COGIC’s Patterson takes legal steps to stop splinter group
The Church of God in Christ started legal proceedings against the offshoot of the denomination, The Church of God in Christ New Day. Bishop Patterson, presiding Bishop of the COGIC, wants to be assured that the new group will not be able to use “The Church of God in Christ” as part of its name.
The head of the Memphis-based Church of God In Christ took legal steps Friday to stop a splinter group from using the name of the Pentecostal denomination.
Bishop G.E. Patterson is seeking a restraining order in Chancery Court that would stop the new Church of God In Christ New Day Inc. and Bishop David W. Grayson from using the COGIC name.
Grayson, 61, pastor of Grayson Temple in Raleigh, has been a COGIC minister for 35 years.
He has said COGIC New Day congregations will maintain the same core beliefs of “the mother church” except that COGIC New Day will ordain women as ministers.
What should have been settled in the church is now being settled in the courts.
A hearing on the motion for a restraining order is scheduled for Feb. 9 before Chancellor Arnold Goldin.
Grayson was served with copies of the request and notice of the hearing as he arrived Friday at Greater Harvest for what was billed as an “elevation jubilee.”
Grayson countered the legal claims filed by Patterson with word that the new denomination has had its name accepted by the Tennessee Secretary of State.

Dear Readers: When the news was told that Bishop David Grayson was found in contempt of court; many of you thought the entire trial was over. That decision was based on the fiat or Restraining Order that was issued against Bishop Grayson. Bishop Grayson was ordered to stop using the name, etc. Since that court date Bishop Grayson has received surmountable support through out the nation. According to the calls, letters, and faxes, many are comparing him to the apostles in the book of Acts. Acts 5: 28 Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? 29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
Do you really want to know the truth? Let me tell you what really happened. Bishop G E Patterson told the judge something like this:
Hey, I got a person that is leaving my organization to start his own organization. He is stealing several of my churches. I quote, “that at least 40 congregations that were formerly a part of Church of God in Christ will join him. He also tells the Judge, not only is he stealing the people he is stealing the property of these churches. I quote, “Real estate and all other property acquired by purchase, gift, devise or otherwise by the local churches is required by the Church of God in Christ, Inc.’s constitution, charter and/or by-laws to be held in trust for the use and benefit of the members of Church of God in Christ inc…Upon information and belief, David Grayson is attempting to transfer or convert real and personal property that belongs
to Church of God in Christ. THERE WAS NO PROPERTY BEING TRANSFERRED, IT WAS A BIG LIE! THERE WAS NO 40 CONGREGATIONS LEAVING THE CHURCH! But look at God! Because he was lying he had to later drop those allegations. Nevertheless, the damage was already done to Bishop Grayson. There is more!
It was discovered that many of the pastors were deeding there properties to the national church; THE PRESIDING BISHOP DOES NOT HAVE ONE INCH OF HIS PROPERTY DEEDED TO THE NATIONAL CHURCH. IT IS EITHER DEEDED BOUNTIFUL BLESSINGS OR TEMPLE OF DELIVERANCE. CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST IS NO WERE ON THE DEEDS. Back to the court case. The first Judge is up for re-election and recused(disqualifies) himself from the trial. G. E. Patterson has already gotten the restraining order from the first judge. The Judge jumps ship in the middle of fight, but not before putting a hole in Bishop Grayson sail! So now comes the second Judge. He has nothing to do with the Restraining orders being issued; he is just making sure it is being adhered to. Bishop Grayson obeying the leading of the Lord is found guilty in the eyes of man, but counted faithful in the eyes of God! My brothers and sisters, this case is far from being over!
It’s kind of ironic to here all of this disputation about the COGIC splitering. Because in the midst of it I here all of this allegiance to Bishop Mason and slander for Elder Grayson. I offer this as a suggestion to my COGIC brothers/sisters. Bishop Mason ascended to power in this same manner. He did not elevate within the ranks of the National Baptist Convention and consequently he decalared that God told him to start his own thing – THE COGIC. Dear saints when are we going learn that a house divided against itself will not stand? The problem with organized religion is not so much our doctrinal diferences. We could get over that if we wanted to. The real issue is that we’re often seduced by the love of power.
What we all need to do is realize whats really happeing here, If the lord told you to start your own thing then you would no have to use that name to start it. YOUR OWN THING! Does not require somebody elses name. He’s trying to use the COGIC as a way t opromote his own thing. And show me in the bible where women were ordained to preach and i’ll show you where they arent. Thats why COGIC is where they are today

Once again we have a response of someone blinded by the charisma of man and not lead by words of Christ. The Church belongs to Christ, not Gilbert Patterson nor Church of God in Christ. Bishop David W. Grayson went out on his own. He did not start his own organization. The body of Christ is an organism not an organization. Please my brother, read and listen to the facts and not your blinded loyalty to a man. The Church of God in Christ Mennonites had the name first. Historically and legally they are the originater of the name. What if the people from that organization saw this website and wrote in to all of us debating and said, “all of you need to get a new name because we had the name since the 1850′s” That means that every organization that used Church of God in Christ is plagarizing there name. Plagarize – to take another person’s name, work, etc and use it as your own.
Secondly – show me in the Bible were a man was ordained to preach. God annointed and commisioned

