Book challenges Church of England gay clergy ban

Should the Church of England consider the ordination of homosexual bishops and overturn its ban on gay leadership?

bq.. Church of England liberals are to intensify the debate over homosexuality at the General Synod next month by circulating a book by Canon Jeffrey John to promote their cause.

Every member of the Synod is being sent a copy of Permanent, Faithful, Stable, which makes a powerful argument for overturning the Church’s ban on the ordination of active homosexual clergy.

It is being endorsed by the Bishop of Salisbury, the Rt Rev David Stancliffe, who is president of Affirming Catholicism, the liberal pressure group of which Canon John and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, are founder members.

In an accompanying letter, the bishop and other senior members of the group say that the book is being distributed “in the prayerful hope that it will assist you in your deliberations”.

  1. If you don’t believe in the word of god (meaning every word of the bible!) you might as well close the doors of your church and be athiast.
