‘Davey and Goliath’ making a return after 30 years

The return of “Davey and Goliath”

MOUNT VERNON Many adults who grew up between 1960 and 1975 will remember the stop-motion animated series featuring a little boy, Davey, and his talking dog, Goliath, that aired on Sunday mornings. After a 30-year hiatus, they are back.

According to a news release, issued by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Hallmark Channel will broadcast Davey and Goliaths Snowboard Christmas, a new one-hour television special, on Sunday at noon with an encore broadcast on Dec. 26 in the same time slot. The program is the first new Davey and Goliath production in 30 years.

The original series was created through funding from the United Lutheran Church in America, known today as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The mission was, and still is, to bring moral and religious faith-based values to a new generation of children.

Mark Wildermuth, pastor of the Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon, remembers watching the series as a young boy about Daveys age. I remember Davey always got into trouble and learned a lesson either from his parents or his pastor and sometimes even his dog, Goliath. The lessons were well taught and related to young kids, he said.
