Live lingerie models have male shoppers ‘Spellbound’

Live lingerie models adorn the window in Spellbound, a retailer that sells intimate apparel in Augusta, Maine. Obviously, not everyone is as spellbound as the owner would hope.

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — In this town, window shopping is attracting a lot more guys than usual.

A lingerie store called Spellbound is grabbing attention with live models in the window. Some people have complained, but police say there is nothing illegal about the lingerie models.

“It’s tainting the wholesome businesses down here,” said Carrie Rossignol, co-owner of Video Game Exchange.

“I think it’s selfish, and I think it’s morally reprehensible.”

Another downtown merchant likes the idea, saying the models are attracting more potential customers to the area.

“It’s like a New York thing. It’s urban. It’s edgy,” said Stacy Gervais, owner of Stacy’s Hallmark Store and a founder of a downtown merchants group.

“We need a shtick — something that we do that attracts people and gets us remembered.”

  1. Ok,so why are you even adding this article to a site that is clearly spiritual in nature?

You don’t even give it any moral outrage. All you have the nerve to do is give it some spineless commentary and quote the new article.

In my view you are doing more to promote pornography than moral outrage.

Anyone can click on the tags at the bottom of the article and instantly go to porn sites.

    I don’t know… I don’t get it?

  2. What’s the big deal? Everybody wears underwear and everyone has a body. It’s no reason to get upset.

  3. sounds like a very healthy excercise in personal revelation , being submissive to the body and lingerie only leads to frustration and you know that leads to war , as in Rumsfeld/ cheney. the more modern cities today have professional massage parlours that are very classy and cater to the needs of gentlemen without repression . Amsterdamn in Maine it isn’t yet . But after the corporations close down all the jobs to overseas and plywood goes up downdown the Democrats under drug free powers such as Soros who knows ?

  4. One question to all here. If you have a significant other (wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, husband) and you see them in lingerie, is there not an immediate response to your emotional state? Im pretty sure when i see a woman in lingerie, im thinking, “wow..hey i wear underwear too!” to say such is chilidish, and definitely untrue. God has designed us all with a desire for the opposite sex, and certain things trigger an increase in that desire. But the Bible also says a thing or 2 about adultery…not only physically, but in your heart, thoughts, and eyes. The first look isnt by choice..usually…but the ones following are. You wanna live by the flesh and succumb to it’s leading, fine…but dont expect to live forever.
Putting a store in a public place makes me sick, not only because its real people instead of mannequins, but that anyone, at anytime, from any age, can see this. Its not the world i want my kids growing up in…and if you think you have any morals at all….i ask you to ask that question about your kids. YOU may be able to tolerate…but would you poison your children’s mind with it so readily and boldly? And as God’s children…what do you think He would say…as if He already hasnt clearly stated it in His Word.

  6. WILL AUGUSTA BECOME THE TIMES SQUARE OF MAINE?

At least one registered sex offender supports the goings on at Spellbound – do you?

One of the first people to support the public display of lewdness at Spellbound was a convicted sex offender living in Augusta. He wrote a letter to the Kennebec Journal, stating that the worldwide publicity for the lingerie store - in Germany, England, in Thailand, in Vietnam, Malaysia and in France - would be “good for tourism.” This same sex offender called on the public to oppose any protest against the store. The convicted sex offender said, “People need to stand together,” because that is “real power.”

    But how about you?

What do YOU think about the public display of nudity at Spellbound?

Is it just innocent fun? Harmless entertainment?

A legitimate way to advertise to increase sales?

Or perhaps you agree with the Kennebec Journal that this is just what Maine’s capital city needs – a bit of “NEW YORK to spice up the downtown area”– even though this sort of behavior is criminal in New York City!

The Bible instructs us to “flee from sexual immorality” and that we should “..honor God with our body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18,20)

We can choose to do nothing, and hope that it will just go away…
Or we can say “No” to this brand of indecency.

Please join fellow local, concerned Christians, evangelicals, and social conservatives for a peaceful, prayerful vigil in front of the Spellbound store on Water Street in Augusta on Saturday, February 11th from 10:30am to 5:00pm.

This prayer vigil will consist of equal parts Christian compassion (to change the hearts of those involved) and public condemnation (of the actions of the store owner and employees) will be led by Christians Lovingly Advocating Decency (or C.L.A.D., for short). C.L.A.D. is a group of concerned men and women who still believe in the concepts of morality, prudence, modesty, and community standards.

We agree with St. Paul’s teaching in the Bible that women should, “…dress modestly, with decency and propriety…” (1 Timothy 2:9)

  7. Wow I can’t believe I what I just read! To think that public condemnation also includes a call to one of the models and harrassing her to the point of striking fear in someone for their welfare. I’ll tell you what thats called, “Persecution.” No man can ever judge another man and be absolutely right. You all should really let GOD make the judgements. None of you have any right to usurp anothers’ freedoms because your extremists views on the world. I’ll bet that most of you are guilty of perpetuating the injustices occuring from America bullying the world. Wether its gas/oil, support for withholding food and medical supplies to war torn countries that we illegally invaded, or supporting bills that are destroying the freedoms in this country. And you think a little skin in a window shop is immoral? How about children dying from malnutrition and lack of water or medical supplies while you and your country stands by to drop another 2000 lb bomb on another city block of civilians to kill a few SUSPECTED terrorists? Please consider that your irresponsiblilty and ignorance to these situations have a negative and immoral effect on the world, and that is certainly not godly to any degree to consent to that.

And another thing… God has given everyone a will and that will, will always be challenged forevermore. A woman standing in a window shop modelling underwear is not to blame for your mischeivious thoughts, you are. And if you take that away, I guaruntee that another “challenge” will present itself and will continue to present itself until you rise to the challenge and stand up for yourself and deal with your emotions on an individual basis. You all just listen to the words of Jesus like you believe and yet you don’t live like him. The whole point isn’t seeking forgiveness for your sins, its walking as “he” would walk. In other words your heart has a voice and you should listen to it, just as Jesus listened to his heart. Anything less is a superficial attempt at claiming god is in your life.
