Synopsis of Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ”

A depiction of the last twelve hours in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, on the day of his crucifixion in Jerusalem.

The story opens in the Garden of Olives where Jesus has gone to pray after the Last Supper. Betrayed by Judas Iscariot, the controversial Jesus–who has performed ‘miracles’ and has publicly announced that he is ‘the Son of God’–is arrested and taken back within the city walls of Jerusalem. There, the leaders of the Pharisees confront him with accusations of blasphemy; subsequently, his trial results with the leaders condemning him to his death.

Jesus is brought before Pontius Pilate, the Roman Governor of Palestine, for his sentencing. Pilate listens to the accusations leveled at Jesus by the Pharisees. Realizing that his own decision will cause him to become embroiled in a political conflict, Pilate defers to King Herod in deciding the matter of how to persecute Jesus. However, Herod returns Jesus to Pilate who, in turn, gives the crowd a choice between which prisoner they would rather to see set free–Jesus, or Barrabas. The crowd chooses to have Barrabas set free. Thus, Jesus is handed over to the Roman soldiers and is brutally flagellated.

Bloody and unrecognizable, he is brought back before Pilate who, once again, presents him to the thirsty crowd–assuming they will see that Jesus has been punished enough. The crowd, however, is not satisfied. Thus, Pilate washes his hands of the entire dilemma, ordering his men to do as the crowd wishes. Whipped and weakened, Jesus is presented with the cross and is ordered to carry it through the streets of Jerusalem, all the way up to Golgotha. There, more corporal cruelty takes place as Jesus is nailed to the cross–suffering, he hangs there, left to die.

Initially, in his dazed suffering, Jesus is alarmed that he has been abandoned by God his father. Eventually, he overcomes his fear and with his last breaths, tells Mary, his Mother, It is accomplished. He then beseeches God, Into Thy hands I command my spirit. At the moment of his death, nature itself over-turns.

  1. Whether this is from the Lord or not, I cannot say for sure, but it came to me today that THE PASSION had to be done by someone whose work would draw attention and who was outside of the traditional Christian community. Why? Because God Himself wants this films to touch America, and perhaps even a good portion of the world. Why? Because the end times are upon us and the return of Jesus Christ, as prophesied in the Bible, is very near. The film is one of many ways God is using to draw many to Himself as He prepares for the endtime harvest of souls, as is also spoken of in Scripture. I have not seen the film, but I am very much looking forward to it — primary because it is in my heart that this may be one of the last opportunities many will have to secure their eternal state will be with God. My prayer is that God will bless this film, that He will touch the heart the hearts of those who see it (including mine), and that Mel Gibson himself will not only be blessed, but that he and his family will have an ever increating intimate relationship with the God and Christ Mel has undertaken to portray. I have heard that some have said this is the greatest film they have ever seen (even in its rough, unfinished form) and others have said that they fell in love with Jesus all over again, maybe even for the first time. My prayer for my self and for all who see the film who are truly seekers of God and truth will be impacted in the same way. One last thing I might say is that the Bible says that the nations were gathered together agains the God and His Christ. The Romans, who were in govermental rule in that day were responsible, as were the Jews of the day, too. The death of Christ was a conspiracy that both secular and religious leaders were involved in. However, when we reject the testimony of the Word of God concerning Jesus’ death for our sins, his burial, and His resurrection from the dead, we in effect are rejecting him, too, just as those Gentiles and Jews who sentensed him to the cross were responsible for his death. I might add one last thing, Jesus ultimately was responsible for his own death, for he could have saved himself. In fact, he said that no man took his life from him, but that he laid it down willingly. This he did for me and for all (including you who are reading these words). Allan W.

  2. Mel, don’t change the story line. Tell it like it happened. You will never be able to please man. If you change it, man will still be unhappy about something. Please God, tell the truth. At the end of the day, His applause is the only one that matters.

  3. I am very eager to see the upcoming movie “The Passions of Christ” I think that Mel Gibson is a powerful man of God, and that by creating this movie, with help from the Holy Spirit, he is going to be used in many more mighty ways and the blessings are not going to stop flowing for him and his family. Praise God. I have long sinced desired to meet Mel Gibson and I have tried to find ways to meet him. If there is any way that whoever reads this, can contact Mel for me, and he is willing to respond, my email address’ are:

dekar8832@hotmail.com or dekar8832@praize.com God bless you all, and I hope to recieve emails from you in the future. Love you all!

    Sincerely,

    Christian G.

  4. God has spoken in His Word, the completeness of man’s sin, salvation and sanctification through Christ. Mr. Gibson, you have done man the greatest service by showing the TRUTH of God’s inspired word. It is my hope and prayer, that as we sit on the brink of His return, that many will get the message through your brillient work. I have been involved with local Passion Plays and have seen the power that the Story can bring to individuals. If you want to go somewhere where no one will bother you, as stated in your interview on ABC, come to Iowa and look me up, brother in Crist.

  5. Mel,

Please DO NOT delete any scenes of Jesus’ torment and crucifiction. I am a strong supporter and lover of the Jewish people – after all, Jesus was a Jew and they are his chosen people. The Jewish community avoids Isaiah 53 due to its proving that Jesus is the Messiah, and in verse 5 it describes his torture. I believe they want this taken out as it will help prove the case for Christ. Please do not cave in to pressure from the Hollywood elite and anti-Christ Jewish leaders (most of whom are non-practicing Jews by-the-way) by taking out the TRUTH. Remember “The Truth Will Set You Free”? Too often we sacrifice Truth for the sake of being politically correct. Will the next step be to be kind to Hitler so that we don’t upset the German community? This is absurd. Be bold and stand by the Truth of the Word! How many sacrifices to your art and love will you make just because the vocal minority threaten you? The majority of us in the Christian community, who you have gained support from, embrace this film as it was intended. Remenber, the German community didn’t make Spielberg edit Schindler’s List because it made them look bad. The Truth will set you Free.

  6. Do not compromise your faith. Tell it how it was, not how someone wants it to be.

  7. No deletions!

Tell it like it is, as close to the truth as possible.

What else are you going to delete, that Christ was actually crucified?

    Robert

  8. In His words…

“The fruits of My loving hand will save the world when they turn to Me for mercy and love. I have the power to unite the world in peace through the love of Me in their hearts. But first they must each turn to Me. This is why the conversion of souls is necessary before a lasting peace can come. Know the Word of God – speak it and speak My name often. Through the sound of My name many will be healed.”

Mel Gibson – you already know in your heart that the “Passion of the Christ” will impact many in the world significantly. Through this media, the message of the Gospels will reach many in the world and subsequently there will be a great conversion of souls. Of course, the movie and message will meet with great resistance. It is because the impact of the message will lead to the salvation of many souls. The principalities and powers of darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places will resist fiercely but…

“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee; when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” Isaiah 43:2

This movie is for all of us. Please – no deletions that would diminish the truth. Don’t be afraid. Remember the courage of our Precious Savior. The true Giver of this film is much greater than the resistance. “For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.” – Proverbs 3:26

Great will be the graces of healing that will come to many of the hearts that see this film.

