House Passes Unborn Victims of Violence Act
The House has passed the Unborn Victims of Violence Act with 61% of the Representatives approving the bill.
bq.. _(CNSNews.com) – In a vote of 254-163, the House Thursday passed the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, a measure that would allow a defendant to be charged with two federal crimes when an unborn baby is injured or killed during an attack on the pregnant mother._
_”There are two victims in these kinds of attacks,” said Rep. Melissa Hart (R-Pa.), chief sponsor of the legislation. “That is so clear from the Laci and Conner Peterson case.”_
Other supporters of the bill praised its passing. “This is not a debate about life; about the most contentious issue of our time and our culture. This is about justice, this is about compassion, and this is about this Congress standing for what justice demands,” said Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.).
House Judiciary Committee Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. (R-Wisc.) said, “The Unborn Victims of Violence Act protects the right of a mother to choose to bring her wanted and loved child to term, safe from the violent hands of criminals who would brutally deny her that right.”
