COGIC Bishop Patterson has prostate cancer
Presiding Bishop G.E. Patterson, chief apostle of the Church of God in Christ, is battling prostate cancer.
Patterson addressed concerns about his health last week during the denomination’s “Founder’s Day” celebration. He acknowledged he had been given the diagnosis in 2003.“He was in good cheer, looked well and said he wanted to move forward with the ministry God has presented for him to do,” said Calvin Burns, editor of The Whole Truth, COGIC’s official magazine. “We’re all praying for our leader and that God will heal him.”
Patterson was unanimously re-elected to a four-year term as head of the denomination at last year’s annual convocation. Before the election, Patterson said if chosen, he would not run again in 2008.
COGIC was founded in the 1890s by Bishop Charles Harrison Mason. In 1907 he reorganized the church and established headquarters in Memphis, where convocations have been held every year since. The 98th annual convocation will run Nov. 7-15.
The Pentecostal denomination has become one of the largest Christian bodies in the world, with more than 6 million members across the United States and in 54 countries. More than 60,000 are expected at this year’s convocation.

I heard your message Feb 5 regarding the scripture text, “Why sit ye here until ye die?” It spoke to the situation in my life at this time- I have done little with my life since my husband passed away, six years ago- I need to get busy and do something purposeful with my life and I am praying to know just what that is-