Grace, peace and confidence of the Christ Jesus be with you. May the hand of God protect you and the Holy Spirit guide your decisions as you bring this divine message to a world that is in great need of hope, love and peace.

    Debra Siegel

  9. TELL IT LIKE IT IS! Don’t cave! Don’t delete the “controversial” scenes!! Jesus ALWAYS creates controversy!!!

  10. ‘Will the next step be to be kind to Hitler so that we don’t upset the German community? This is absurd’…’Remenber, the German community didn’t make Spielberg edit Schindler’s List because it made them look bad.’ – Mark

As far as I’m aware, Germans wern’t/aren’t persecuted and murdered for their nationality.

First they came for the Jews

and I did not speak out

because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the Communists

and I did not speak out

because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists

and I did not speak out

because I was not a trade unionist.

    Then they came for me

and there was no one left

    to speak out for me.’

  11. Dear Mel,

It’s about time. I’ve been waiting for someone to make a real movie about Jesus.

  12. Truly this is from Our Lord. Why do so many try to stop this from happening?

Pray that Mel holds strong through his traditional Christian Catholic faith.

For, “Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs in the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you {falsely} because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.” Matthew 5:10-12.

Pray for Mel and pray that all who experience this movie will open their hearts to God’s Divine Love and Mercy.

    Amen.

  13. Mel,

I just watched your interview with Diane Sawyer. Thank you for sticking to the truth. I imagine you are going through many trials emotionally and spiritually right now, but stay strong.

It’s amazing that there is so much controversy from a movie based on the truth when it comes to concern over the Jewish faith, but endless fictional movies and shows can be produced depicting Catholic Priests and Nuns as evil or bad people and nobody in the press or on TV raises an eyebrow?

Stick to your guns on this one Mel, there are a lot of people thanking you for bringing this “story” to the forefront of our society when we really need it. Thanks!

  14. Mel Gibson,

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for desiding to make this film. I know that you are taking a lot of criticism for it. For instance, people are thinking you made this movie to criticize the jews, which I do not believe. I believe you made this movie to touch the heart and inspire others to have a stronger faith. This world is a crazy place. A large population of this world does not have as strong of faith as they should. I think of you as a strong, bright, and loving person to do this, no matter the consequences, to reach to others to save them spirtually. I also believe you are the perfect person to make this film because you have a lot of fame and this makes people listen. So again I thank you! You are doing the right thing. And remember, even though people are criticizing you because of the movie there are even more favoring it. God Bless You.

  15. Thank you for allowing the Lord to use you as he has. The Lord has truley revealed himself to you, and we pray and believe that he will continue to use you to spread his word, the true meaning of eteranal love, life, and everlasting peace. You yourself have changed by the power of the Holy Gohst, in your mannerisms, the light of the Lord shines upon you. Once again thank you for allowing youself to be a witness for the Lord. He truley is GOOD!!! We pray for you, and you family that the lord will anoint you, and give you the words to say. We love you and your family… GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!

  16. I am very much looking forward to seeing the movie and bringing my husband and four children. I am overjoyed to see that the media has used its power and influence to make a movie such as this. We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded with everything that goes against the teachings of the bible. Our number 1 sitcom “Friends” is a very good example of how immorality is gently promoted. The evil and immorality that surround us has been crafty and intelligent in order to embrace many. The television and media have become the devil. My thanks to Mel Gibson for having the courage to to do a movie that goes against everything the world now stands for.

    Linda

  17. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! Thank you, thank you thank you!!!! Thank you for standing up against all of this criticism to make sure that this movie shows what Jesus truly did for us. It is going to be AWSOME to have a movie that is so real in the way it depics Jesus’ passion. You’ll never know how much this means to me and all the christian people out there who feel your pain everytime something negative is said.

    THANK YOU and GOD BLESS!!!!!

    God ROCKS!!!!!

  18. I’m a senior at a Christian high school. Today in the mail my family got our “weekly” issue of Newsweek. A picture from the movie graced the cover & I was sooo excited because it was teh first time I had actually seen something about it rather than just hearing from others. I read the article & I think everything about it is absolutely amazing. It seemed as though the writer was focusing a lot on negative things about it & the things about the movie that ticked others off, but I say forget that! How can you find fault in Mel Gibson following his heart & doing this amazing work for God. I think he couldn’t have picked a better time to do it & I have sooo much love for the man. I may not know him personally but I honestly can say I have soo much respect & love for Mel Gibson for sacrificing all he has for the works of God…it’s amazing. Although I sit here & complain about the negative everyone is saying but on the same note…..I’d rather people be saying negative things rather that nothing at all. This work deserves to be talked about. It needs to be public. I think it’s awesome!! Keep it up!

  19. Mel -

Don’t change anything! I can’t wait until this movie comes out in a few weeks. We ALL put Jesus on that cross because we are sinners. I hope you are greatly blessed through this.

Look out world. The truth is sometimes not easy to believe.

  20. Hi! I just wanted to comment on the Passion. I have not yet seen it, but I did see Mel’s interview with Diane and believe he did an outstanding job letting them know that we all were responsible for Jesus’ sacrifice. Although, I would have loved to have heard him say you must believe in the Christ and accept His sacrifice to enter Heaven, since that is also what the Bible states! All-in-all, my family is definitely rooting for Mel and the movie. I think 2Corinthians 4:6-18 would be very encouraging to Mel and his family right now, and also to remember that Christ is his main audience, the only one he truely has to please!

  21. Mel, My husband and I watched the interview last night with yourself and Diane Sawyer and were truly blessed for your “stand” for Christ and your passion for making this movie. During a time when the world is in such evil turmoil, this is truly a spiritual “uplift” for everyone! Thank you for your testimony. We are encouraging our church membership to see this film and can’t wait to view this wonderful true story of Christ.

  22. I think that this is how you eamil Mel Gibson. Im just a kid but I really care about this stuff.

I REALLY want him to know that I think its so cool that he would go against what hollywood does and make a film about Jesus! I am sorry that all those poeple are giving him dirt for all he is doing. I think that this film is going to lead alot of poeple to Christ! Just wanted to tell him that… He always plays in great movies where he plays a noble character. He is going to be rewarded in heaven.

  23. Mel-

I think You are doing an awesome job! I am a beleiver, and I just wanted you to know that God will definetly bless you for this. I admire you for being “a light in the darkness”

(Matthew 5:5,14-16) Continue the good work, and know that many support you!!

    Shalom!

    -Rachael

  24. Dear Mel,

The fact that there is so much criticism related to the realism of your film is a sign that the AntiChrist has started fussing again.

I myself am a very correct, sincere and people-loving person, a stong believer in the mankind’s harmony, but I am regretfully finding that, while fighting against the evils in the world, we too often forget to mention the communism. When shall we have a barbarian communists hunter as well, since a Nazi hunter already exists?

