Charismatic Pastor, Bishop Keith Butler, ‘Would be a Clarion Voice’ in U.S. Senate

“He would be a clarion voice in the United States Senate to keep America on the principles that our Founding Fathers gave us”—Traditional Values Coalition (TVC) President Lou Sheldon

A prominent charismatic pastor is considering a run for U.S. Senate in 2006. Bishop Keith Butler, pastor of one of Detroit’s largest churches, Word of Faith International Christian Center, has announced that he was launching an exploratory committee to see if he could drum up enough support for a campaign.

A longtime Republican, Butler, 49, said at the center of his platform would be the protection of marriage, religious liberty and national security. Butler, who won a seat on Detroit’s city council in 1989 and served a four-year term, said it would benefit the nation as a whole “to have a senator that protects life, that protects traditional family values and … understands also that it is important to take care of the poor.”

“Should I run, I will not be running as a black Republican,” Butler told “Charisma” magazine in the March issue, out now. The full story on Butler can be found in the magazine.

“I will be running as a Republican who believes deeply in protecting the family in our society, securing America, keeping her safe, keeping American jobs,” he added. “I will look to be a senator for all the people of Michigan and not just one segment of the population.”

  1. So Keith Butler would never use his position for personal gain. I guess that’ why he has a 1.3million dollar home and 2 jets. Just another slick hypocrite.

  2. Individuals are quick to use rhetoric without knowing the facts about topics poorly covered within the media. Coverage of Keith Butler’s support for charitable causes, use of resources to assist and support families throughout Metro-Detroit and the nation, and the reality about the use of the church assets for church approved and mandated purposes would be a far less interesting story – to those who only want to create pithy one-liners. Slick hypocrites are indeed a dime a dozen.

  3. Today’s history textbooks do not include the historical fact that ministers of the Gospel were our nations most influential leaders. Too many are deceived by the myth of “separation of church and state” without fully understanding the context in which Jefferson made the remark. The constitution’s primary source document was the Bible. Ours is the longest standing constitution ever. All the more reason for those who have demonstrated sound leadership in Christian ministry to rise to higher levels of influence in our nation. Judeo-Christian leaders, perhaps more than any other kind, understand original intent of the constitution, and can get our nation back on course. All the best to Reverend Keith Butler.

  4. Sorry for tuning in late.
it’s the first time I’ve seen this website. Hypocrite is a very unfounded word to apply to a man of such prestige in God’s eyes. i would advise that all critics do more research on keith butler. Find all the good things that Butler has to offer for the state of Michigan instead of “bumping your gums”. i’m not just talking to Democrats, but both Democrats and Republicans alike. thanx.