I truly love the Church of God in Christ. I have been a member for more than 50 years. I am an evangelist/missionary. I am sorry that this trouble has come among us. So many people are reading this website. Let us not hinder the work of the ministry with bitterness and strife. Its disturbs me to hear the disrespected undertones by referring to Bishop G.E.Patterson as Gilbert Patterson. That is not a demonstration of brotherly love. He is The Bishop of the Churches of God in Christ! I honor Bishop David Grayson also, in spite of the differences, I would not dare to call him David Grayson. Let brotherly love continue. Just because we disagree, we should not act ugly with one another. Let us remember who we are and whose we are. God is our leader. We are his servants. He commanded that we love one another. It is a challenge to love in an hour of opposition. But we as people of God must accept that challenge and love. To the last person: God came that we might have life, and have it more abundantly. Stop belaboring on ‘gloom and doom’ and live the life God has called you to live – BE an example to others and unlearn all of the ‘rituals’ that you think makes you sanctified. Stop worrying about the COGIC and a dead man’s legacy and focus on a true and unadulterated, operational, relationship with the the Creator.
Pastor P, i am shocked to hear a man of God degrade another man of God. even if he weren’t a true man of God, because he carries the title “Man of God”, it is very dangerous to personally attack tha person…whomever he may be, of course we all know this to be biblical.
It seems that some of you are taking the name disagreement much more serious than the Presiding Bishop. Besides being the chief apostle of the forth largest denomination in the country, he is also the CEO of a 9 million memeber corporation, which owns, property, and it’s COPYWRITTEN name. It is his job and duty to protect all assets that are COGIC. If he did not try to do so to the best of his ability, then he would not be a true CEO. Add to the fact that the General Board of the church is a very active one, and very involved in this matter as well…not just Bishop Patterson.
Also, the meaning of “defroc” would be to strip away the title and power of a church official. Usurp means to overthrow those in power. An election is something different and is WELL within the church constitution and guidlines. He neither usurped nor defroced the Presiding Bishop according to the rules of the “Church”.
The “church” is bigger than an individual and the church through election is the one that placed him into the position of Presiding Bishop.
Also, for those of us who have a hard time forgiving him for leaving and rejoining the Church, we need to really check out the biblical definition of Christian Forgiveness. It is a dangerous thing to hold something against someone…especially if it had nothing at all to do with you. It is not a good thing to go swimming in the sea of forgetfullness.
Lastly, when the Bible talks about having an ought against a brother…it says that we should go to that person and try to work it out, THEN if that does not work, try again in the midst of witnesess, THEN if that does not work, bring it before the Church, Finally if that does not work, cast him into “outer darkness”. If all of those were met, then there is nothing is to discuss.
Bishop Gilbert Earl Patterson is the greatest example of hypocrisy ever to disgrace the Great Church of God In Christ.
(1) He fought the Presiding Bishop, Which was his own Uncle (The Late Bishop J.O. Patterson).
(2) He is the only Person in the History of the Church to usurp or defroc a Presiding Bishop (Bishop Chandler D. Owens).
(3) When he left the church he started an organization called “COGIC Pastor”. In the by-laws it is stated that his desire was to curb the power of the ruling authority.
(4) He blocked Pentecostal Temple from being Pentecostal Temple COGIC. That is why it has been called Pentecostal “Institutional” COGIC. Bishop G.E. had incorporated the Pentecostal Temple COGIC to block Bishop J.O. Patterson from the name.
(5) When his father W.A Patterson was denied a jurisdiction in West Tennessee, he fled the church for 13 years.
(6) When Bishop Grayson was block by him personally from recieving a jurisdiction, He led the church into biblical disobedience and sued Bishop Grayson. Many of you say that Bishop Grayson is wrong for using the name Church of God in Christ New Day. Then you are bigger hyprocrites than your leader. Why? Remember when you taught that if a person left the church he or she was not saved and was going to hell. Bishop Grayson left the organization and took the church with him. You taught him that COGIC was the only way, so why do you sue and choose to stop him for obeying your teaching?
I just cannot believe I am having one of those bad days as a single chirstian female and looking for someone to talk with. I stumble on this site because I typed in the name of Bishop GE Patterson because I watch him most Sunday morning. The kind of bad mouth that people who take side on the matter of Grayson vs Patterson is unbelievable. How can Christians bad mouth each other. I thought the bible says one fountain cannot spring forth clean and unclean water.
Why does anyone one need to take side and call each other names.
I am not even remotely related to the matter I live in Canada, I only see these people on tv, but it sounds sick. Christians suing christians? Over church name? Am I to believe that or is it made up? Who cares who uses what name? The more people saved for glory isnt that the better? Is this a franchise? What is going on. I am really embarrassed, because I watched Bishop Patterson as often as I can and I like his messages.
After being saved in my living room nearly 3 years ago, I turned to my dear cousin who belonged to the COGIC all of her 60 something years and I joined her church.
Ever since then, I have been going through a “spritual” battle as to whether this is the place I should be. I see and hear things from the pastor that I feel do not jibe with what I read in the Bible. I pray for discernment, and I believe God has given me that. I also try and try to find reasons to stay- not to leave, but I believe God is leading me somewhere else- I just don’t know where yet…
An example is: The pastor says “don’t tell it all” that although the Bible says “confess to one another” there are things we should not say. I vehemently disagree with this! Are we to only obey SOME of His Word??? Why can’t we stand up and boldly confess and help each other? Why are the “saints” so afraid of being totally real? And there are other things such as all of this hierarchy and honoring so and so all of the time! I don’t have the money to be continually giving to people that have more than the congregation! This is not my understanding of what Paul told the church to do. There are widows and other people in the church who need help. We should not concentrate on the ones who already have and because of these “titles” are given even more. God help the Body of Christ!!!