  25. Mel:

I watched your interview with Diane Sawyer last night on channel 15 ABC. I was even given a chance like many others to call their information line and give an opinion as to what we viewers thought of your intervies. My comments were

” Mel Gibson has made a movie about the Lord Jesus Christ that is I believe the most powerful movie about Christians since the 10 commandments with Charleston Heston”. We Christians have a knowledge that the world does not want to hear. We are blessed who have accepted the Lord Jesus as our personal savior, and I believe that Your movie will not only draw critizism from the world (unbelievers) but will also take the message to the world. We are praying for you and your family God Bless You

  26. These people who keep hollering “Anti-semite” are sooooooooooooooooooooo wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU ARE IN GOD’S WILL….don’t ever believe otherwise.

No living person Jewish person today is responsible for Jesus’s death….and that was GOD’s will too, for our salvation.

Stay strong….most people have better sense that those loud mouths that can’t see yesterday’s people from today’s and God’s plan for all of us…ALL of us and He ment his Children in Isreal too :-)

You seem to exemplyfy the best of men…as a father and a husband…too bad God only made one of you!!! I need one like you too…

Thank you and God bless you and your beautiful family.

    hugs,

    Kate

  27. To Mel Gibson….

Thank you from the bottom of my Heart.

God please forgive me for I am a sinner – for without you there is nothing.

My prayer everyday after I thank him for the Gift of a New Day.

    Remember God Loves us all!

  28. Mr. Gibson:

Your past is a reflection of mine. Alcohol, drugs, suicide. I was the extremist that you spoke of in your interview.

God did speak this movie to you. Thank you for being obedient to Him and doing what is right. I wish there was a way to tell you more about me. We will talk in Paradise, forever.

Jesus gave me a Revelation I have never shared with anyone. I would Welcome the opportunity to share it with you.

Looking forward to feeling your new movie!

    Don Sutton-Portland Oregon

  29. Mel, I am greatly anticipating the opening of your movie ” The Passion”. In a world were so many hollywood stars have embraced many popular false religions, you have embraced the TRUTH of CHRIST. Mel, you know that you have an obligation to the Lord. Because of your position in hollywood the Lord can use your movie to reach many people.

I am hoping that your movie is well written and stays true to scripture. You must not delete any scenes or dialogue that are in the Bible to appease those who oppose the TRUTH.

JESUS when he came to the earth was not afraid to speak and was not here to appease people’s feelings or fearful of offending anybody. THE TRUTH IS THE TRUTH And HE spoke and still speaks it.he was oppressed for speaking the truth but that was his mission.

matthew chapter 27 verse 25 reads, ” And all the people answered, ‘Let his blood be on us and on our children!’ ” if your movie’s dialogue and scene fits the bible verse you must not delete the scene. BUT if it deviates from it and its context then you must not put in your movie what is not in the scripture.

may the LORD guide you and use your work Mel.

    yours truly, Mike

  30. Mr. Gibson, tell the story like it is. I hope people understand it is sin God is against, not Jews or any race. Just like too many people have the unfortunate misconception that God sends people to hell, instead of understanding their sin is what sends them, not God, the same way people may view an accurate depiction of Jesus dying at the hands of Jews as against the Jews.

    Tell it like it is.

  31. As Dennis Prager and Mike Medved haved conveyed, this film is an appropriate depiction of history. In addition, to hell with Hollywood and the “sensitive groups” who are offended. Remember, this film is a learning tool, not a condemnation of the Jews, rather man himself. Anyone in the seculiar world will not understand this message. God Bless and good luck Mr. Gibson.

    Troy Allen

  32. This is an awesome story of the life of Jesus Christ. I am a student at Anderson College and I am a born again Christian. I am so excited for the work that God is going to be doing through this film. Thanks Mel, for standing up for what you believe in and letting God work through you. There are so many people that are putting you down and persecuting you, but God knows your heart. We need to keep praying for Mel and to let him know that we are behind him in this. God is going to work in awesome ways, this is the story of Jesus!

  33. Mel…it is SO refreshing to FINALLY see an actor from Hollywood who is not ashamed to profess Jesus as Lord! CONGRATULATIONS for taking a stand in this world against evil and reaching out to those who are lost in sin. You will truly have many stars in your crown one day in heaven when those who come to Jesus through this film will be there to say, “Thank You!” for giving to the Lord! Keep up the good work, and continue to allow God to work in and through your life. You’ll never be sorry! God bless!

  34. I’m trying to send Mel Gibson a letter telling him how much I admire him and I don’t have an address. If you could send me an email address or physcial address it would be a huge help

  35. Please pray daily for Mel Gibson, his family, and everyone associated with the making of The Passion.

  36. Dear Mr. Gibson,

Do not draw weary or troubled at heart. We live in a world that wants only self-reliance. They are ignorant and hate the thought that they need someone. Or that someone loves them and died for them, for that matter. The world is satan’s kingdom….he does NOT want people to see this film. He does not want people’s lives to be radically changed, nor does he want their eyes to be opened to the TRUTH.

I live on a college campus and through Campus Crusade for Christ ministries hundreds and hundreds of college students across the country, if not the world, are going to be getting free tickets to see this film. Many of them will be non-Christians…..well Mr. Gibson; you are doing a GREAT thing for the mission that God put forth before us (to bring others into the body of Christ). This film will turn their lives upside-down, inside-out, blow their socks off and open their eyes to the TRUTH.

So again I say to you be strong dear brother, for there are angels rejoicing in heaven for this incredible evangelizing tool. And without a doubt, our heavenly Father is going to be saying to you, when the end of your life draws to a close, “Well done my faithful servent!”

    Sincerely and most affectionately yours,

    David

  37. Mr Gibson, i do not know whether it matters to you, but i am really proud of you and of what you did and i really wish that i could do something like or at least a fraction of what you did. i am sure you are enjoying the sweetness of life as a true christian. Hey even if your movie is banned i would be happy to distribute it, even if it is illegal and even if i have to do it on my own expenses. God Bless you.

  38. I AM SO GLAD SOMEONE IS MAKING A MOVIE ABOUT JESUS’S CRUSIFIXION,AND WHAT HE WENT THROUGH FOR ALL OF US.I DONT CARE WHAT PEOPLE SAY.I ADMIRE WHAT MEL GIBSON HAS DONE. I PRAY THAT GOD WILL USE THIS FILM TO REACH MILLIONS OF PEOPLE.AND THAT MILLIONS WILL BE SAVED. I BELEIVE THAT WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE RETURN OF CHRIST TO TAKE US HOME.AND I BELIEVE THAT GOD IS USING THIS AS A LAST EFFORT TO SAVE MANY. HIS WAYS ARE PERFECT!! I CAN SEE GOD’S HAND IN THIS MOVIE.REMEMBER WHEN GOD HARDENED PHAROAH’S HEART TO ACCOMPLISH HIS WILL.I BELIEVE THAT GOD IS ALLOWING THE RUMOR OF “ANTI-SEMITISIM TO DRAW PEOPLE TO SEE THIS MOVIE.PRAISE GOD,FOR THIS MOVIE…

  39. Mr. Gibson,

I saw your interview last night with Diane Sawyer and just wanted to say I was very pleased that you stood firm and did not back away from any questions. Your comment “It is what it is.” was perfect. I’ve been waiting for someone to depict this as truthfully as possible. Good job! I’m looking forward to seeing this movie.

