a guy holding a girl quite close. To me it resembled way to much like any other magazine out there. It’s alsmot like another compermising statment for Christians. “Well we don’t want our teens reading those trash magazines so we’ll give them an alternavite so they’ll still fit in.” God called us to be set apart not to find a loop hole. Anyways thats just my opinion.

  3. If girls want to persue a connection with god, that is great but why should a religion try to attract followers by making religion look “cool”. If you feel a connection to christ you don’t need a magazine to glamourize religion. Furthermore,I’ve read the magazine and feel like it’s real purpose is to make girls feel like they’re getting all the gossip while really just trying to instill “virtuos” qualities. Let girls find religion on their own. Nobody should try to change it to fit other interests.

  4. Well to you Kate Howard…I think this magazine is a great idea. And to argue your statement about conforming to fit into a girls religion…well i highly doubt a nun would read this magazine because i nun has different interests that can link into her faith and teaches the nun how to be better in her own way. So therefore i feel that this magazine brings christianity and the bible into a different light, but not changing and pushing girls to be something they are not. who says a girl HAS to buy it, she can either spend her money on the magazine or simply on a candy bar.

  5. Well, Kate, i just gotta say…the way things our going today in our world, this is a nice step up from the magazines that gals are reading today. and i’m not saying that because our world is going downhill, we should conform to their ways. but, i beileve the revolve ppl are doing a good thing…girls like beauty tips, girls like to know that guys don’t like it when they flaunt their bodies, girls like to know that they are priceless and special to God even when they are just completely themselves…in todays world, girls need that more than ever. you have to admit that their self-esteem is not what it should be. revolve helps these girls see who they really are, special priceless jewels, and they always will be.

  6. There is much to be learned from reading about Jesus, providing one does not give up their ability to think for themselves.

  7. This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. If you weren’t going to read the bible in the first place, there is no reason to read it now. And there is no way reading the bible is going to made more fun in any way. The things on the side just distract you from actually reading the bible. How are you reading it when you’re doing quizzes and learning new beauty tips?

  8. Well I think the magazine is a great idea because it is packed with fun stuff to do and it is very educational. Alyssa, it can be fun to read it as opposed to the Bible beacause when you are reading the Bible you just read straight through the chapter. When you read the magazine you can stop here or there to get some Q and As or here what guys want in a girl. I am not being anti-Bible cuz once I was reading a story in Ruth and I got so absorbed I forgot I was even reading the Bible. We are just saying that Revolve makes reading the Bible a little less dull and a little more interesting.

  9. Well, the way i see it is that no body can say whether or not this bible is a good idea. On one hand, it helps teen girl’s to begin to read and understand the word of God, but on the other hand it seems completely contradictory of the morals taught by the bible about inner beauty. It teaches you how to apply makeup and how to pluck your eyebrows which are all things that should seemingly be seperated from enhancing your religion. but let’s face it, we all wear makeup, alot of us pluck our eyebrows, and most of us will certainly have a boyfriend before we get married, so it is better that we atleast learn about these things from a different point of view than the standard magazine. They tie in these things that we do with the seemingly old and serious stories of God. So, if it is contradictory to put makeup tips in the bible, then is it contradictory to wear makeup to church? is it contradictory to say that we’re good christians when we wear bakinis and low cut jeans or wear makeup and straighten out hair? why not tie in religion with things that all of us teenage girls truly care about and do everyday?

  10. I believe each girl should pray and see what God says best for her. Just like He doesn’t have the same path for each of us, although similar, maybe He intends for one girl to have the word presented in one way and then in another similar way to another girl. As long as it is prayed about and God’s will is being seeked, He will draw near to you. You just need to find what it is He wants for you, whether it involves learning to pluck your eyebrows and how to treat your neighbor on the same page or not.

  11. Im an atheist, however I do support people’s right to believe in what they want and to choose their own religion. However, when I saw this “magazine” in my friends room, I couldnt believe it. This “magazine” only says two things about religion to me:

1)That religion is just another corporation set out to steal money from the poor and faithful and give it to greedy, non-tax paying conservatives and

2)That the followers of this religion realize that the “REAL” bible is way too boring and long for “mindless” teenagers to read and a magazine had to be made to help kids keep their faith in their religion using flashy colors and pictures.

Religion is not fun and games. It is a serious commitment one must make and follow through with for the rest of their lives. It is as if contemporary american politics was put into a magazine with flashy colors, every kid would want to be a conservative republican. The point I am making is that religion is a choice that each individual person must make. If they choose to follow that path, then they must take it seriously and it must be THEIR OWN decision. Its time that we let people make up their own minds without magazines that make religion look fun. I mean, if you want to follow a religion, do it for yourself. Not because this particular religion has the flashiest “magazine”.