I think that all this is due to a spirit of rebellion on the part of Bro. Grayson. He’s not a Bishop because a Bishop would hearken himself to the words of the Lord not to his foolish flesh! The reason Bro. Grayson is trying to break apart and ordain women is because some Jezebel got her hands on an Ahab and is causing a whole lot of ol mess. My church is not COGIC but I just want to tell Bishop Patterson that I love you and your ministry and you keep on preaching and spreading the gospel! This is a prime example of how Absalom did his father David. Absalom sat at the gate of the Kingdom and told the people of the kingdom lies about how David did not care about them and so on. Absalom preceeded to tell the people that if he was elevated king that he would care more for them than David ever could.(2 Samuel 15) I pray that we all get a better understand and will one day be able to unit as ONE BODY, because Jesus will return one day for His Bride which is the Church without blemish, spot, or wrinkle.
Bishop G.E. Patterson dont worry about what no one says. You were ordained and called to be the presiding bishop of this grand ole Church of God in Christ. I have been apart of this church all my life. Throughout this period I have heard many hypocrites downing the church. The only reason they are doing it is because we are a peculiar religion. We are set aside and very unique. We also take a stand in what we believe, and what we believe is in the true living God who is the head of the church and in the word of God. Bishop you are the type that doesn’t let position blow your head up and you still know that god is the head of the church and not one man. I think Bishop G.E. patterson is the best and most influential man of god on earth. He is a profound speaker and motivation to the people as one. His ministries have grown tremendously and the cogic benefits from every aspect of his life. The real cogic is the one and the best the one that was found by Charles Harrison Mason. So I dont know why all these people are trying to add stuff behind cogic like united, annointed, or mennonite. It is just not right. But God is on Bishop G.E. I didnt find that scripture in the Bible. This form of eisegesis is also proof of your Cognitive Dissonance. Eisegesis is the approach to Bible interpretation where the interpreter tries to “force” the Bible to mean something that fits their existing belief or understanding of a particular issue or doctrine.

Secondly let me clear up this misquote. No disrespect to you man of God,
but I am critical of people that spew out scripture(s) and dont exegetically
expound on them correctly. I quote, ” bible do say touch not my anointed and Bishop Patterson is anointed by God.” First of all lets put this scripture that is found in 1Chr 16:22 & Ps 105:15. The contextual exposition of these scriptures are Covenant confirmation to the nation of Israel of how God has been Jevehovah Nissi (The Lord God our Shield or Banner) The opposition or enemy of the statement are he idolitrious nations that oppose Israel. From Egypt and so forth.
The hebrew word for touch (naga – naw gah’) means to lay the hand upon, smite, struck, and plague. Just because a person is annointed does not mean they cannont be held accountable. EX:When God told Saul (His anointed) to “Smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not…” (1 Sam. 15:3) Saul disobeyed and “spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the Lord…” (v.15). Upon which Samuel wasted no time in publicly denouncing Saul’s disobedience, telling him that “rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft”. (v.23), and that God had rejected him as king. The Lord’s ‘anointed’ was verbally condemned by Samuel for his disobedience.

I have read the comments of all and I have a question. Is it more important to God and/or Lord Jesus for us to have respect of persons (man) or to keep the commandments? Christians should not take other Christians to court over anything because it simply shows our immaturity and selfishness. This bishop who wants to use part of the COGIC name is not doing anything wrong if he uses other words or symbols with it (e.g., COGIC v. COGIC New Day). I want to inform all of you that Bishop Patterson will lose this matter in court because of this very reason. I would be the same if I made a line of automobiles called BMWX in stead of BMW. BMW could never take me to court because the name is not identical. Now, I know that all of you have a high school education and some of you a little college or more, but you must reasonable when it comes to the law. Furthermore, Bishop Patterson and any other bishop is not more important in God’s and/or our Lord’s eyes than the person who just came into the knowledge of God and our Lord Jesus. It is not he that runneth this race fast or the strongest that God or the Lord regards by the one who does the will of the Father as Jesus taught

Everyone need to stick to the topic at hand, the simple fact remains that if you want to take on the COGIC name then you have to abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the COGIC, whether we want to admit it or not there are still laws and rules that apply to copyright and name infringement.