  40. Dear Mel -

My wife and I watched the Diane Sawyer interview Monday evening. We both believe strongly that the Lord must be pleased, not only with the movie, but with your faithfulness to the TRUTH.

More than four dozen major predictions from the Old Testament point to Jesus as The Christ – Isaiah revealed the manner of the Messiah’s birth (of a virgin); Micah pinpointed the place of His birth (Bethlehem); Genesis and Jeremiah specified His ancestry (a descendent of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, from the tribe of Judah, the house of David); the Psalms fortold His betrayal, His accusation by false witnesses, His manner of death (pierced in the hands and feet, eventhough crucifixion had not been invented yet), and His resurrection (He would not decay but would ascend on high); and on and on.

Surely the criticism you and the movie are receiving pains you. It would pain anyone. Consider, however, the source of most of that criticism and remember this…

… dogs do not bark at parked cars.

    You are in our prayers.

  41. Mr. Gibson, if by some means someone who knows you or of you or the Holy Spirit himself were to lead you to this comment, then we shall both certainly know the Lord Jesus intended for you to read it and consider it a message from he to you, I would just be the sender or mediator, that is if you find this. My brother in Christ, when I was watching your interview with Diane Sawyer, I truly believe by faith the Holy Spirit revealed to my heart a message you are suppose to receive. if you truly find this email, we both, by faith, will know it is true. If you were to make a public broadcast addressing all faiths and nations and say, ” Whether it be Romans or Jewish or Sanhedrin who actually went through the physical movements of crucifying Christ, there is no way “The Passion of Christ” will inflame any anti-sentiment feelings for the following reason” The Lord God allowed those in authority at the time he pre-chose to be crucified to beat him, torture him and crucify him because this was God’s plan for his “son” and his love gift to mankind. The Lord even explained to his apostles that ” he could summon a legion of angels” to protect him if he did not choose to let this happen to him. Mr. Gibson, if you explain on the public airwaves if the Vikings, Moors, or whoever had been reigning faction or government at the time God chose to make sacrifice of himself, it would not have mattered because they would have been doing God’s will by crucifying him even though they thought it was their desire and their will to do this. God had pre-planned all this and even satan himself did not see the implications and the end result of his crucifiction and what a great victory for God it truly was. The point, tell everyone publicly that this film cannot fuel any anti-sementic feelings as this event was God’s will, not the will of the Romans, Jews or whoever may have been in charge at the time. I hope this may help to have this film seen by many unsaved souls and if it’s our Lord’s will, you may find this email. Your brother in Christ, David

  42. I remeber Chuck Smith making the comment one time that since we as Cristians are Son’s & daughter’s of God, this makes Jesus our brother. If Jesus is are brother then this means we are Jew’s. So how can Mel Gibson’s movie Passion of Christ be Anti-Semitic ? Mel is a Jew like the rest of us !!!!

  43. I want to applaud you Mr. Gisson, for standing up for God and the truth! Knowing people will ridicule and reject you and still minister in such a way that millions will hear of this Jesus, who so many reject, is such an awsome outreach. This is exactly what so many poeople in the world need to see so they could fully understand the sacrifice that was made so that we would have a chance to live in eternity with our creator. It is an awsome thing that when you think of your testimony and that God would give you your fame so you would someday use it to reach out and minister to the lost and the backsliders. Oh what a crown you will have in heaven. YOU ARE MAKING SUCH A SACRIFICE that will be honored by God. I know that your depiction of what happened is so accurate and people who do not accept the truth, well that is between them and God. You have done your job by descipling with this movie, you have planted the seed, and what they do with it is not up to anyone but them. I am Pentacostal and I stongly believe in Jesus and that there will be a great move of God because of your film. We are praying for you here. I know that there are many thing that have come against you but “IF God be for you, who could be against you?” I believe that God has annointed this project. You should always give your best when it comes to God! You did your very best when it was your fame, and your fortune and you were making secular films. Everything we do is supposed to edify God’s kingdom and I believe you are doing that! So THANK YOU for reaching out to the world and opening peoples eyes to the TRUTH. I know God is pleased that you have used your talents to edify his kingdom! Like I said there are Many of us here in our church praying for God to keep his hedge of protection over you, your family and everyone else involved in the film. I wish there was a way for you to come visit our church and speak to our youth but I understand why you wouldnt be able to. Well May God Bless You and keep all of you and we will continue to pray. “One day EVERY tongue will confess and EVERY knee will bow” so whether they do it by choice now and accept the truth one day they will have to!One day we will be rejoicing and praising our creator in heaven together and what an awsone day it will be!!!!!! THANK YOU AGAIN

  44. Thank god for your willingness to stand for Biblical truth, Mel. May the richness of God’s mercy and peace consume your life. >

  45. Dear Mel and all,

One question — if one wants to be of service to the Word of God, why not a movie about the Sermon of the Mount — or is the Passion of Christ all that we remember? If that’s the case, then we are all lost.

  46. Probably the most anticipated and talked about film in recent history. First I am looking forward to seeing this film greatly. Second thank you Mr. Gibson for using millions of your own dollars to tell the story of Jesus honestly and factualy. Also thank you for being an outspoken Christian which in these times seems to be so shunned upon. This movie has the power to do wonderful things to peoples faith and hopefully it will touch peoples lives in a profound manner.

  47. Mel,

TRUTH generates CONTROVERSY. Keep your head up. ;) I just watched your interview with Diane Sawyer and was extremely impressed. You represented yourself, and Christians everywhere, extremely well. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Thank you for using your fame and position for Jesus Christ. It’s about time someone did. God bless.

    Meredith

  48. Mel Gibson: I support your willingness to be used by our Lord and Savior! Thank you for reaching those who have been unreached thus far.

  49. If this film does not portray the Resurrection, it will do little for the cause of Jesus, The Son of God.

None can miss that Christ gave his life on the Cross to Pay the penalty of Our sins. But, many sadly miss: it’s His Resurrection that gives us his New Life. Read and understand. The true message is the resurrection. The Cross was Necessary, but means nothing without the resurrection. (Quoted from the New Living Translation)

    1 Corinthians 15:1-34

    _The Resurrection of Christ_

    1. Now let me remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then and still do now, for your faith is built on this wonderful message. 2. And it is this Good News that saves you if you firmly believe it–unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.

    3. I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me–that Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, as the Scriptures said. 5. He was seen by Peter and then by the twelve apostles. 6. After that, he was seen by more than five hundred of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died by now. 7. Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. 8. Last of all, I saw him, too, long after the others, as though I had been born at the wrong time. 9. For I am the least of all the apostles, and I am not worthy to be called an apostle after the way I persecuted the church of God.

