Washington pastor hopes to help teens accused of burning cross in front of his home
Pastor in Arlington, WA, wants to offer love and forgiveness to teens who burned a cross on his lawn.
bq.. SEATTLE —A pastor who awoke to find a cross ablaze in his family’s front yard said Sunday he hopes to speak with the teenagers accused of setting the fire to tell them they are forgiven.
Pastor Jason Martin, who is black, said he would like to talk to the boys to offer guidance, if they are willing to listen.
“We want to throw sticks and stones and cuss and all kinds of things when someone hurts us, but if we want to be good Christians, if we want to be a good community, I say send your enemy flowers,” Martin said.
Martin, 38, woke up Wednesday to find firefighters dousing a 3-foot-by-5-foot cross on the front lawn of his family’s home in Arlington, about 40 miles north of Seattle.