I don’t know what laws of man your are referring too, but I will inform you that I study law and have had an issue with copyright laws. Copyright laws only applies is two persons claim to have ownership of an original idea. However, whichever person copyrights the idea first, the government acknowledges that person as the author.
Question: Did Bishop G.E. Patterson have the idea of starting the COGIC organization first? Did he officially record this idea with the U.S. Congress by copyrighting it?
Those are the questions that the Court will have before it by the lawyers representing Bishop G.E. Patterson and Bishop Grayson. So before you begin to correct me, go and study the laws of man.
Final note, the problem with the church today is that we operate too much in accordance with man’s system and not with God’s system. That is why you have persons who say they are Christian defending Bishop G.E. Patterson like they do. When Christ comes, will it matter if there were two or three or more COGIC’s with direct names or whether we have made disciples of men according to His Word (Matthew 28:18-20). I will give you credit on this and that is that we need to stick to the topic; Christ, he crucified, risen, and exalt at the right hand of God the Father.

I am a widow age 70 and mother of 20 living sons and daughters. I once attended the COGIC in my city faithfully for four years. I want to know something. Who do we trust and is our faith in the name of the church or is it in Jesus/God? Would someone answer me this question? The church (or “the building”) will be here, but we better have a solid foundation in Christ. I need an answer.
Elenora you are very correct….Our faith should be in Jesus Christ, so many people think that the building they enter into makes them a Christian but we know that the Bible so aptly states that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and how can the Spirit dwell in an unclean temple..i.e. our bodies should be the temple and the Church itself is set forth for Worship and Praise and for believers to be taught the truth. But let’s not forget that we cannot hear without a preacher and the Church should be in us and not just us going to Church as a formality. Also we are taught to fail not to assemble in the Church so it goes back and makes the building important because it is a place set aside to bring believers together in one setting to bring in the atmosphere of the annointing. But remember this, whether I am Baptist, COGIC, Methodist, etc…only the pure in heart shall see God…Our denominations will not get us into Heaven, our lives saved and free from sinned and washed in the precious blood of Jesus.

I can quote you scripture after scripture from the Old Testament through the New Testament, but it appears that I would be casting my pearls among swine. When a person honors her/himself above God and His Word, the Holy Bible teaches that God will humble the proud in heart and that without remedy. Bishop G.E. Patterson is being prideful to think that he is the author, founder, and sustainer of the COGIC on any level even in this world. I love my Christian brothers and sisters, but some have gone after teachers having itchy ears to hear whatever pleases them.

I have always been told and raised that it was wrong to play the lottery, however, I just needed to see it in print…and I guess my drive behind taking a chance is that it’s up to $340 million in (Pittsburgh) so to put it plainly I was tempted, thinking what I could do with all that money. Brother, I don’t know exactly how old you are or how you were when you began acknowledging Father God and the Lord Jesus, but it is apparant that you are still a spiritual babe. Let me explain this to you.
As mature believers, everything we do has to be done in love. Love considers every saint and not just those who we would regard above the others such as bishops, pastors, prophets, evangelists, and teachers. For example, children don’t have to think of anyone else except themselves. Therefore, parents (mature adults) teach their children to consider everyone else around them. Father God is just that: our parent. The Lord Jesus is our complete example and Master of what our spiritual maturity should be and become.
Now, if you believe that I have said anything ungodly or not biblical about Bis. G. Patterson, then tell me what it was. However, my question to you is ‘why does what I say about him has any impact on your relationship with Father God and Lord Jesus.’
Your allegiance is not to any man whether saved or unsaved, but to Father God and the Lord Jesus. Sometimes, mature saints sin and the bible clearly explains why 2 Peter 1:3-11 and James 1. We are constantly warned by the Lord Jesus to not be deceived and to hold the faith until His return. The faith involves more than just acknowledging Father God and the Lord Jesus. It also involves loving and forgiving our brothers and sisters of all offenses they commit against us of every stature.
Now to the point, if Bis. G. Patterson could not forgive Bis. Grayson and trust Father God and the Lord Jesus to resolve the issue, then he is spiritual immature no matter how large and supposedly productive the COGIC seems to the fleshly eye (Matthew 5:21-26; Matthew 5:18). Bis. G. Patterson had and still has a opportunity to restore his Christian relationship with Bis. Grayson. Therefore, young minister, you really need to understand what is right in God’s eyes and not in what man has directed you to believe. God will judge us for every offense we commit against our brothers and sisters in Christ and He will not be slack concerning His promise.
Be filled with the knowledge of God through our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus in all wisdom, glory, and power. I will pray for the eyes of your understanding to be opened in this matter regarding God’s commands/Word.

The Lord Jesus taught in Matthew 6 that Father God knows and sees our needs before we ask or pray. However, we cannot serve God and money (Matthew 6:19-24). He later taught that must seek God’s kingdom or ways and His righteousness (Matthew 6:25-34).
It is given for some of us to become extremely wealthy or rich for the glory and kingdom of Father God (Proverbs 10:22; 1 Kings 3). Others will lives of sufficient resources to minister to the kingdom of God (Proverbs 23:4; Proverbs 28:20; 2 Corinthians 9).
My encouragement to you is this…don’t focus on being rich so much with money, but rather focus on being rich in love, mercy, truth, righteousness, forgiveness, kindness and the like which is the fruit of the Spirit (of God) and against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23).