    10. But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me–and not without results. For I have worked harder than all the other apostles, yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace. 11. So it makes no difference whether I preach or they preach. The important thing is that you believed what we preached to you.

    _The Resurrection of the Dead_

    12. But tell me this–since we preach that Christ rose from the dead, why are some of you saying there will be no resurrection of the dead? 13. For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised either. 14. And if Christ was not raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your trust in God is useless. 15. And we apostles would all be lying about God, for we have said that God raised Christ from the grave, but that can’t be true if there is no resurrection of the dead. 16. If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised. 17. And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless, and you are still under condemnation for your sins. 18. In that case, all who have died believing in Christ have perished! 19. And if we have hope in Christ only for this life, we are the most miserable people in the world.

    20. But the fact is that Christ has been raised from the dead. He has become the first of a great harvest of those who will be raised to life again.

    21. So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, Adam, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man, Christ. 22. Everyone dies because all of us are related to Adam, the first man. But all who are related to Christ, the other man, will be given new life. 23. But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised first; then when Christ comes back, all his people will be raised.

    24. After that the end will come, when he will turn the Kingdom over to God the Father, having put down all enemies of every kind. 25. For Christ must reign until he humbles all his enemies beneath his feet. 26. And the last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27. For the Scriptures say, “God has given him authority over all things.” (Of course, when it says “authority over all things,” it does not include God himself, who gave Christ his authority.) 28. Then, when he has conquered all things, the Son will present himself to God, so that God, who gave his Son authority over all things, will be utterly supreme over everything everywhere.

    29. If the dead will not be raised, then what point is there in people being baptized for those who are dead? Why do it unless the dead will someday rise again?

    30. And why should we ourselves be continually risking our lives, facing death hour by hour? 31. For I swear, dear brothers and sisters, I face death daily. This is as certain as my pride in what the Lord Jesus Christ has done in you. 32. And what value was there in fighting wild beasts–those men of Ephesus –if there will be no resurrection from the dead? If there is no resurrection, “Let’s feast and get drunk, for tomorrow we die!”

    33. Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character.” 34. Come to your senses and stop sinning. For to your shame I say that some of you don’t even know God.”

Now think about this, a film that does not mention the resurrection of Christ is as useless as no film at all. And I have not heard anyone say, when talking about this film, that the resurrection is the most important event in the life of Christ.

Most emphasize His death, when it His life that should be.

All it makes us fell is guilty for Christs’ death, when He didn’t want us to feel that at all. He wanted us to Know about the Life in Him and the Power and Promise of the resurrection.

This insight will set you free.

  50. Mel, You go man. I have waited for this movie since 1999. The fact that he was God in the flesh is not a question for me. The fact that I have sat and wailed for his many stripes, and wounds. I Pray that the Lords love cover this world like a blanket. If the world is not against you, you are not of God it seems to me these days. I wish there would be a dubbed version for those of us who can’t see to or read, or to lazy to read. I passed you off as a pretty boy I must admit I missed the mark completely.

    No Other Love,

    Richard

  51. Though i hestitate to send an email that could result in some unwanted flood of mail to me, still i feel the desire to communicate to Mel Gibson simply that i am proud of you, my brother in Christ, for this sacrifice, for following the call of God on your life after all you experienced in your life, to complete a work on the screen that will undoubtedly impact lives for Christ everywhere around the globe. I realize on one hand that my message of encouragement to you comes from someone with no fame or notoriety, and one might presume that such a famous person as Mel Gibson would consider such praise as irrelevant; however, i also believe that since you are a fellow believer in Christ, you will accept my thanks and admiration for what I feel in my heart for you as a brother in Christ, Mel.

I just now got to watch your interview with Diane Sawyer a day late. My husband and I got rid of TV about three years ago now, so i see little on TV. But this I had to see…from Mel’s own lips. In the process of trying to find your interview last week, other interviews from Diane Sawyer got taped. I viewed the one where she interviewed a homosexual male couple who have surrogated five children between them, yet in the process, aborted one “to save the other four” in the first pregnancy. This after they claim to have prayed for a family. I was so saddened by Diane Sawyer’s interview, of the way that sin is presented with no realization that it even exists. I felt then that Diane Sawyer needs to hear of Christ’s messsage of salvation, as her eyes are blinded to the truth (as with most in Hollywood I presume). Then along comes your interview. I am sure, that in the process of being interviewed, hours of dialogue were shared with Mel and Diane. Perhaps Diane will leave that interview with more than her latest controversy. I pray that Mel Gibson’s movie blesses the hearts of unbelievers and believers alike, far and wide, for the cause of the gospel. Christ’s sacrifice is being shared in the corners of the world already with movies like the JESUS film, and Mel’s movie is a no-holds barred look at what Jesus truly gave for the redemption of souls. Once someone sees this film, it will be up to him or her to be accountable to what they viewed. While I hestitate to project such assurance that end times are upon us (that this could occur in my lifetime is somehow still surreal, though i welcome it at any moment!), I truly feel this film by Mel Gibson is a surging attempt from God to reach the unsaved.

In an age where lurid, graphic, violent scenes bombard us every day on film and on TV, something as honest and historical as this portrayal of the Passion of Christ is being scoffed at. Interviewers and columnists are doing their best to discredit Mel Gibson in their attempt (whether they know it or not) to discredit Jesus Christ. I pray, Mel, that the Holy Ghost/Spirit continues to hold you up, to give you the words, the patience, in the face of these attacks.

I am also humbled that from such a past as Mel shared with us in his interview, comes such a powerful example of what living for Christ truly means. Like a missionary on the fields of persecution, Mel Gibson is reaching millions. He has used his talents, his abilities, and his fame to reach the masses. May God richly bless you, Mel, for answering his call, for putting yourself on the line to be ridiculed and challenged and baited. You are a testament to the faith. Again, I am proud to count myself a Christian, and i look forward one day to meeting you in God’s kingdom.

  52. Please do not delete a thing from your movie, Passion of Christ. I am fatigued by everyone’s sensibilities. Your interpretation, your vision, your talent is all I want to see. Objective/subjective/reality/morality, for lan’s sakes can’t everyone see this is not a stupid modern political blame game. It is simply what the world needs now, that is, those of us who are floundering, but who care deeply anyway. That is precisely the dicohtomy(sp?) we all face in life. Thank you

  53. Mr. Gibson,

I do not know if you will ever read this but I think that it is good that you have stood up for that which you believe in. There are so many who would try and stop you. Already there are many how would try and change what you would have in the movie, try to take things out and so on. You are doing the right thing and you have the support of all of us Christians out here who feel like you. People need to remember what Christ did. They need to remember, to know exactly what He went through just so that we could be saved. I am thankfull for you and for what God is doing through you.

  54. A real plus – because this film is subtitled, deaf viewers everywhere will be able to enjoy it in any theatre in which it is being shown. They will be able to see it “first run” rather than having to wait for the DVD to come out, and there will be no need to seek out one of the very few theatres that provide closed captioning.

