Microsoft unwraps 'Longhorn' operating system

Microsoft unwraps 'Longhorn' operating system. Big news from CNN Money, today.

Here is the lead in to the story.

Microsoft Corp. Monday gave its most detailed look yet at the next version of Windows, code-named "Longhorn," which promises new methods of storing files, tighter links to the Internet, greater security, and fewer annoying reboots.

Here is the real meat and potatoes of "Longhorn"

The company also talked about the four key "buckets" it sees comprising Longhorn: fundamentals like security and scalability; new presentation technology that includes a rebuilding of Windows' graphics system; a new file storage system called WinFS that makes heavy use of XML, or extensible markup language, data; and new Web services and communications technology.

Well...

Installing Gallery at Dreamhost

While attempting to install the PHP application, Gallery, a full featured open-source photo album, I ran into several issues with my hosting company, Dreamhost.

Searching around the web for support, I was blessed enough to run into the notes of a Gallery on Dreamhost, forerunner, who not only installed the app, but gave excellent step-by-step notes for others to follow. [Installing Gallery at DreamHost] is a must read for those interested in, well, installing Gallery at Dreamhost.

On This Day in History

While looking for some "on this day" stuff to add to Madison's non-existent baby book, I stumbled across a couple of pretty good sites, one is the dMarie Time Capsule, the second is the History Channel's This Day in History. The combined information from these resources results in a treasure trove of "on this day" trivia.

Star Wars Episode III - Final Fight Sequence Info

Richard C. Wilson, Jr's Episode III update by way of www.darkhorizons.com

-------------------------

Star Wars: Episode III: LatinoReview talked with Hayden Christensen for his upcoming film "Shattered Glass" and he commented on the final prequel which he wrapped filming the other month - "It still has to reach out to a specific audience, but it will be substantially darker than the previous films. I will say, on the record, the final fight sequence in this film will, in my opinion, and not having seen any of it cut together, should surpass any fight sequence that has been put on film so far. It’s the longest, I can’t give you specifics, but it is quite the bad-assed fight scene. Nick Gilliard has done an amazing job instilling an arc of story in the fight. It justifies, because you know Anakin and Obi-Wan have it out, but Anakin is the chosen one-he is supposed to be the best. But he comes out on the shorter end of the stick in the fight. It justifies it really nicely as the fight progresses". Thanks to 'Kellvin'.

Adding a DHTML Degradable Tabbed Panel

Looking for a way to add DHTML Tabs to your page, while not isolating any of the major browsers?

While looking to make some changes to an internal site at the office, we decided that a tabbed panel was the best navigational approach to displaying this content.

Macromedia Flash has components that will simplify this process, but we did not want to take the plugin route to this page.

After doing a little search on Google, this tabbed system came to the light (DHTML Kitchen: Tabs.) I'm smelling what they are cooking...

Comcast raises broadband speed bar

Yeah. One day I will have more even more bandwidth. That's cool because DSL did NOT work for me. My cable modem rocks!

Still surfing c|net and this article caught my eye: Comcast raises broadband speed bar.

Comcast is doubling the transfer speed of its broadband service, another move in the cable industry's campaign to fend off phone companies in the hunt for high-speed Internet customers.

The Philadelphia-based cable company said on Thursday it will boost its maximum download speed of its Comcast Online service from 1.5 megabits per second (mbps) to 3mbps, at no additional charge to customers. It said it will introduce the increases in 14 U.S. markets at first, but added that the "majority" of its broadband subscribers nationwide will be upgraded by the end of the year.

If you have ever had to do client work, you know that the client's site usually gets more attention than you own. So their home page is still under development, but you can go a peek to see the ideas that they are working on.