In accordance with Matthew 18, we as the church have a right to intervene and speak God’s Word about anything that goes on with our brothers and sisters in the church. This is not judging, but rather setting things in order as God Himself as ordained. Bishop Patterson has done something that the world applauds, but the God condemns. Yes, we all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, but Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of sin. We don’t have to continue in sin as Saint John taught.
So for you to keep going on and on about everyone sinning tells me that you have not accepted that we don’t have to continue in sin and we can ask God to forgive us and cleanse us from our unrighteousness. No one is speaking bad of Bishop Patterson, but we have to be spiritually mature when discerning whether he has done what God has instructed in His Word what a believer (Christian) should do regarding his neighbor or brother.
Brother, I am not writing to defend Bishop Patterson or Bishop Grayson, but to speak the truth that is in God’s Word. Brother, I encourage you to pray for both bishops and those around you in COGIC because God/Jesus will return for His church, not COGIC, without a spot, wrinkle, or a blemish.

Merry Christmas everyone, Im off helping victims of the hurricane and this is a sight to see. Remember in everything give thanks. When we complain about trivial matters remember that there is someone in worse shape than you are, or for that matter there are millions in worse shape just from this storm, it has taught me to appreciate the smallest things and it is a dose of reality as I see our people left with nothing. So remeber to give a kind word and do the smallest things like tell a loved one that you love them, do something special for someone less fortunate, give a kind word to a stranger, and live everyday as if it was your last…you never know when it will all be taken from you. Praise the Lord brethren I am a sixth generation COGIC preacher dating back to Bishop C.A Watson who was in attendance at the first general assembly with Bishop Mason and all of the other Bishop’s after the split with Bishop C.P. Jones.
As a lifetime member of the COGIC I am greatly dissapointed with the newly elected leadership of this church, Bishop Patterson though a great preacher and theologian is not worthy to be named among the former presiding Bishop’s of the COGIC including the one he defrocked Bishop Chandler D. Owens. I am also as a seasoned man of God somewhat dissapointed that those of you who are by evidence of your writings seasoned men (Pastor P, Pastor M, Eric) have made the mistake that the COGIC has made for many years electing to relinquish the fight to so call focus on Christ and what I call the grey areas that we all agree on while we allow satans infectious system to prevail in the Church. Brethren I exhort you to fight the good fight of faith , The bible says that we are to make our calling and election sure, Cry loud spare not Lift up thy voice as a trumpet in zion. I love all of Gods people including Bishop Patterson that does not mean I nor you should sit Idly by while the church is pimped and prostituted by man. The COGIC is Gods church for the 21st Century I am compelled to beleive such only by the way this church began under the hands of Bishop Mason, Certainly in times like these looking to memphis we see no indication of such, But the bible said return to the old landmark thats where the blessing is, thats where true missin and ministry of the COGIC is, not in memphis not in men and certainly not in Bis G.E Patterson. Do you think it is right to take the name of the church of god in christ and ridicule it or make it into something that Bishop charles harrison mason did not vision for it to be. Like I said before, the church of god in christ is a unique church, and the only reason why so many people want to put us down is because we are right and holy. The only way to enter into gods kingdom is to be holy. We stand for whats in the bible and nothing that someone made up. Everyone should know that the bible is right and someone is wrong. First, I have always stated that what Bishop G. Patterson did was wrong. Second, I am no a foolish messenger excusing him for his ungodly behavior. Now, it is clear that you have misunderstood my position and rightly so if you chose to read only parts of the statements I made about the entire matter. However, I would like to pose some questions to you.
Since you feel that I have not addressed the issue at hand (Bishop’s misappropriation of authority), I would like to know have you gone to Bishop G. Patterson personally and made him aware of his actions and how it is offensive to the body of Christ? Or is it more important to you to correct me without my having done anything wrong except comment on this bulletin board about the matter of Bishop G. Pattern? Does Bis. Patterson know how you feel or any other COGIC members? Does it appears that he cares? If you have an uncaring leader, please tell what do you do about it? First of all we should look at it through the eyes of god. would he set back and talk about all the wrong that either one of these people did or would he take action. I understood your statement to speak adversely to what have explained. I was not offended, but would rather not be a part of this constant going back-and-forth about this matter.
I do not agree with the position of maintaining close relationships with someone who is outright disobedient to God Himself for God is His Word. I will continue to pray for the brother/sister as long as the God’s Holy Spirit compels me, but I will stop when God lets go. It is not for us to prove we can maintain good relationships with people where God’s Word has drawn a line.
Psalms 1:1 tells us how to be blessed in God and Christ regarding our relationship with those who sin. Is it wise to maintain a relationship with the bishop if he has offended your brother? How would your brother feel when he sees you standing with the one who offended him? Is it taking sides? Yes. But, whose side is it? God’s or satan’s? God did not allow satan to roam heaven in his disobedient state mingling with the other angels. No. He threw satan out to the earth. I am not saying to you to throw out the bishop, but I am saying don’t walk in the counsel of the ungodly, neither stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful. For bishop to offend his brother and not make the effort to repent to him is outright disobedient and disrespectful to God’s Word and God is His Word. Therefore, this is outright disobedient and disrespectful to God Himself as stated.
The Holy Bible clearly teaches that open rebuke is better than secret love. Because you love the bishop, you will continue to sit in the congregation and hear God’s Word from him. Think on this. If he refuses to repent to his brother who is the image of God and Christ, then why would you honor him when he will not honor the God you serve? To many pastors, bishops, etc., have deceived God’s people into thinking its best to pray for them when they sin, but disassociate with your brother/sister when he/she sins. God has no respect for persons. If I know of another pastor that sins and will not repent to our brother/sister in God and Christ, I disassociate from that pastor until he/she repents. I don’t hate him/her, but I do not allow them to disrespect the body of Christ.
Final note. The sinners that Jesus sat with wanted a change. Those that didn’t he did not sup with them.