  55. Dear Mel,

I certainly appreciate that there is still someone left who would actually take the steps to show truth. Especially in your industry knowing that you take a chance of all the negatives.

I have prayed for you tonight. I have not yet seen the film but from all I read, I look forward to seeing it in the full context. Too many people have become desensasized to what Jesus actually did for us. HE DIED A BRUTAL DEATH, THAT’S JUST THE PLAIN TRUTH!!!We should not “candy-coat” it like so many people see fit to do with other realities in this country and world for that matter. Maybe viewing a “REAL” look at what Jesus went through for us can be the rude awakening we all need. Thank you for being so courageous and strong in Him that you have taken these steps to fulfill what you said you believe your career led you to. You stated that you believe your career led you to the making of this film. It was an interview with Michael Savage. Unfortunately, our country is all for the smut, violence, and even especially demonic movies and don’t give it a second thought. Usually, the bloodier the better. It baffles me that our country finds the “true blood” offensive. Who are they trying to protect??? Please stand strong, I know you will.

God bless you and your family.

  56. Mel,

I don’t know how else to get a hold of you, but I have been wanting to get a message to you. Please take the time to read this message and I do hope this gets to you, I will keep trying to get this message to you somehow until it does… What you have been given from God, do not change. You may think I am off the wall but before I had even heard of this movie and how you have put so much into this film “The Passion” of the Christ. I was given a message before Christmas and even given stronger on New Years Day I didn’t understand…. here it is ” many will come to know Jesus…those who don’t know him at all will come to know him…those who know him will know more of him….those in the church, of religion will come to know him like never before….” that was given to me and until 2 weeks ago when I recieved a forward from someone on Paul Harvey’s comment I didn’t understand what that message meant. It hit me like a rock, I mean the message and then your movie Mel… the connections….. I believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit and I know the Holy Spirit is moving in many people… WE NEED TO LISTEN TO WHAT IS BEING SAID.. I wanted to THANK YOU for following and believing in what you have done and are doing… God is with you Mel…

thanks for taking time to read this… it is all true on what is written and like the Pope said..”It is what it is” I BELIEVE

  57. Mel,

Keep on keepin’ on brother. See you in heaven.

    Larry 2/19/04

  58. MEL, THANK YOU FOR THE MOVIE. I KNOW THE LORD IS PROUD OF YOU AND I AM ALSO. MAYBE THIS WILL MAKE THE WORLD SOME WHAT BETTER PLACE. EVERYONE PLEASE PRAY! THANKS AGAIN AND GOD BLESS!!! EMILY

    ALABAMA

  59. Hi I am so happy that someone has finally stood up for Christ and did not back down. They have taken Christ out of the schools and out of the courthouses and other public places and I pray that this Movie will be a big hit and that everyone will be changed by what they see. Christ was beaten and nailed to the cross for all of our sins and there is no way around it.I am so thankful that I know Him and that He is a part of my every day life. Mel, I am praying for you and your family that you will be blessed for the stand you have taken. God bless you.

  60. Paulette wrote:

‘They have taken Christ out of the schools and out of the courthouses and other public places’

Who do you mean by “they” ?

  61. Mel, Could you please include the postscript in the oversea releases, I know God would appreciate it !

See “Christ-killers(Christ-killers)”:http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=37218 By Mike Evans for more information

bq.. I can still see the pain in her eyes as she told me of loved ones who were thrown into the ovens of Auschwitz. “The last words many of them heard,” she said, “were ‘Christ-killers.’” Her last words to me that day were, “Christians hate Jews. They believe that we murdered the Son of God. The pope, Billy Graham and Adolf Hitler are all Christians.”

Mr. Gibson was deeply moved and hung his head. He said, “What can I do?” I replied, “Mr. Gibson, put a postscript at the end of the movie so that when it is shown in anti-Semitic countries, it will be difficult for anti-Semites to use this movie for their evil purposes.” I humbly suggested to him that at the end of the movie, he put the following: “During the Roman occupation, one-quarter million Jews were crucified by the Romans, but only One rose from the dead.”

Mel Gibson said excitedly, “This is Good! I needed something anyway, and this is it. I’ll do it. I’ll do it.”

I can’t express the joy to know that this would be the first Passion movie in history to be used as a vehicle to fight, not feed, anti-Semitism.

  62. ALL EXPECTATIONS AND VERBAL JOUSTING ASIDE. MAY GOD BLESS AND CONTINUE HIS WORK, BEIT IN MYSTIRIOUS WAYS OR NOT. BELIEVING IN JESUS CHRIST AS OUR SAVIOR IS SOMETHING THAT MOST PEOPLE MUST SEE TO BELIEVE. THEN, MAYBE THEY CAN BELIEVE THE REST OF THE STORY WITHOUT SEEING. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS TRULY BUSY THESE DAYS AND THE SEEDS HAVE BEEN PLANTED. CHRIST WILL REAP HIS HARVEST. MEL, PLEASE DON’T WAVER ,I WILL PRAY FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AS MANY DAYS AS GOD WILL ALLOW. YOUR BROTHER IN CHRIST KEITH MORRIS

  63. As I see it; some of you seem to be erroneously spinning this debate as: The promotion of Christianity vs The censorship of Christianity.

The controversy is only about the handling of scenes which could malign Jewish people.

    Not the entire film.

Whatever the outcome, this free publicity will ensure our twinkly-eyed Brother Gibson will receive enough million$ to keep him in guns and cigars for an eternity.

‘It is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God (Matt. 19:24)’

  64. Dear Mr.Gibson,

I think that the lord jesus (through your Film) is trying to let the people remember his painand his suffer and most of all his sacrifices for us.

may the lord help you in you life .you have shown such devotion and believes in the lord and for that iam sure that he has saved a place for you in his kingdom .

I also would like to ask you to send me your picture (with beard)if possible, cause iam an artist in mosaek and i would like to send you a gift of your picture with glass art.

    GOD BLESS YOU MEL.

    Sincerely YOurs …Michel Tchirko

  65. Dear Mr.Gibson,

We support your movie and are going tonight to see it. We are so thankful that you have put the film out and withstood such criticism over it. As Christians we understand that this is a spiritual battle and satan would love to put a stop to this movie. We are thankful that you listened to the Holy Spirit to make this movie and are telling everyone to see it. We also hope that you do pursue more Biblically correct stories from the Word of God, since there seems to be a lack of good Christian films out there. You truly have a gift in film and we would love to see you use it to the glory of God. We pray that God blesses and protects you as you speak the truth that can set men free from their sins and have a true relationship with the Father through Jesus.

  66. It’s sad that those who express genuine concern for the affect this may have on Jewish people’s lives; are perceived as spoil sports or cohorts of Satan.

It amuses me that creative works propagated on a grand Hollywood scale, are assumed more significant and Godly that say humbler mediums such as these message boards.

“Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing…And the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.” (Isaiah 40:15;17-18)

  67. I’ve been wondering as of late of this ubiquitous need by the Jewish people to impel their sympathy is far greater than the holocaust itself. I wonder, to which end does the holocaust pertain to the Christ movie and what does anti-semitism have to do with all this hoop-la? I never hear about the Armenian genocide which left more than 4 million dead by the Turks or other less publicized genocides. This omnipresence raises questions as if the Jewish people where saying that only we have suffered at the hands of others as it in return condescends other cultures who they themselves have suffered equivalently. Also, this number of 6 million jews dying at the hands of Nazi Germany is an exaggeration posted by many officials globally due to documentational contradictions. In fact, the number tallies under six million but above the 5 million range which is still horrific that men of evil may perpetuate acts of pure malevolence. Furthermore, it is unfair, unethical, questionable, and duplicitous for Jewish organizations and or officials, to legitimize, prone and importune good incitement about relations fomenting in Israel. My intentions aren’t to blaspheme the Jewish folk, but rather abrogate any argument relating to the defaming of their culture as depicted in the movie. Finally, there has been a noticeable movement around the world of metrosexual individuals who hinder beneficial outcome on a global scale and that leads to more questions…

God Bless you all (no exceptions)

  68. I do not consider myself a Christian.

Last night I saw “The Passion of Christ” It moved me beyond belief. Even to think that man could inflict such pain and violent suffering on another,is unthinkable….Oh,I was fully aware of the Biblical writings but to SEE this portrayed in such stark realism and honesty was almost more than I could take….and it takes a LOT to affect me. I was, simply, moved to tears.

Some in this forum have suggested that the film “blames” the Jews for Killing Christ….whether or not these people were Jewish had nothing to do with his suffering…they were people and equally responsible as those who INFLICTED the terrible pain this man endured.

If Christ were to reveal himself to the world today,I believe the same would occur again. Evil exists in the hearts and minds of man- nowhere else.

  69. I am really happy that the movie The Passion of the Christ was made but there is one question I have so if anyone knows the answer please write me at jamesbondmaster1@hotmail.com please. here is my question why is satan holding a baby and then the baby turns it’s head and it looks evil too what does that represent

  70. As Tom (2/17/04) wrote above, this movie contains little bearing on the true significance of dying on the cross, which was the ensuing Resurrection! I know of those who see Jesus as a hero, like a “legend of the day” now because of this movie, when he is in fact alive today! In fact I find it absolutely incredible they would even bother showing all that violence when it’s been washed away for one (we are instead recrucifying the Lord and putting him up to public disdain when he died on the cross so that it would never have to be done again!) And also because this movie is highly Roman Catholic-influenced.

Take a look at what this New Age compendium has to say about the abomination that is Rome: http://www.cuttingedge.org/articles/rome.html

I can tell you for a fact that this movie is evangelizing the Roman Catholic Doctrine more effectively than it is true Christianity. Why would the pope hail this movie as “it is as it was”? With all the references to Mary and the weakness of Christ on his way up Cavalry, it’s no wonder that Catholicism who pronounces Mary the queen of Heaven are raving about this movie.

Don’t feel like I’m lambasting any of you. I’m alerting you of a great End Time sign that has Satan gathering his forces to deceive the people of God into following a one-religion ecumenical Anti-Christ! Our church is falling more and more toward liberal Christianity. No wonder American churches are expanding so greatly at this time – It’s getting easier and easier to accept what the religion’s about when in fact what’s happening instead is that we’re getting further away from God’s holy word. The Bible is THE only authority by which we should preach, a movie directed by Mel Gibson is bound to catch the attention of nonbelievers, but will it turn them toward the Jesus figure played by Jim Cavaziel(which is in fact flat-out idolatry, breaking the second Commandment) or the one true Jesus found in the Bible?

  71. Drake,

We’re reminded of The Holocaust and African Slavery, partly because these minorities still experience daily prejudice where ever they go in this World.

When was the last time any of us heard an Armenian joke at school or work?

There are people who have met a worse fait that crucifixion; but this doesn’t diminish the importance of Christ’s sacrifice.

    Nor (imo) should it.

Have you any persuasive evidence for your controversial version of The Holocaust death toll?

  72. Hello Mel,

You have created a storm by making The Passion. But whatsoever, it is the truth, the story of the greatest sacrifice. God bless you.

  73. Whoa! Moved audiences to tears eh? That puts _The Passion_ up there with _Bambi_ and _ET_!

    Self-loathers:

I accept *no* responsibility for Christ’s 2004 year old torture/”death”. I try to do the best I can; given the circumstances I’m in.

(Disclaimer: This post is not intended as being Anti-Christian/religion.)

  74. Passion of Christ

    Observations

    · I don’t remember hearing or seeing of a movie dedicated to the 12 hours prior to and including the crucifixion.

    · Jesus suffered two punishments: Roman flogging, which often caused death by itself, and then, of course, the crucifixion.

    · I was amazed at the amount of time spent running Jesus back and forth between different magistrates and religious leaders.

    · The long walk up to Golgotha must have insured that He was half dead before he was nailed to the cross.

    · Flipping the cross over to bend the nails securely must have been excruciating.

    · The black eye startled me: all of us have had a black eye. It seems so real to me.

    · The exposed ribs from the cat of nine tails.

    · The scenes with the devil. It reminds us of the fact that Christ’s battle is with the devil and not with mankind. It is for mankind. Ephesians 6

    · 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

    · The devil was portrayed perfectly as someone who walks among us whispering in our ear, deceiving us, tempting us, convincing us, making us afraid, seeking those he may devour.

    1 Peter 5

7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

    · About the violence in reference to Jesus’ trial and Crucifixion:

o Jr. High and High School ages can profit from this movie, if their parents think their younger Jr. high kids can handle the images. I don’t think we can ask most younger children to understand such terrible sacrifice below that age.

o Some of our children, who struggle with selfishness and anger problems, need to understand the concept that Jesus laid down his life for us; they need to see what He gave up, in humility. They need to see His self-control while being scorned, teased, tortured. He had greater rights than we can imagine, unfathomable power to punish and still NO ONE took His life: He laid it down.

o Jesus voices the above truth, in the movie, with scripture.

o The violence was very dramatic: this IS a movie about a crucifixion. But. Our teenagers see movies a great deal more violent, movies that are gratuitously violent with no message of any sort.

    · Last of all, this movie convicted Dennis (me) even more of the sin that I have and that surrounds me everyday. In the end, though, it shows me, too, how much God loves me and all of mankind and, how very much He wants all to be saved.

  75. Dear Mr. Gibson,

Blessings be with you and yours…I went to see the movie, Passion of Christ last night. I think the actors/actresses alike, were outstanding. The customs were right on target with the time frame of your story.

I thought of our current times, as I watched the guardsmen whip this man, Jesus. There was no remorse, or passion for this man. The spirit of goodness were absent in these men; almost as if they were without souls of their own.

Without apologies….there are many good policemen, government officials alike, but not enough…the beatings reminded me of Amoudou Diallo, the Rodney King beatings that still takes place in the year of 2004, and so many others that we do not hear about.

