What Distinguishes Christianity from Other Religions?

bq.. Christianity is unique among the religions of the world for several reasons.

First, unlike other religions, Christian is rooted in history and evidence. Jesus of Nazareth was born in Bethlehem in Judea during the reign of Caesar Augustus and was put to death by Pontius Pilate, a first century Roman governor. The testimony of his life, death, and resurrection is validated both by credible eyewitness testimony and by credible extra-biblical evidence as well. No other religion can legitimately claim this kind of support from history and evidence.

Furthermore, of all the influential religious leaders of the world (Buddha, Moses, Zoraster, Krishna, Lao Tzu, Muhammad, Baha’u’llah), only Jesus claimed to be God in human flesh (Mark 14:62). And this was not an empty boast. For through the historically verifiable fact of resurrection, Christ vindicated His claim to deity (Romans 1:4; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8). Other religions such as Buddhism and Islam, claim miracles in support of their faith; however, unlike Christianity, such miracles lack historical validation.

Finally, Christianity is unique in that it is a coherent belief structure. Some Christian doctrines may transcend comprehension, however, unlike the claims of other religions, they are never irrational or contradictory. Christianity is also unique in that it cogently accounts for the vast array of phenomena we encounter in everyday life: the human mind, laws of science, laws of logic, ethical norms, justice, love, meaning in life, the problem of evil and suffering, and truth. In other words, Christianity corresponds with the reality of our present condition.

  1. I heard it say that C.S. Lewis once walked into the middle of a discussion on this very question “What makes Christianity different from all other religions” and his response was: “That’s easy. Grace”

  2. That Is So True. Nice One, Bill.

  3. Grace is the first thing I think of when I consider what distinguishes Christianity. Another thing is the fact that it is based not on what Jesus did, but on who He was. If Jesus had done everything the same in life but had not been God, He would not have been able to save us.

Conversly if He had lived His entire life without ever speaking a word, but had died on the cross in the same manner, He still would have won our salvation.

It is the person of Christ, not His words, than saves us. When you consider any other religion, they are based on the words of a person, whether it be Buddha, Mohammed, etc.

  4. First, unlike other religions, Christian is rooted in history and evidence.

I find this offensive. Firstly, find me hard evidence, rather than hearsay, that he existed. I do not say You have unfounded faith, I’m simply saying there is no actual, real, solid, undisputable, material evidence. Just like any other religion.

Secondly, I am Muslim, and we believe we have evidence. The Koran was written in three days by an illiterate man. It’s all poetry, and is As long as, or longer than the bible. The Koran’s poetry has never been replicated in meaningful ways Eg. no-one can write like that. This was witnessed by many people, in a similar way to the 10 Commandments, witnessed by many, many Jews. I will not try and enforce my religion on you, I am simply saying this is an unfounded statement.

It is debatable whether he actually claimed to be god in flesh, It’s an assumption based on the bible, which was written 300 years later. We all know there are many contradictions in it. It is hearsay, good, solid guides to life but not the word of the same generation. The story was passed verbally for 4 generations, and altered in translation.

Actually, the distinguishing point about christianity is the constant miracles in everyday life that can only have one reason, physics and science that all lead to the same conclusion. God. But that isn’t all. We also see god in the way that believers act compared to non-believers. I would argue, as a Muslim, that those in the middle east are radicals. It is easy to use the Koran to justify wrong things. They are not Muslim.

Read the Koran; it says clearly that Jewish and Christians are ‘of the book’ and therefore are good people. It also declares we can not pro-actively declare war against others, or fight without necessity. It says not to change other’s religions, because God has made them the way they are.

But I digress. The point is quite simply that this article is one sided and does not include other religions who believe in one god.

  5. “Im simply saying there is no actual, real, solid, undisputable, material evidence. Just like any other religion.

Secondly, I am Muslim, and we believe we have evidence. ”

I’d like to clarify that I meant the first paragraph from your point of view. I believe we have evidence. I am not saying you have to. It is irrelevant to me, It’s God/Allah’s descision

  6. I would like to say that i’m simply argreeing with you because i think all of us should have a good loving life from Grace & Heaven.

And secondly…that i’m a White US American, that i am proud of who i am & what i believe that i can see what i can do to offer in my life for others around me.

I’d like to say that i believe in everything what god has said through Jesus christ & to what he has taught us to believe in ourselves.