I’ve watched some of these comments and I am thoroughly dissappointed with some statements made…and particularly by some supposedly men of God, whether Elders or Pastor’s…do not you teach your congregation, family, friends, etc..that we all have sinned and come short..etc…being in the ministry as a leader does not exempt us from mistakes, if God continually frowned upon us for making a mistake or being disobedient then there would be no such thing as grace, in a short but simple statement God tells us to forgive how many time..(I know you preachers know the answer), when we are trying to condemn a person for his past, we do not know if that person has asked for forgiveness and been washed with the blood of Jesus, if we continue to harbor hatred and things in our heart then we will not see Jesus for ourselves, the righteous will scarcely make it in…I’ve been in the company of Bishop Patterson (many times) and watched him closely and I do not see the villian you portray him to be, sure he has made errors and mistakes, havent we all, I have been in the COGIC 28 years and I have seen the ups and downs but through it all we stand, and I would rather go into a fight with soldiers that are willing to die for the cause, and that is soul winning..I can’t tell you to leave the Church or go elsewhere but don’t sit and try to bring dissension amongst the brothern because you are unhappy, if their is an alt with your brother you attempt to get it straight and let God do the rest, I inherently am the son of a Pastor and minister in his congreation that supports the COGIC and have my Bishop on the General Board, sure we don’t agree with everything that goes on but our public display is one that is one that shows Unity and our disagreements are resolved sometimes as a Church or by the governing body of the Church..as is the COGIC, INC…that is what the General Board is for, I have watched people betray my Father, and my Bishop and disagree, but never have I seen them resort to name calling and demeaning another…It appears to me that there are some unresolved issues within that need to be corrected so a healing process can take place…On that judgment day, whether you are a Pastor, Elder, Min, teacher, brother, sister, etc..a title or a good work will not merit you a reward in heaven, only a life that pleases Christ thru salvation…Let’s forgive and reflect instead of condemning and teach others the true way of Holiness….If we disagree then there is a proper way to do it…I think we owe some on here apologies as well because even typed words can hurt and harm, and a word of note to you die hard COGIC believers…the best way to combat the Devil is to ignore him and give him no Glory, because all Power Belongs to God, I’ve been taught that the enemy is my foot-stool, so look at it this way, Im walking on his head and the devil is smelling my feet and im clipping toe nails on his head so I know he is not happy and is trying his best to get me…Why does the Devil need to try to come at someone he already has…Point being…he starts at the top and shoots for the head, why?

I really think this blog should be discontinued! I rarely read or hear about anyone guiding someone on what needs to be done to be saved and how to make Heaven his/her home. What if a sinner where reading these blogs? I believe they would be Lost. Each time I read these comments,It’s usually about saints bickering back and forth trying to prove who’s wrong and who’s right. GOD alone is the one who administers judgement and and is yet in control and in charge and has the final word on how we lived in this life. It’s very discouraging and grieving to read these comments on this blog. I would recommend everyone just pray and put this matter in GOD’s hands.