I think your film represented the human race. No matter what authority position we hold, each of us are responsible for treating the next human with respect.

It is time for all of us to take a look at ourselves. No human deserve to be treated as such.

Thank you for stepping out, and giving this gift to us. Keep pressing with your head up high.

    Blessings,

    Cynthia G./New Jersey

  76. I’m a 14 year old who recently saw “The Passion of the Christ”, and I want to share how awesome I thought this movie was. It showed how much Jesus loved us, to actually die on the cross for us. I have never cried so much watching a movie. As a teenager I would have never realized what Jesus did to rid us of our sins. I was never really took church or anything of the sort seriously. But after this movie, I’m a changed person. My mom bought me a new bible. I want to go to church more and read the bible. I’m not surprised to read the negative comments and how people twist what the movie is truly about because, hey, critics are going to be critics. What you saw in the movie was written in the bible. People make a big deal about the violence and gore, but it’s what really happened. Without showing all of the torture and the pain, I don’t think I really would have been able to feel his pain and understand what he really went through. Thumbs up to Mel Gibson, and Jim Caviezel -what a great actor (and a great director =] )

  77. Dear Mel

Thank you so much for making this movie, this movie touched me in a way i never thought possible. The Movie got my brother to cry and he’s a tough guy he doesn’t like to cry. This movie made me see Jesus’s death in a whole new way same with all of my family. During the movie i was thinking to myself that he doesn’t deserve this we should be the ones being whiped going threw all thathe did but he did because he loves us and when ever we sin and blow it off like it wasn’t that bad it’s like your spitting in Jesus’s face and Saying( I don’t care what you did) thats why i am ashmed of myself for what i’ve done i ask for forgivness every single day of my life. but thank you again for making

    “The Passion of the Christ”

    sincerly Jason

  78. Mel,

I am a big fan of yours and i think that it is great what you did by makeing this movie. I too am a born again Christian and i saw the movie it was so great. I hit me hard i have heard of what they did to christ. After seeing other movies that weren’t in great detail and boy after i saw yours i had tears in my eyes and i still can’t get the images out of my head. I have been backslidding for a long time and after that i realized just how much christ really loves me and i was the one who moved not him. I hope and pray you do other movies on the bible! Great job!

  79. Thank you and God Bless.

Your movie is moving, great, wonderful, touching, …there are no real words to describe it.

    Thank you!

  80. Wonderfull, Wonderfull Film that effectively communicates to us the both the Suffering and Compassion of Christ. I would love to see a SEQUAL beginning with the RESURECTION and ending with the ASSENTION!

  81. A Tribute to Mel Gibson’s Courage

On behalf of so many of Mel Gibson’s audience viewers and supporters,

I would like to send to Mr. Mel Gibson my fondest appreciations for taking on

his most recent immense project. The project I refer to is that of relaying to us

in the form of a movie, his artistic version and interpretation of The Passion of

the Christ, the venture which has turned out to be a humongous success in so

many ways, spiritually, emotionally, and financially. Every bit of the praises

and prosperity he receives all the way to now is very much deserved for all the

hard work, long hours, configurations, and meditations he’s done to bring about

the acclaimed movie to the screen and to us all. But above all, it took an immense

amount of courage to stand up to all the obstacles that had been put in his path,

that many would have backed down to, even at the beginning, before much effort

had been invested. But as in the words of the 91st Psalms, those who are firm in

God’s faith, shall have nothing to fear, because they will be delivered.

The courage he displayed to us all was not just to stand against a negative

multitude; he opened up to the whole general public his heart and soul for all

to see and feel. He did this in the various newspaper, magazine, and television

interviews. He went as far as to reveal to us all his inner most dark emotions

and secrets. It took real courage to go from one interview to another and

another, in an atmosphere that appeared almost to be more hostile, like combat.

In many of them, it was obvious, the interviewers were trying to pull certain

words out of Gibson’s mouth, or twist his words to seem to mean something

that was apparently different than what it was he really meant. But all went

well, as I believe Gibson did a pretty good job in standing for his convictions.

It was amazing to see such a Hollywood movie mogul, like Mel Gibson,

being so courageous in his interviews by speaking so candid, especially the

one with Diane Sawyer on ABCNEWS’ Primetime. I really admire Gibson for

bravely showing us how even someone as famous as himself can put aside his

pride, to get down on his knees to pray to God for comfort, help, and guidance.

He had the courage to reveal that he was at a time of “spiritual bankruptcy,” and

so he turned to God to fill that void. God filled Mel Gibson’s heart with the

inspiration that led to The Passion. So what was a “spiritual bankruptcy” for

Gibson, became an overfill spiritual prosperity, and not only for Gibson,

but for so many people who have been stirred by the film to feel so many

emotions and having so many religious experiences. The Passion movie has

led so many people to talk about miracles that have taken place in their lives,

and a rebirth of religious identity.

Mel Gibson also showed us courage during the interview, when he spoke

to Diane Sawyer, about the atrocities that happened to the Armenian people

during the genocide, bringing attention to them, as a right to history, since

Armenia is the first Christian nation, and the first Genocide of the 20th century.

His emotions about Armenia are also reflected in his choice of the beautiful

music of The Passion movie. Gibson chose to use the heart touching sorrowful

sound of the ‘duduk,’ an Armenian musical instrument, with a melody sounding

like the Armenian genocidal song DLE YAMAN, in which Christ’s suffering

was intensified in his movie with the music.

We, as members of the free society of human beings, should always bring

attention and give credit, to which it is due, to special courageous human beings,

like Mel Gibson, when we see them. I would like to encourage everyone to be

more supportive of these Gibson-type individuals that you may feel is leading

the way to needy and just causes. Don’t be afraid to show support to those

special persons that you feel are led by God in service to the world, as in movie

makers, music composers, book writers, etc. just because they may appear

different. Support them with your hearts, letters, and with prayers. Let them

know you stand with them, so they are not alone, because when we stand with

them in spirit, we encourage others to stand with us.

When these “touched by God” individuals stand their ground for their rights

and freedoms, they do so for all of us and all mankind, and should rightly be

praised for their endeavors. When they fight off persecutions, insults, or

whatever obstacles, they do it with hope that we may not have to do the same,

because they have cleared the path for all of us. By encouraging those special

individuals not to give up, we are encouraging our own successes and fate in

the future. By helping them to remain brave in their efforts, bold in their actions,

and focused on hope, we are helping ourselves to be able to press on and be able

to achieve our goals of what we feel God has called us to do, no matter how

controversial they may seem to some of the population. By commending

those individuals for being unyielding and standing up for their own rights,

as well as the rights of all, we are, indeed, commending our own steadfastness.

So unite with them to lift up their voices so we, too, may be heard, and that

we may never have to compromise our own words or deeds. Brenda

  82. Brenda,

In my humble opinion; your post borders on idolatry.

‘Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits.’(Matthew 7:15-20)

‘It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God’ (Matthew 19:24).