What concerns me most in all this is that I here so many goodhearted and seemingly saved people exhorting me and others to simply disregard this matter and rebuke me for having the veiws that I have. Many of you Cogic brothers and sisters would say that it is wrong for me to dare speak in any way about Bis. Patterson that is derogatory. Well I have not spoken in anyway derogatory about Bis Patterson but only his UNGODLY actions, is this not what the bible demands. “Eph 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” I dont seek to destroy Bis Patterson nor his character but if anyone thinks that I will sit idly by while men and their actions destroy a church that has and does mean so much to me they are grossly sadly mistaken. Some of you say just leave if you dont agree with Bis Patterson to you who say that, if you went to your favorite restaurant in the world and one particular day you attend this place and the server slams the menu on the table throws the napkins at you and your family. What do you do leave the restaurant and never to return or do you complain to the manager. Thats how I feel about the cogic though the restaurant is exceptional the cheif service has been terrible. Now in this scenario the management dualfold God is in control and we must pray the will of the father, however he has delegated authority to certain individuals
to make decisions in accordance with his word in this case it is the general assembly. This message is for all. I will humble myself in the eyes of our Heavenly Father and ask to be forgiven of Him for any misunderstandings that any of my statements have caused or contributed to that of others.
I have forgiven anyone who has mistakenly or intentionally stated that I have said anything out of ungodly character. No apology is necessary.
It is imperative that we as believers, newborn or mature, fully admit to agree to what God’s Word states without refrain. It is adamantly important that we do not confuse God’s Grace with excusing any professed believer from offending the Body of Christ. Moreover, as believers, we must understand that the Body of Christ is the expressed image of Christ who is the expressed image of God.
When a member in the Body hurts, we all feel the pain. Likewise when a member sins, we all share the shame. This is why Jesus taught that we should not expose our brothers/sisters, but cover them in love. Love is the healing balm that our Heavenly Father used to redeem us from our sins. For those wanting an understanding, Jesus, the only Begotten of the Father, was that balm or healing ointment as recorded in St. John 3:16-18 KJV.
It is clear, if we all agree, that Bishop G.E. Patterson needs to be healed from his faults/sins as written in James 5:16 KJV. Consequently, healing is only manifested when confession or admittance of sin is acknowledged by the one in need as recorded in James 5:14-16 KJV. In addition, Bishop Grayson needs to be healed upon his confession of faults/sins. But beloved, let us not be presumptuous in deceiving ourselves into thinking that for one reason or another it is somehow expeditious to relieve one of fault or forgive him/her of sin without having the understanding of whether s/he is at fault or has committed any sin.
Now, I am willing to concede the issue if we agree that this is a matter of spiritual maturity for believers and not an issue of any unbeliever’s perspective. It is true that we should be more wise and conscious of discerning the issue for a resolute and not simply for a course of debate, which would prove to be vexatious and vain. Wherefore, the question lingers in my mind and that is ‘are we prepared spiritually to pray for our brothers and ask our Heavenly Father for His Guidance in dissolving the issue?’ Spiritually and intelligently speaking, this is the best course of action and will relieve whatever tensions anyone may have. However, an agreement is necessary and binding once entered, which will allow for no further discussions unless there is a glorious praise report that will ascend to our Heavenly Father in thanks for His Divine intervention.
In conclusion, could we come to that consensus? I leave the matter to you.

Grayson nor am I defending either of them, I dont care who leaves the Cogic because they feel the Lord is leading them the fact that G.E Patterson would even pursue this frivilous garbage in court speaks to the true measure of his CHARACTER, there are DOZENS of organization’s using the name Cogic with some insignificant verbage on the end for legal purposes three of which I have preached for the Presiding Bishops and their Holy Convocations and though these splinter groups are not as big as the original they are not by any standard mom and pop shops. And you dont see Patterson suing any of them I think its because he knows outside of Memphis he would’nt even get a day in court for this garbage. And how can you sue someone for using a part of your organizations name and adding something to the end of it, Anybody who has commonsense knows that CogicNewday will not suffer any legal ramifications in this matter anyway the name is not exclusive to the Cogic those of you who know history know that the Mennonites were the originators of the name Cogic. I Pastor the Cathedral of Harvest COGIC, what do I care if a member of my Ministerial staff under the leading of the holyspirit with the works to boot goes and starts a the “Cathedral of Harvest FIRE” Cogic. And I applaud Bishop Grayson for ordaining and licensing women to do the full works of ministry for to long women have been veiwed as a dispensable item, used and manipulated for sex among other things by men in power supossedly given to them by God, women who desire ministry are not concubines. This is not an attempt to sweep anything under the rug. This is about order.
For example, when someone is brought before the court for committing a crime, the law has to be followed. Now, the law may require a hearing and a show of evidence to determine if there is enough evidence to hold the accused. If so, then another hearing is scheduled to decide whether or not there should be a trial (it is at the discretion of the accused). If a trial is called, then witnesses and other evidence are gathered to proved beyond a reasonable doubt or by the perponderance of the evidence that the accused is guilt or innocent.
Our forum of law is God’s Word and we are neither judge nor jury. We are only witnesses as to whether the accused is guilty or innocent in accordance with God’s Word or Law.
Now, therefore, we cannot hold someone in a spiritual prison until s/he admits to the proposed violation of God’s Word or Law. Our job is simply to seek God’s Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Discernment, and Discretion on how we should proceed in addressing our brother/sister accused. As stated, God is the Judge and Jury and will find the brother/sister to be guilty/innocent given the weight of the evidence.
Yes, we become angry when we perceive an injustice, but we are commanded to be quick to hearing/understanding from our God’s perspectives and slow to speak/judge from our human perspective because our wrath (angry actions) do not work the righteousness/will of God (James 1:19-20).
Moreover, Jesus does teach that even if a brother/sister accused is found to be guilty, we must forgive him/her anyways (St. Matthew 18:15-22). Therefore, to continue to debate or thresh the issue would become offensive to God and Christ since they have given us our instructions to follow. This is TRUTH.
Furthermore, would you want someone repeating your mistakes over and over again that said s/he is a Believer. I am sure you would want to know at what point s/he would become satisfied. When you were openly shame or devastated?
Let’s not forget St. Matthew 7:1-5.

When he got up Bishop Lowe sat in his seat and moved his belongings to the side. This order was passed down by the Presiding Bishop. But if you watch his telecast, He shows old services with Bishop Reed in them. That is SO LUDICRIOUS! The points I am making are real. Im not on hear trying to be philosophical or ideological, the stuff Im talking about is real. Some of the Saints have blinders on and cannot handle the truth. Brother, I love and am with you, but the fact remains that we cannot make or force Bishop Patterson to live according to the Holy Bible that he preaches and teaches to so many others. I am neither defending him nor judging, but I understand through scripture that we cannot place our focus on him. We must understand that God has an order to things. God is Judge and Jury.
Know this, the real believers are not in agreement with his actions or the actoins of anyone who declares Christ to be their Lord and God to be their Heavenly Father and they revile God’s Word. Therefore, don’t be discouraged or upset, I am with you to fullest extent and Jesus taught it is those that do God’s will who enters God’s kingdom.

I’m glad you brought that issue up. When Bishop Owens took Hutchins to court, Bishop Blake flew to Florida and testified in the defense behalf. He took the time to put together packets to mail to several individuals. This is a man of action. You remind me of the men in barber shop that have opinions and complaints about President Bush; but did not vote! I want you to listen to what Im about to say and listen carefully. God is not going to do nothing for us, He has already done it! People like you are waiting on God to fix things, when he has already given his saints to power. Question: Why are you so defensive of Bishop G.E. Patterson? How can you be so loyal to a man and not to God?
No one is judging bishop P, at least I am not, but no one is excusing what he did, except you. You have been the advocate for a man who refuses to publicly admit that he has sinned or correct his actions by apologizing to the congregations of COGIC and those that have followed after Christ/God through the COGIC.
You want to judge us who are doing what the bible says we should and that is to address a brother/sister for sinning against him/her. I have a right to address bishop for his sins against me if I at any point in my Holy walk with God/Christ have listened to God’s Word preached and taught by him. You are immature to understand the impact that bishop’s actions have made on so many believers.
It is honorable of you to defend your bishop, but have you admonished him for his actions. Remember brother open rebuke is better than secret love. You will be judge for not correcting your brother in love. Love is two-fold: correction and discipline.
How can you win a soul for God/Christ when you won’t even correct those who say they are in the Body of Christ (I Corinthians 6:1-10)? You keep saying what Jesus said, but you won’t say that Jesus said to go to your brother/sister who has offended you or who has offended your brother/sister in God/Christ and address that the issue (Matthew 18:15-17 and Luke 17:1-4). Brother, you need to speak the whole Word of God. Don’t use the parts of God’s Word to promote your point when you should be using God’s Word rightly in al things.
Your argument is pointless and retarded (mentally elementary) because you are immature to the truth of God’s Word. You are not ready to be a minister in any facet because you can’t even judge righteously in simple matters of obedience or disobedience to God’s Word. If you want to be heard, you are being heard. I am thoroughly convinced of the power of God to preserve His Beloved (the COGIC), despite the machinations of men whether clerical or secular, in the highest ranks of the hierarchy or politics. We must rest in the conviction that God knows what He is doing and can use even the devil to promote the welfare of His Church. This, as far as I’m concerned, is merely a learning experience for all of us who have the interests of our Lord Jesus and His Church at heart. However, as we rest in that assurance we are also obligated to work for the benefit of the Kingdom. We have an election coming up in 2008; the current Presiding Bishop has pledged not to run. I would advise all of you, beloved bretheren, to leave Bishop Patterson to the judgement of God, prepare your hearts in prayer and fasting for the coming year(s), develop the strength to resist obstacles, continue to watch and pray,and continue in love for our Lord, His Church and one to another, strengthening each other in the Faith.This Church Shall Prevail!

Bishop G.E. Patterson attended but did not preach at Temple of Deliverance, Sunday,Jan.7. He appeared to be in good health and cheerful disposition as Supt. Milton Hawkins delivered the Gospel message. All praise and glory to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the speedy recovery of our brother and Presiding Bishop. Nepotism has been a strong legacy of the pattersons. Surely those that have served and toiled loyally will be devistated if that is the case.

Bishop Patterson attended. Bishop Bogan’s son, known as Pastor C, was installed by Bishop Patterson. He and his wife are graduates of Oral Roberts and were being groomed for the pastorate.
I am indeed a member of Temple of Deliverance ( for 30 years ).I can make no presumption as to our next pastor or when/if Bishop Patterson will retire from the pastorate. If Supt. Hawkins is chosen for that unenviable task,I would not hesitate to give him my full support and assistance.I believe the man has shown his mettle. Anyone stepping into the role of pastor following the founding pastor- and an illustrious one to boot – will have quite a job ahead of him; such a position cannot be taken lightly.
Our condolences to the family and friends of His Excellency,Walter Bogan; we are praying God’s peace, comfort and continuous blessings upon you.

me to put a wedding band on before I go to church,
that I may not lead any astray. And if I get weak it is a
reminder of the vow I took be Him. This man was sur-rounded by the top people in the cogic, and on a one
